Seems like I've got some decent value at QB and WR, while my RBs are a bit more boom/bust. I've been rethinking Matt Jones in the seventh because I have a long list of WRs I'm interested in. I really like the Forte/Calvin/Dallas/Bryant/Warner core.It really hard not to use 2008 PPG as a draft guide.

Got some time, so may as well do an early assessment ...

Philip Rivers, QB3, San Diego (3:14)

SD looks like they have moved fully to a more pass oriented offence, so Rivers is a great safe pick that should put up consistent points. I almost nabbed a backup in round 9, but I talked myslef out of it.

Thomas Jones, RB16, New York Jets (2.03)

Darren McFadden, RB23, Oakland (4:03)

Lendale White, RB27, Tennessee (5:14)

Jones should continue to put up decent numbers, although he worries me a little. I love McFadden in the 4th and White at the end of the 5th. Solid, not spectacular, but some upside with McFadden.

Larry Fitzgerald, WR1 Arizona (1:14)

Torry Holt, WR36, St. Louis (6:03)

Tedd Ginn Jr., WR48, Miami (7:14)

Greg Camarillo, WR, Miami (9:14)

Fitz is a beast and the best WR in the game. Holt can't do any worse than this year, even if he gets turfed to another team. The combo og Ginn and Camarillo is pretty solid for a 7th and 9th investment.

Visanthe Shiancoe, TE14, Minnesota (8:03)

Not totally sold on him, but the value was pretty good in the 8th.

Not the team I wanted to put together, but I hated the 1.16 pick. I felt like I was forced into taking Barber - not that that's neceesarily a bad thing - and there really wasn't anyone I was dying to get in the second round. Considered taking Wayne instead of Gates, but that's about it. I've played the waiting game for tight ends so many times before in these leagues that I decided to take a crack at building a team around a stud TE. I'm not sold on Dallas' passing offense with the possibility of Owens being gone, which is why I liked Barber but was nervous about Witten. Look at Witten's numbers pre and post Owens, and there's a pretty huge spike. I also didn't want to pair up two guys from the same team. Gonzo's getting older, which left me with Gates as my #1 TE at this early stage in the offseason. I used my last pick on a backup TE who is actually a backup on his team, but used to be good - Crumpler. He's got the potential to earn the #1 job, especially depending on what the Titans do at QB in the offseason. Plus the Titans' health at TE always seems to be in question because they use them so much in the run game.

After watching the early receiver run, I spent four of my next five picks on WRs. All of those guys can put up points in bunches and disappear for games at a time. I'm just hoping to get fairly consistent play from them - that, and that none of them retire in the offseason. Clayton is a late round flier - Bryant may not stay, Hilliard and Galloway are ancient and coming off injury, and Clayton showed a couple flashes at the end of the season. Maybe he bounces back with Gruden gone.

Carson Palmer is a boom/bust pick at QB. My track record of boom/bust picks at QB in these WSLs is absolutely terrible. But if he booms, he makes that position a strength. Same with Leinart. It's entirely possible I have three quarterbacks, or none, but I like their scoring potential, especially on weeks when Evans blows up.

I think Washington will continue to get more playing time on a team that's going to need help from their backs as they likely transition at quarterback. He's the sparkplug for that offense and should get some points. The only reason Maroney, a potential starting running back, was available this late in the draft is because the Pats have so many backs and may even grab a new one. At the 9th/10th turn, he's a reasonable risk to take. If the Pats go into the seaon with the Morris/Maroney/Jordan combo at the head of the pack, which is admittedly far from certain, the three of them make a cheap starting RB. If they get someone else, or Faulk continues to play a big role, or the offense stutters with the coaching changes and/or Brady returning from injury, then I may have wasted three roster spots. And with three of my five backs sharing a bye week, I'd better hope the Jets and Cowboys don't share the same bye as the Pats, or that I get immunity that week.

Two decent kickers who have starting jobs. Hate to waste both picks on kickers but I have to worry about a kicker run, especially after watching 15 kickers go in one round in one of the other WSLs. I want two guys who have jobs.

Happy to get the Tennessee and Jacksonville Ds. Picking at the end, if I waited any longer I'd have been left without anything good at DST. Instead I grabbed a tier one D and the last of my tier two Ds. Happy about that.

