The Texans placed running back Samkon Gado on waivers today.

To replace Gado, they've moved practice squad running back Joe Echemandu to the active roster.

Gado came to the Texans last year in a trade for Vernand Morency. He rushed for 217 yards last season. This season, he had 18 carries for 46 yards, a 2.6-yard average per carry. He also had eight catches for 59 yards and a touchdown.

Echemandu, whose last team was Oakland, signed with the Texans earlier this month and was placed on the practice squad. He was a seventh-round pick by Cleveland who signed with the Raiders after being waived by the Browns.

I love Samkon Gado. Alot of it has to do with going to the same college (Liberty University) but the man plays with incredible heart. I'm glad he's gone from the Texans. I think he could have done well if he got his shot but it appeared they were never gonna give it to him.

I would like to see a team go after him and give him a shot. I think he can still be a good player in the NFL.

It would also make me happy seeing that I refuse to drop him from my dynasty team.....

i could see bucs or miami...

interesting player if he lands in the exact right position... a place where there is no other viable rb option.

seems like miami would be a good fit.

if it'll help speed benson's departure from chicago, bring him here. he's a small but physical back, and he seemed to play well in colder weather up in green bay a couple years back. imagine that, a rb in chicago that can actually average over 4 yards per carry.

This is curious considering he's actually looked better than Ron Dayne. I was about to drop Dayne in one of my deeper leagues but now I'm not so sure.

I have no idea what the Texans plans are for Echemandu. He's a pretty active special teams player, on both coverage and kick returning, so he may wind up on the active roster for games.

I find it hard to believe that he would not be able to beat out Ron Dayne for carries, but again, I know little about the Texans organization. I can't imagine that he'd seriously challenge Ahman Green for the starting role, so his value has to be pretty limited, given that the Houston running game doesn't generate much fantasy action, anyway.

Didn't I see a special about football being a fill-in before he went to med school? Or am I making that up?
No, you're not making that up. I think he also spent a summer volunteering at an African hospital, or something like that. Sounds as thought he is a better person than a football player.

Paging Cool Nerd, Paging Cool Nerd!

What can we expect from ole' Joe Echemandu?

I don't know a ton about him as a player, but he is basically going to replace Gado as the third RB. Houston has been only activating two RBs on Sundays, because in a pinch Jameel Cook can play RB (I am serious). Whether it has been Dayne or Gado (now Joe E.) has been because of match-ups. My understaning is the Joe E. is a better special teamer than either guy, so he may win an active for that reason. Houston's running game has been horrible, and until I see differently i am not too excited about anyone.

One of the funniest things I ever read was the thread where everyone kept making up "Bill Brasky" and "Chuck Norris" quotes with Gado's name in them.

Sam Gado did 3 tours in 'Nam...... I was in Corpus Christi on business a month ago. I had this eight foot tall Asian waiter, which made me curious. I asked him his name. Sure enough it's Ho Tran Gado!

:lmao: to the best name in fantasy football.
Since Harry Colon.
Taco Wallace has to be in the running.
If Harry Colon and Taco Wallace ever pound out a kid... Be that as it may...

Gado still has something left for the league - seems like given the injuries so far this year he'll land somewhere. Miami?
Harry Taco? Taco Colon is what you get when you make too many late night Del Taco runs.

:goodposting: There is no chin behind Sam Gado's chinstrap. There is only another fist.

Best Gado quote on this board -

Samkon Gado once killed a man with his bare hands just to watch him die.

I still smile every time I think of it...

While I'm not Coolnerd, this is what I know.Basically he has an injury history in HS and College which hurt his stock alot.Coming out of HS he was a member of the Super Prep All-Star West team as the No. 60 overall prospect and the Prep Star All-America team as the No. 10 running back prospect in the West.In College at Cal, he was recruited as a RB but was converted WR for a season (good hands) becasue of injuries ot the WR core. He finished his injury riddled career at Cal with306 carries for 1,434 yards and 16 TDs and 33 receptions for 264 yards and 2 TDs.This pre-season running behind the Raiders 3rd/4th quarter O line he had 39 carries for 168 yards an avg of 4.3 per. He also had 3 rec for 32 yards.I think he has the perfect RB mold at 5'10 225, he runs hard, not much juke but lowers his shoulder for extra yards. His style should fit the 1 cut run scheme well.Edit - Hes also cousins with Nnamdi Asomugha , the solid CB for the Raiders. I love bloodlines

Fox News in Houston just mentioned the Gado was picked up on waivers by Miami.

:goodposting: TYAnyone in a deep dynasty league grabbing Joe off the WW? Is he worth a shot for a roster spot.Ahman has been brutal  and having trouble staying on the field.Dayne can't stay healthy and has been ineffective this yearGado cutNow he's bumped off the practice squad... hmmmmm Maybe there's a scenario where (likely due to injury, etc.) Joe gets a shot and possibly does something w/ it?Again, DEEP dynasty inquiry here.
