MJD vs. Jamal Lewis (1 Viewer)

Footballguy
if the mods see this as a WDID thread and move it to the ACF, so be it. but, i'm hoping to get a good discussion between the two.

they are both playing on playoff contenders

JAX is a run first offense, but MJD shares carries with Fred Taylor. MJD is the goalline guy however and has the potential to break one from anywhere on the field.

CLEV is a potent offense and has a great OLine. Jamal has been FF mediocre most of his career except for his 2000 yard season and last year. He's their only option in the running game on a team that has many weapons (Braylon, Winslow) but a tough AFC schedule.

i see the two in the same tier, in a redraft (ADP 25 and 26), likely to be your RB#2, who to pull the trigger with.

Moot question.MJD won't be there at #25. Jamal probably won't be either.
it's not a question if they're there at 25, but in the middle of round 2, who would you take as your RB#2 or RB#1 if you went brady/moss...

I tend to overvalue the "workload effect" as much as anyone, meaning I pretty much always take the workhorse over the productive timeshare guy...

And even I'd take MJD first.

Lewis. I don't like the guy who gets 10 carries a game and expects to produce. Gimme the guy who may get 20-25 carries each game...odds are better he'll put up the numbers.

Couldn't agree more. There were too many '4's on MJD's scorecard to take him over an unquestioned, full-time starter in a strong offense. In PPR the case is stronger for MJD, but Lewis still outscored him by a significant margin last year.

even with Lewis sitting out tomorrow with a hammy pull?

PPR: MJD without a doubt, imo

non-PPR: jamal (even though i think MJD will score a few more points, jamal's will be much more consistent in that format)

in general, i don't trust jamal at all this year

I don't get the MJD love, frankly..a part time player who couldn't beat out Fred Taylor and now has Greg Jones to deal with..why is everyone so high on MJD, his situation has worsened since last season with Jones coming back.

now the carries will be split up among 3 RBs...so just how is it that MJD is going to do better than last season?!

I don't get it..

easily one of the most over-rated guys in FF

Lewis is guaranteed 25-30 carries/gm...why would you take a part time guy over a full time player who is the centerpiece of his team's offense...

1 - You're overrating Jones

2 - Check his recep's vs Lewis

I'm not wild about either frankly but when you get to RB2's they all have issues....

MJD almost ruined my season.

Unless Fred Taylor goes down, prepare for 2 TD games followed by 3 stinkers if you draft Mo-Jo.

If you are talking redraft, to me Lewis is the obvious choice, realizing this goes against the FBG rankings. Unless Taylor goes down (which he has not been Fragile Fred for quite some time now) I see MJD as the best COP back in the league.

MJD finished 13th among RBs in my league last year and I feel that it may have actually been a down year for him for what was expected. I'll take a gamble on that being his floor with my 2nd round pick with the upside possibly being a top 5 finish if he was to surpass Taylor in any way.

So you are guaranteeing that Lewis will have 400-480 carries this year? Also, you think Greg Jones is a threat to MJD's touches? He is nowehere near the talent MJD is. You do know MJD finished 8th and 13th in fantasy points in his first two years, right? That was with only 200 touches in each season, his workload can only go up. Look for him to go over 250 touches this year, and at least maintain his points per game average.

I think MJD will inherit the feature back role this year. Fred Taylor is 32. Candles burn brighest right before they expire and that is what I sensed from Taylor last year.

Jamal Lewis got injured after his first carry against the Pats and then missed the next game and was used sparingly for two more games. Only missed one game on the books but it was more like he missed three and a half games but still came within 37 yards of Adrian Peterson's run yardage total and rushed for the most yards by any Brown since Leroy Kelly back in 1968, yup even more than Kevin Mack or Ernest Byner or Mike or Greg Pruit in their prime. Lewis isn't as old as many seem to assume, he will only turn 29 in the next few days. Also he one entire year and missed significant time for a large portion of another year. His mega-carry season was a few years back. He came into camp in phenominal condition and reportedly is down 10 lbs. Considering he was/is listed at 245lbs his BMI was really high at that weight. I like the weight drop and he is 'reportedly' faster. He was used more in the passing game than I imagined last year. This is the second year of the Browns OC, Rob Chudzinski, so I think he should do even better now that he was able to adjust his playbook to suit Derek Anderson and the rest of his weapons. Don't forget last year he was in his first year as an OC and had Charlie Frye as his starting QB. WR Braylon Edwards had never done anything with Frye as his QB so he blew up last year. Also the Browns O-line gelled quicker than anyone expected.

Jam won't be sharing but I anticipate that MJD will get substantially more carries this year as Fred Taylor does a quick fade into the background.

I just adjusted my RB rankings, non-PPR and this is where I have both MJD and Jamal Lewis listed, the upgraded listing is at the latter entries.

The updated list is here for dynasty, none PPR.

... I was looking for feedback and hoping for a decent take or two as I try to tweak this updated list.

Lewis had 4 games with 25+ carries in 2007and only 1 in 2006 and 1 in 2005.Those numbers are a far cry from a guarantee. Why toss out a stat that's easlily shown to be inaccurate?