I don't care for this team, but I really didn't have a lot of options from my draft spot. Hard to get value on the ends. I think it hurt me specifically in the second round (hated to make the Gates pick), the third/fourth (if I'd seen the huge WR run coming, I'd have at least picked up a better WR1), and my QB1, D and K picks (after seeing the runs in those positions, I was forced to pick them a little earlier than I'd have liked to avoid the risk of a run coming up. It also kind of stunk watching both of Barber's backups going before the pick where I'd first have considered them. I'd thought they'd last a while, because there are two of them, but I think their performance was still fresh in people's minds. Still, I think I cobbled together a solid lower-middle team with upside.

2.16 Radballs - Reggie Bush, RB18, New Orleans

3.01 Radballs - Terrell Owens, WR11, Dallas

4.16 Radballs - Donovan McNabb, QB8, Philadelphia

5.01 Radballs - Kellen Winslow III, TE7, Cleveland

6.16 Radballs - Deion Branch, WR39, Seattle

7.01 Radballs - Kevin Curtis, WR40, Philadelphia

8.16 Radballs - Jake Delhomme, QB21, Carolina

10.16 Radballs - Antwaan Randle-El, WR64, Washington

11.01 Radballs - Todd Heap, TE19, Baltimore

I like where I've got most of these guys. Very boom or bust team except for the Chester Taylor hedge on AP. WRs a little weak but I'm hopefully covered everywhere else (notwithstanding potential bye conflicts).

BusMan

1.09 BusMan - Matt Forte, RB9, Chicago

2.08 BusMan - Calvin Johnson, WR5, Detroit

3.09 BusMan - Dallas Clark, TE4, Indianapolis

4.08 BusMan - Antonio Bryant, WR23, Tampa Bay

5.09 BusMan - Kurt Warner, QB10, Arizona

6.08 BusMan - Knowshon Moreno, RB30, ROOKIE

7.09 BusMan - Matt Jones, WR45, Jacksonville

8.08 BusMan - Earnest Graham, RB38, Tampa Bay

9.09 BusMan - Shaun Hill, QB26, San Francisco

10.08 BusMan - Devery Henderson, WR60, New Orleans???

11.09 BusMan - Edgerrin James, RB53, Arizona

12.08 BusMan - New York Jets, DST7
Taking a look at this list makes me realize there is a great deal of uncertainty surrounding my squad:--will Antonio Bryant be back in TB and continue to flourish? If so, who will be throwing him the ball?

--will Kurt Warner retire?

--which team draft's Moreno and will he get enough touches to contribute as an RB2?

--will Matt Jones be suspended?

--does Earnest Graham get the full-time gig in TB's backfield?

--will Shaun Hill be the 9ers first-string cube?

--where does Devery Henderson end up?

--ditto for Edge?

I need most of the answers to these questions to be positive for my squad to compete.

Blue-Kun

1.12 Blue-Kun - Frank Gore, RB12, San Francisco

2.05 Blue-Kun - Roddy White, WR4, Atlanta

3.12 Blue-Kun - Chris Cooley, TE5, Washington

4.05 Blue-Kun - Bernard Berrian, WR21, Minnesota

5.12 Blue-Kun - Kevin Walter, WR33, Houston

6.05 Blue-Kun - Tim Hightower, RB29, Arizona

7.12 Blue-Kun - Chad Pennington, QB16, Miami

8.05 Blue-Kun - Matt Hasselbeck, QB18, Seattle

9.12 Blue-Kun - Felix Jones, RB45, Dallas

10.05 Blue-Kun - Nate Washington, WR58, Pittsburgh

11.12 Blue-Kun - Bobby Engram, WR65, Seattle

12.05 Blue-Kun - Minnesota Vikings, DST5

13.12 Blue-Kun - Ryan Torain, RB59, Denver

14.05 Blue-Kun - Seattle Seahawks, DST21

15.12 Blue-Kun - Mason Crosby, PK7, Green Bay

16.05 Blue-Kun - Bryant Johnson, WR82, San Francisco

QB: Kind of happy with this set. If I can't get a top 5 guy, then I rather have 2 guys with potential or a bunch of scrubs. Hasselbeck is a top 10 guy when healthy and when the first 4 starting WR's aren't on IR after the 2nd game of the season. Somehow I doubt the latter will happen again, so I think for the 8th round, he's tremendous value. Chad Pennington isn't a world-beater, but shown in the past that if he plays a full season he can put together decent numbers. Middle of the pack here.

