Are the Lions seriously going with Tatum Bell as their RB? (1 Viewer)

Detroit may need to pass lots this year too since they did not land a decent RB in the draft.

Word is Alexander may land there - short term fix, but major problem I think.

there's still 5 more rounds of the draft. even undrafted RBs have emerged as viable contributors in recent years.

With only Tater and Calhoun rostered they need a big back. Alexander fits and there are several rookies still around. KSmith, Choice as mentioned. They could take Charles and have 3 similar guys who could share the load?

Possibles to land in DET (some maybe to start, but at least to help) --

Kevin Smith -3rd round

Jamaal Charles - 3rd round

Tashard Choice - 4th? round

Free agents:

Ron Dayne

SAlex

Mooooooooooooosa Smith

Michael Pittman

Soon to be free agents:

Lamont Jordan

Najeh Davenport

Ryan Moats

Dominic Rhodes?

Kenton Keith?

Vernand Morency?

The Lions entered this draft with like six gaping holes. Right tackle and linebacker were arguably bigger needs than running back, and they still need a lot more help in the front seven.

RB is probably priority #1 at this point so I'd imagine they will pick one soon and/or sign a free agent.

On another thread somebody said they heard a report the Lions offered the Raiders a 3rd plus for M. Bush.

That would be a great move for both teams.

Kevin Smith and Tashard Choice are still out there. Both of those guys could come in and compete for PT right away. Ditto Jamaal Charles.

I don't know who, what when where or how...........but the Lions as bad as they are, will not enter the season with Tatum Bell as their starting RB unless someone injures thereself in preseason.

Someobody will be signed or traded for. Tatum Bell is horrible.

Shaun Alexander.
This was mentioned as a possibility on Detroit sports talk today. And they were serious.
I don't think it's a bad option for a year. You can pick up a RB in the draft pretty easy. Let's face it, the Lions aren't winning squat this year. So signing a RB with a proven name for 1 year won't hurt anymore than the 10 losses they're going to get anyway.

I don't know if this guy will be drafted, but if I were the Lions I would take a close look at Chauncey Washington late.

The Lions have so many problems, but at the top of the list is the fact that there is very little elite talent on this roster. Of course we all know that's Millen's fault, not Tatum Bell. But really, what is the identity of this team? They don't have anything to build around and they continue to draft poorly. The best players are WR. Is it really possible to build a franchise around WR, especially with a journeyman QB like Kitna? Probably not. You need a good QB or a strong running game or a rockstar defense. You also need a good GM. And the Lions have none of that.

This is spot on. Although I'm a Lions sympathizer due to family, friends, and the city this franchise is riddled with holes and has been for my entire life. The ironic thing to me is that they drafted four WRs with top ten picks and then were trying to move Roy Williams this week. That's like having four girlfriends and getting them all pregnant at the same time and thinking it was a good idea until you figure out you have to pay child support for all four and you probably won't be getting much sex from at least three of them from this point forward. Let's call it the Millen/Portis theorem to successful family building.

I don't know abou this post DD.....you enjoyed time at Tiger Stadium tonight too much!

If there is a God in heaven, the same one who allowed/caused KJ, Ronnie Brown and so many of my stars to get hurt, please, please let M. Bush go to Detroit and start.

Running back is the least of the Lions problems. They need help on both lines and their entire defense. Having a great running back means nothing if you can't open holes for him. And having a great running back means nothing if your defense consistently gives up early points causing the offense to play catch up.

Maybe not drafting another RB is just a ploy to motivate him.
They are going to sign UFA Mike Anderson and start him on day one as a ploy to motivate him and as an attempt to make it 2005 again.

:pickle: All I know is the Lions are a microcosm for the City of Detroit, Ford Motor Company and probably the entire Michigan economy as well. So many problems for so long and so little to build hope around. Poor leadership, poor execution, and basically just plain poor. They are the perfect franchise to represent this area. If I was running the Lions, I would focus on building a rockstar defense ala the 2000 Ravens. The Lions have never had a great QB and probably never will. Turn the offense into a run oriented, smashmouth team and build a heavy hitting D that strikes fear into the heart of opposing teams. In the NFC North, this is a team that would make the playoffs most years. But Millen has failed to give this team any identity and continually proves to be a poor evaluator of talent. He's way below 50% for first round picks and almost 0% in every other round. There is not one other NFL team that would even entertain the idea of hiring Millen, unless it was for a concession stand manager. At least Isaiah Thomas had jobs with muliple teams, as bad as he was. Millen is by far the worst GM in any sport on the planet.
