Peyton Manning and the Colts (1 Viewer)

I think they rest injured players for certain (so, don't expect to see Brock, Mathis, Bethea, Diem, Utecht - and I wouldn't be surprised if Sanders took two weeks off). One question is whether they play Marvin to get him some game-time reps or not. If not, I'd expect Manning to play a half or less next week.

Too early to start resting players. they are going to have a bye first week of the playoffs. So, i expect him to play most of next week's game.

Concur. He plays most of week 16, and probably plays one series in week 17. I own him, and we have a week 17 championship game, so I did a little research on Manning when the Colts had a first-round bye in the past. Twice in the past four years (if my memory serves), he has played only one series before giving way to Sorgi.

One question I have. When Indy was killing Baltimore last week, Sorgi came in early in the 3rd Q. I seem to recall Al Michaels saying something to the effect of "this is by far the earliest Sorgi has entered a game." Well, that's simply not true, as I outlined above. Either that or I heard his quote completely wrong.

When you mention the 2 times in the last four years you are talking about in week 17 only playing a series not 16 right?

or do they start resting starters and i need to hit the waiver wire immediately?
BTW, you don't mention whether you have a W17 championship game or not.If you do, honestly, Sorgi isn't a terrible pickup. He's a safer bet to hang some numbers than a bunch of regular QBs out there. They'll be at home in the dome vs. Tennessee. Without Addai (presumably), and perhaps without some O-line starters, there's no way they'll be able to run on Haynesworth and the Titans. And they're going to want to win the game... that won't change just because their personnel does. That adds up to Moore letting the kid air it out and have some fun, IMO.

We have week 16 championship so just need to squeeze one more week out of him. Also have Gonzalez but i bet he plays thru the season being a rook and they rest Wayne.

I agree that, due to the sub-standard performance today, the regulars on offense play most of the game or until it gets extremely one-sided. The Colts have experienced the down side of resting guys too much in previous years. They will want to stay as sharp as possible, while taking advantage of the chance to get some guys healthy.

BTW, I think the cross-country trip has to factor into things vs. Raiders, along with guys out with injuries.

I stand corrected about one thing: In 2005, after starting 13-1, the Colts had a 1st-round bye wrapped up prior to week 16, as they do right now. In week 16, Manning threw only 12 passes before coming out. The following week, he threw 2 passes before leaving the game.

See for yourself -- scroll down to the '05 season

HOWEVER, that was the year they lost to the Steelers in the playoffs, so maybe their theory on resting players has changed.

:jawdrop:

Gonzelez will play Also expect Wayne to play except he may lose snaps to Harrison week 17. They simply are out of receiver bodies. Today they had 3 WR and 3 TE active then Utecht got hurt. they have so many injuries overall no real options to bring up more than emergency bodies.

I'd guess they treat it like it's the 3rd pre-season game. Meaning, he plays into the 3rd Q then sits. Then week 17 is like the last pre-season game. Meaning, he plays a series or 2 and then sits.

I'd guess Harrison doesn't play until the playoffs. Most of both sides of the ball will sit just like the pre-season scenarios I mentioned above.

From Rotowire:

anning was 22-of-39 for 276 yards passing with a touchdown and interception in Sunday's win over Oakland.

Spin: The Indy offense uncharacteristically struggled most of the game, especially in the red zone. With Indianapolis clinching the AFC South and No. 2 seed in the playoffs and unable to improve to the top seed, there's very little reason for the Colts to play their starters a full game the next two weeks. Expect Manning to play perhaps two quarters each of the next two games as a result.

[breaking News] RotoWire | Sun, December 16

This is not good news. I may have to sit Peyton for Bulger in next week in my finals. I can't afford just 2 qtrs. Should I do it?

You do realize that Rotowire was clearly speculating, don't you?

They know how Dungy rolls. When he has things locked up to where he cant move up or down in the playoff seeding he will sit his players.

Week 16 the only reason I see Dungy resting his starters are if they are up big against Hou...which is possible. But by that time you hope that the reason they are killing Hou is because your Indy players did well.

Week 17 I think they play at least 3 qtrs. If Dungy ever learns from the past, I remember last year when the playoffs came his players were rusty and out of sync because they got too much rest.

The Colts came out flat after resting their guys for almost a month before the Steelers came in 05/06 and lost. They won't make the same mistake again. I would expect the first stringers to play at least 2/3 of the game next week and would not bench Manning, Wayne, Gonzalez, Addai - there's a chance that Keith could be a decent desperation play because the Colts have shown a tendency to preserve Addai when they can, but Houston plays with a lot of pride and should keep the game competitive.

The Colts are in the same position as a number of teams with little to nothing to play for the final two weeks. My guess is those teams are going to rest anyone remotely dinged up, limit starting RB carries, and probably at least play week 17 like week 3 of the pre-season and possibly week 16 as well.

It's gonna kill me unless I know. I've got Manning and Addai. My opponent's got Carson Palmer and LT. If either of my guys take off a half, I'm dead.

I've also got Keith on my bench, but I can't start him over Addai... right??

The good news for you is the only thing the Chargers have to play for is the 3rd or 4th seed which will only matter if the Colts and Pats both lose in round 2 of the playoffs so in another words not much. I'll be a little surpised if the Chargers don't limit LT's touches in the next two weeks. I'd consider starting Kieth over Addai. Addai, IMO, is the number one player on the Colts team I think they will want to rest.

You would think the Chargers would want the three seed, so as to avoid the Jags in the first round. That said, with Norv you never know. As for Addai, I fully expect him to royally screw some teams over this week.:LTandAddaiOwner:

Being a longtime Colts fan and owner of every big-name offensive starter on the Colts in one league or another, I'm pretty sure I know how this will play out.