RB: Wanted Lynch, but Gore is roughly the same, especially with Martz gone and Singletary wanting to get back to old school smash-mouth football. He's finished 5th, 7th and 14th in the format and I think if he plays 15 games he lands in the top 10. Tim(my) Hightower is a a make or break pick for my RB corps. I was very impressed with his performance with limited touches and with Edge possibly leaving AZ this season, he could be the go-to guy in 09. In games where he got the rock 11 times or more, he averaged 11.7 PPG which may not seem like much, but he was a rookie and many times it was only those 11-13 runs.

Felix Jones is a high reward, low risk pick. In the six games he played, in three of them he had 12+ fantasy points, all on less than 10 carries. As long as he's healthy I expect him to be a homerun guy in the Dallas backfield, which could put out some pretty gaudy FF numbers at times. Ryan Torain is just... well if it hits and he's 'the guy' then you got a starting RB in round 13. If not, *shrug*.

Not a great core, but has some major upside.

WR: Took a chance on Roddy White early last year and it paid off huge. I took him earlier this year and with Matt Ryan I expect it to keep paying dividends. After that my WR core is just a mix of high upside guys (Engram and Berrian) and some guys for some consistency (Walter, Nate Washington, etc.).

My WR cores rarely disappoint me in these drafts and I think by the end of it I'll be in the top 3-4 cores even if they may not look amazing on paper.

TE: Chris Cooley is a continual top 5 guy at TE in this scoring format and the top tier TE's pay off too much to ignore. I grabbed Tony G. last year in almost every league and he finished 3rd in points scored out of all positions. My TE scoring is great even if I don't grab anyone else purely off this type of scoring potential.

K/DEF: They don't suck. I think, maybe. the end.

John Doe

5.13 JohnDoe - Matt Schaub, QB11, Houston

8.04 JohnDoe - Joe Flacco, QB17, Baltimore

1.13 JohnDoe - Steve Slaton, RB13, Houston

3.13 JohnDoe - Kevin Smith, RB21, Detroit

10.04 JohnDoe - Ahmad Bradshaw, RB47, NY Giants

2.04 JohnDoe - Reggie Wayne, WR3, Indianapolis

4.04 JohnDoe - Vincent Jackson, WR20, San Diego

6.04 JohnDoe - Donnie Avery, WR37, St. Louis

9.13 JohnDoe - Jeremy Maclin, WR55, ROOKIE

11.13 JohnDoe - Johnnie Lee Higgins, WR66, Oakland

7.13 JohnDoe - Greg Olsen, TE12, Chicago

2.04 JohnDoe - Joe Klopfenstein, TE23, Saint Louis

13.13 JohnDoe - Arizona Cardinals, DST18

14.04 JohnDoe - San Francisco 49ers, DST20

15.13 JohnDoe - Jeff Reed, PK8, Pittsburgh

16.04 JohnDoe - Kris Brown, PK13, Houston

QB: Picking @ 13 I did not think that I would get a top tier QB, but the Schaub/Flacco combo should be serviceable. The problems with Schaub are a) He has not had a healthy season as a starter and b) BYE conflict with Slaton. He does have potential in this offense to put up some good numbers with AJ and Daniels catching passes, and Walter is not a bad receiver as a third option. Flacco has some room to grow, but is limited by the run first offense employed by the Ravens.

RB: Slaton as RB1 should pan out. I don't know what the plans are for Smith in Detroit, but IMO defensive minded coaches like to run the ball to control the clock. I can also see Detroit drafting a RB and going RBBC for the season to keep both backs fresh. Smith comes with a good bit of risk. Bradshaw has upside as he moves into the RB2 role in NY. The Giants wont bring back both Jacobs and Ward, so he will see carries.

WR: I could not pass up Wayne early in the second and followed him up with V Jackson. The SD running game is not the same as it was in 07 and they are having to rely more on the arm of Rivers. Donnie Avery seemed to take over the WR1 role in St. Louis during the second half of the season last year. With good quarterback/offensive line play he could have a breakout season. Maclin is one of the top rookies and should see playing time wherever he lands. Higgins has the opportunity, but the question is can he take advantage.

TE: Olsen has the talent to finish top 10, and could see a good deal of passes if the Bear receiving corps does not improve much more. My other TE was a total mistake of a pick. If he counts in any week other than Olsen's BYE week I am in serious trouble.

DST: Both are in the NFC West. That is by design as there has been some significant turnover in the coach/coordinator ranks in that division since the end of the season.

K: Neither of them are UFA, so they should keep their jobs. The fact that I have three Texans on my team should not be taken as an indication that I think their offense will be really good this year. It is nothing but a coincidence.

QB: Drew Brees, Brady Quinn

Obviously a strength for my squad, as Brees is a mortal lock for top 5 status this season. Quinn provides some depth with some upside.

RB: DeAngelo Williams, Derrick Ward, Chris "Beanie" Wells, Cedric Benson, Fred Taylor

The obvious question mark on my squad, but I feel pretty good about this group. I know many aren't sold on Wililams, but as a Saints fan, I watched a lot of Carolina's games this year, and I was blown away by his play. In my mind, he looked like the best RB in the game out there -- a great mix of vision, speed, and power. He looked absolutely dynamic, and I don't think there's any way that Carolina abandons what worked so well for them last year. Sure, Stewart will continue to get his looks, but I really think DW still finishes in the top 5.

The rest are certainly a crap shoot, but I see lots of potential. Ward will either a) stay in NY, where he'll be a very serviceable #2 RB in this format, or b) leave to take a starting gig somewhere else. I like Wells' skill set, and if he lands on the right team, he could be huge. Love him or hate him, Benson played reasonably well last year, and will at least have a shot to start the season as Cincy's RB1. I don't have any illusions about Taylor, but in the 18th round, I like him as a RB5.

WR: Marques Colston, DeSean Jackson, Hines Ward, Mark Bradley, Malcom Floyd, Adrian Arrington, Andre Caldwell

I like this group a lot -- three solid guys in Colston, Jackson, and Ward, and four guys with upside. I do wish I would have landed someone a bit more proven and consistent after my WR3 -- could be a potential problem if I whiff on the guys who are my WR4-7.

TE: Marcedes Lewis, Kevin Boss

Yuck -- certainly one of the worst duos in this draft. That said, both are young and have continued to get better. I have to hope at least one of them takes another step forward this year.

K: Graham, Hartley -- they're kickers.

DT: Bucs, Pats

Will be curious to see how the Bucs do now that Monte has moved on. Pats should be ok as well.

Overall -- I like this team, but will probably live and die with DWill. I start the season with last year's #1 RB and #1 QB, which is pretty nice in a 16 team league. But there's certainly enough ??? at TE and RB that could wind up sinking them early.

First I'll break it down by the draft chronology, then by position:

Rounds 1-4:

1.07 Jeff Pasquino - Chris Johnson, RB7, Tennessee

2.10 Jeff Pasquino - Steve Smith, WR7, Carolina

3.07 Jeff Pasquino - Peyton Manning, QB2, Indianapolis

4.10 Jeff Pasquino - Willie Parker, RB25, Pittsburgh
Strategy here - take a stud RB1 then go WR1 then see what happens. Could go WR2 in Round 3, but Peyton falling into my lap makes that a no-brainer. Normally I'd go WR in Rould 4 then but FWP was too good to pass on as well.
Rounds 5-8:

5.07 Jeff Pasquino - Anthony Gonzalez, WR29, Indianapolis

6.10 Jeff Pasquino - Dustin Keller, TE10, NY Jets

7.07 Jeff Pasquino - Nate Burleson, WR44, Seattle

8.10 Jeff Pasquino - Davone Bess, WR50, Miami
After securing a rock-solid QB and 2 RBs, the need here is WR2 and TE early. Grabbed Anthony Gonzalez for his upside (and he goes well with Peyton, which could be good or bad) and Keller was a Top 10 guy I wanted. I could have gone TE at 5 but only 2 went after that so I think I made a good call. Obviously the next need is WR so I hit that twice in Rounds 7 and 8.