If you have Colts players on your roster going into your Week 16 league championship game, you should look for alternative options, starting yesterday.

I haven't made the championship game yet...(up 21, my opponent still has Taylor and Bear Def.) but if I do make it, I am worried about playing Addai. He did jack#### yesterday and he'll score less if only playing for a half. Might have to go MBIII and Maroney

The Chargers are just starting to get on a roll and I don't see LT wanting to take his foot off the pedal to rest unless he's injured.

I had not considered the Jags angle. I expect the Jags will clinch a playoff spot next week with a win at home against the Raiders and than have nothing to play for in week 17. I wonder if the Browns and Steelers win out the Jags rest starters and lose in week 17 who would be the higher seed, the Browns or Jags? Both would be 8-4 in the AFC.

The danger is Addai could always do something like he did against the Ravens-- 3 TDs in a little over a quarter. It sucks. I hate Tony Dungy. I wish they'd had to play a legitimate team in the Super Bowl last year. No way should that guy have a title.

No kidding. That's just moronic...Dungy=Class

You could be the only person on the planet

Addai is the one to really be concerned about. I've got a feeling he's going to kill some fantasy teams in Week 16.
I am already planning to start Fred Taylor (against Oak) in place of Addai. My guess is that they will give Addai the most rest of all the big names since he takes the most pounding and has shown to be slightly injured already this year.

Dungy was on the Opening Drive on Sirius this morning. I'm paraphrasing here:

They want to win the last two games because they are against division opponents, and he doesn't want them to start thinking Indy is vulnerable for the purposes of the coming seasons. But he also said they'd be smart about it and would not play "at-risk" players. I took that to mean that anyone who has even the slightest injury will not play. He was not specific about Manning's playing time.

This blows.

"Colts coach Tony Dungy confirmed Monday that he won't rest his starters in Week 16 against the Texans.

An undefeated Colts team in 2005 sat starters in Weeks 16 and 17 and came out flat against Pittsburgh in the playoffs. "A month is a long time," Dungy said, referring to the time before Indianapolis would play its next game with a first-round bye already in hand. The Colts' victory over Oakland Sunday assured them of the No. 2 seed in the AFC."

 Starting Addai without question. Dungy is usually very honest about these things. Hopefully he plays a full 3 qtrs at least.

Sorry for the nitpick, but is "not resting the starters" the same as them playing a full game?

thats what i'm wondering. Guess i have to decide if 4 quarters of Bulger/Sage/Pennington is any better than 2-3 quarters of Manning. No big deal, only $1600 on the line.

You have to remember that he is talking about completely benching them all together. If they go in the game, and play a quarter or two... then they have got their reps in, and don't need to finish out the entire game. Especially the way that the Colts are getting killed with injuries... I don't see them keeping their stars in all game. I can see the PATS keeping their stars in, because they are going for the undefeated record, and Brady is going for his records... and trust me, they mean something.

this is whats its gonna come down to. whether or not 2/3 of a game from manning is better than the guy we have sitting behind him. playing against brady it'd be nice to see manning go all 4. if it seems like he's gonna play only a half, it may be garrard for me. this does indeed suck.

I cant open the link here at work from the Indy Star but I couldve sworn Dungy said he was gonna play it like a normal game.

Here it is......
IndyStar.com Sports Colts 4:16 PM December 17, 2007 Dungy: No break for Colts' starters Multimedia By Mark Alesiamark.alesia@indystar.com Indianapolis Colts coach Tony Dungy said Monday he plans to use his players "like we normally would" in Sunday's game against Houston. The Colts' victory at Oakland on Sunday assured them of the No. 2 seed and a first-round bye in the AFC playoffs no matter what happens in their final two regular-season games, against Houston and Tennessee, both at the RCA Dome. That raised the question of whether the Colts would rest their starters, but Dungy said the team will try to keep an edge without sustaining more injuries. Indy's first playoff game will be Jan. 12 or 13."A month is a long time," Dungy said.Read tomorrow's Indianapolis Star for more details about this story.

got this from my Yahoo player page. via rotowire i believe

Dec 17 Manning is campaigning to get significant playing time the next two weeks even with Indianapolis' playoff position set as the No. 2 seed. "This is not the time to sit back," Manning told the Indianapolis Star Tribune. "This is the time to keep going, in my opinion. I've already told (quarterbacks coach) Jim Caldwell. I need more time with these new players."

This is very important. Manning is practically the OC for this team. If he wants a lot of time to work with the new guys, then he's going to get it. I'm a biscuit away from inserting Warner instead of Manning, but this may keep it with Manning...

I picked up Warner a few weeks ago as a "just in case" QB. I do like that Manning is saying they still need work.....what to do what to do. I have Wayne too. Maybe I start Warner and Curtis over Manning and Wayne this week.

I just don't see them playing the whole game, or playing real hard.

and neither had great fantasy days when they played the Texans in week 3.

Unfortunately I think that this has no real positive effect on Addai staying in for the whole game. I am getting more and more worried that he'll split the first half with Keith and then barely/if at all play the second half.

From Rotoworld....Another quote:

The Colts have nothing left to play for after clinching the No. 2 seed in the AFC Sunday and the Patriots locked into the No. 1 seed, but want to keep momentum on their side. "We've got two games, then a bye," Dungy said. "I don't think it will be wholesale resting everybody."

So he is saying that he doesn't think he will be resting EVERYONE.

I notice he uses the word THINK. He doesn't think. Thats sounds to me like he's not entirely certain yet about who's gonna play and how long they will play.