Rounds 9-12:

9.07 Jeff Pasquino - Tyler Thigpen, QB25, Kansas City

10.10 Jeff Pasquino - Josh Morgan, WR61, San Francisco

11.07 Jeff Pasquino - Anthony Fasano, TE22, Miami

12.10 Jeff Pasquino - Dallas Cowboys, DST8
To get Thigpen at QB2, even with Peyton, is a coup. With 24 gone I was very surprised that he was still there. I thought about waiting even longer and grabbing Kerry Collins as well. Morgan was a nice grab as I think many were targeting him in Rounds 10/11 timeframe. TE2 was then a need and I think I timed that one pretty well. Defense came next so I wanted to grab a Top 10 team with a sack-master like Demarcus Ware to get some sure points out of D1.
Rounds 13-20:

13.07 Jeff Pasquino - Donald Brown, RB58, ROOKIE

14.10 Jeff Pasquino - Houston Texans, DST23

15.07 Jeff Pasquino - Rob Bironas, PK5, Tennessee

16.10 Jeff Pasquino - Joe Nedney, PK17, San Francisco

17.07 Jeff Pasquino - Warrick Dunn, RB65, Tampa Bay

18.10 Jeff Pasquino - Jason Avant, WR92, Philadelphia

19.07 Jeff Pasquino - Hakeem Nicks, WR97, ROOKIE

20.10 Jeff Pasquino - Darrius Heyward-Bey, WR107, ROOKIE
Let the fun begin! A rookie with big upside at RB3, followed by D2 and both kickers. RB4 was a nice grab in Dunn and then finished with 3 upside WRs.

Now to break it down by position:

Jeff Pasquino

QB:

3.07 Jeff Pasquino - Peyton Manning, QB2, Indianapolis 9.07 Jeff Pasquino - Tyler Thigpen, QB25, Kansas City

Peyton's a rock-solid Top 2 QB once again for 2009. That's huge given the 16-team, no waiver format. He'll likely start every game again and post big numbers. Thigpen's a nice upside guy and could give me 1-2 scores for Peyton's off days (aside from his bye).

Speaking of which, I dusted off my Bye Week Study notes and looked at the bye weeks since 2002. :hot:

KC and Indy have never had the same bye week since 2002, so I like my odds.

Overall I think the QB position is a strong one and probably one of the strongest in WSL2.

RBs:

1.07 Jeff Pasquino - Chris Johnson, RB7, Tennessee

4.10 Jeff Pasquino - Willie Parker, RB25, Pittsburgh

13.07 Jeff Pasquino - Donald Brown, RB58, ROOKIE

17.07 Jeff Pasquino - Warrick Dunn, RB65, Tampa Bay

Some might question having only 4, but that's how life goes in most other Survivor leagues and I think that my top two are strong enough that RB3 and RB4 shouldn't be contributing much on a regular basis. I had one or two more RBs that I thought about taking in Round 20 but it was a close call. (After Radball's pick I'll mention both names). Donald Brown has great upside as he's expected to be a Day 1 draft pick. If he gets to the right team he could be another Matt Forte-type contributor out of the gate. Dunn's a great RB4 on a team that used him a ton last year and he should be in the RBBC for the Bucs at the worst.

So, even though I only have 4, I like this group and consider it to be an above average RB corps. There's probably anywhere from 5-7 teams with a better RB group but for now I like this quartet to keep me alive and not be a weakness.

WRs:

2.10 Jeff Pasquino - Steve Smith, WR7, Carolina

5.07 Jeff Pasquino - Anthony Gonzalez, WR29, Indianapolis

7.07 Jeff Pasquino - Nate Burleson, WR44, Seattle

8.10 Jeff Pasquino - Davone Bess, WR50, Miami

10.10 Jeff Pasquino - Josh Morgan, WR61, San Francisco

18.10 Jeff Pasquino - Jason Avant, WR92, Philadelphia

19.07 Jeff Pasquino - Hakeem Nicks, WR97, ROOKIE

20.10 Jeff Pasquino - Darrius Heyward-Bey, WR107, ROOKIE

Eight WRs may seem excessive, but when you take two rookies and have more strengths at other spots (like taking QB in Round 3) you need to trade quantity for quality. That said, I think my Top 4-5 guys are pretty good. Steve Smith is certainly a WR1. Gonzalez needs to step into Marvin Harrison's role to be a Top 25 guy but I like those odds. Burleson had 10 TDs two years ago and is depressed in value due to last year's injury (and the Seattle situations like Hasselbeck and a coaching change). I almost took Plaxico there and was sniped by one pick - but now I'm glad that happened.

Bess probably shouldnt' have lasted to WR50, but I'll take that for sure. He's going to put up good PPR numbers. Josh Morgan could be a starter this fall and I know several other teams in WSL2 were upset I was taking him when I did. Avant could be a nice PPR / possession receiver for Philly in 09 as he showed some of that skill in January. Lastly, I took two rookies I like whom I think will be in Baltimore and for the Giants on Day 1 this April. I think either one can put up good games and post a Top 3 score to count for me, which is all I can ask for from Round 19 and Round 20 guys. The risk here for rookies is always true, but taking two lessens some of it. I almost passed on DHB in Round 20 for a RB5 but I thought WR needed more help than RB.

Overall? Interesting mix of wideouts. I need Gonzalez to start and then all I really need is one of the other six to step up now and then to put up some nice scores. I understand that EVERYONE LOVES THEIR TEAM but I do like this group. While it may lack some bigger names that other WSL teams may have, the depth is good here and every WR on this list is capable of getting 50 catches and 4-6 TDs in 2009 - so once again I like these odds.

TEs:

6.10 Jeff Pasquino - Dustin Keller, TE10, NY Jets

11.07 Jeff Pasquino - Anthony Fasano, TE22, Miami

Really would have liked a bigger name at TE1, but Keller really performed well down the stretch last year with 4 big weeks in a row (Weeks 10-13). He faded along with the rest of the Jets in December, but he has the potential to top 50 receptions in 2009 (he had 48 in 2008) and boost some TD numbers (just 3 last year). Even without Favre he should be targeted often next year. As for Fasano, he actually finished higher in FBG scoring than Keller despite fewer catches (34) due to his 7 TDs. Together they would have been a strong pair in 08 as they topped 10 points in 12 of 17 weeks together. Not too bad at all.

:lmao: check - NYJ and MIA have also never shared a bye since 2002.

Ks:

15.07 Jeff Pasquino - Rob Bironas, PK5, Tennessee

16.10 Jeff Pasquino - Joe Nedney, PK17, San Francisco

Definitely wanted two kickers with job security. Bironas is not going anywhere and Nedney also appears safe.

:lmao: check - Couldn't avoid it, but at least TEN and SF have only shared one bye since 2002.

D/STs:

12.10 Jeff Pasquino - Dallas Cowboys, DST8

14.10 Jeff Pasquino - Houston Texans, DST23

Dallas should be my defense most weeks, but I expect the Texans to do all right. Both teams have playmakers and good kick returners.

:nerd: check - DAL and HOU have also never shared a bye since 2002. When I took Dallas I basically checked to see who lined up well with them and the Texans leaped off the page as a team with upside and also one who should be available with under 12 defenses left, and I lucked out (I hope).

Overall I like the team and with some luck in FA and the NFL Draft it could roll, but who knows at this point.

At least I had fun with it and it was a good time to do (despite my twisting of arms to try and pick up the pace).

Good luck to all and I welcome additional reviews / thoughts.

How is it that neither Ladell Betts nor Selvin Young were selected???
I can't really speak to Betts, as he seems to be a good late round flier. As for Selvin, it seems as though he could be relegated to the third back on the totem pole in Denver. Given the uncertainty surrounding the Denver RB corps in general, as well as the passing proclivity of the offense, he doesn't seem like the best investment. Selvin could end up being Mike Bell 2.0.

I was torn between DHB and Betts. Really surprised both were still left.Betts could easily be a stud if Portis trails off or gets hurt. We all know how likely that could be in 09.

Considering some of the other picks I was shocked he was still there.

I had considered Betts, but he's a bit up there in years too, and I'm NOT convinced that Washington doesn't look to add to their stable this off-season.

I chose Kolby Smith over him for what I think is similar upside.

1.03 Renesauz - Michael Turner, RB3, Atlanta

2.14 Renesauz - Greg Jennings, WR10, Green Bay

3.03 Renesauz - Dwayne Bowe, WR13, Kansas City

4.14 Renesauz - Jonathan Stewart, RB26, Carolina

I love picking early in thses drafts...except in the WSL's. With s many ??/ about so many players and NFL rosters so far from set, picking early in WSL's is a curse rather then a blessing. There are four or five other RB's I would have been very comfortable with as RB1, and drafting deeper would have neted me a more preferable WR1. Still, Bowe in the third is a nice concolation. It's hard to say how much value was there with Stewart, because Williams looked great last year, but I think he's more likely then not to live up to this draft position.

5.03 Renesauz - Santonio Holmes, WR26, Pittsburgh

6.14 Renesauz - Matt Ryan, QB14, Atlanta

7.03 Renesauz - Justin Gage, WR41, Tennessee

8.14 Jason Campbell

9.03 Renesauz - Rashard Mendenhall, RB43, Pittsburgh

I'm loving Holmes in the 5th as a WR3...lot's of upside there with an aging Ward. I suspect Ryan will be a steal as the 14th QB, I don't much care for Gage, but at WR41, there wasn't much left I did like. Mendenhall is a boom or bust pick but worth a ninth.

10.14 Renesauz - Brent Celek, TE17, Philadelphia

11.03 Renesauz - Vernon Davis, TE21, San Francisco

12.14 Renesauz - Brandon Jackson, RB56, Green Bay

13.03 Renesauz - San Diego Chargers, DST13

I never meant to ignore TE this long, but never felt I was getting good value before this point (or felt I had a greater need elsewhere). Celek showed a lot towards the end of the season, but I wanted an above average TE2 as insurance with such a risky TE1. Brandon Jackson may very well be the SOD in the 12th. I wanted him in the tenth but couldn't ignore TE any longer! He will at the very least continue as a third down back for GB, and it wouldn't surprise me at all to see him challenge for a lot more playing time.

6.14 Renesauz - Matt Ryan, QB14, Atlanta

8.14 Jason Campbell

Nice and safe with above average upside.

1.03 Renesauz - Michael Turner, RB3, Atlanta

4.14 Renesauz - Jonathan Stewart, RB26, Carolina

9.03 Renesauz - Rashard Mendenhall, RB43, Pittsburgh

12.14 Renesauz - Brandon Jackson, RB56, Green Bay

20.14 Renesauz - Kolby Smith, RB75, Kansas City

Turner is a stud, and the trio of Stewart/Mendy/Jackson should insure steady production at RB2. Kolby Smith is a boom or bust pick. Good but not great group.

2.14 Renesauz - Greg Jennings, WR10, Green Bay

3.03 Renesauz - Dwayne Bowe, WR13, Kansas City

5.03 Renesauz - Santonio Holmes, WR26, Pittsburgh

7.03 Renesauz - Justin Gage, WR41, Tennessee

16.14 Renesauz - James Hardy, WR85, Buffalo

19.03 Renesauz - Brandon Lloyd, WR95, Chicago

I really like my first three and the upside of Hardy and Lloyd. I'd feel better with another WR, but as long as I don't get hit hard with injuries, this should perform as a top group.

10.14 Renesauz - Brent Celek, TE17, Philadelphia

11.03 Renesauz - Vernon Davis, TE21, San Francisco

18.14 Renesauz - Robert Royal , TE28, Buffalo

Ton's of upside, but more then a little risk to Celek/Davis. Royal was a late safety pick with some upside as well. Between the three, I should be OK at TE, at worst.

13.03 Renesauz - San Diego Chargers, DST13

14.14 Renesauz - Nate Kaeding, PK2, San Diego

15.03 Renesauz - Atlanta Falcons, DST27

17.03 Renesauz - Phil Dawson, PK23, Cleveland

Yeah...I got two of each. For what it's worth (which isn't much), I think the Atlanta DST should significantly out-perform the #27 ranking.

Overall, I think this squad should be a contender, but I need a little luck in the injury department with my WR's. That's a pretty meaningless statemtn this early though.

It's nice to get some insight on JP's thinking since I have at least two real drafts with him later this year. We're too close on some guys though, as he sniped me at least three times in this draft.

QB:

4.02 Valence - Tom Brady, QB4, New England

18.02 Valence - Tavaris Jackson, QB34, Minnesota

pretty risky group, but I really think Brady will be back. I wanted to add Garcia as well, but AP took him right before where I had him slotted. Who knows what's going to happen in Minnesota at this point. It's been proven that you can do well with 1 or even zero QB's in this format so I'm not too worried about this position.

RB:

2.02 Valence - Brandon Jacobs, RB15, New York Giants

3.15 Valence - Pierre Thomas, RB22, New Orleans

5.15 Valence - Jamal Lewis, RB28, Cleveland

7.15 Valence - LeRon MClain, RB35, Baltimore

13.15 Valence - Peyton Hillis, RB60, Denver

I like the five I got where I got them. Jacobs should be good for at least 10 games. Thomas showed late last season that he has earned a significant role for the Saints next season. Jamal will provide the occasional big game, probably won't point for me much otherwise unless there are injuries. LeRon could certainly have a diminished role next season with all the other backs involved in Baltimore, but I think he will still get the Touchdowns. Hillis surprised everyone last year before injury. I think he at least gets an opportunity next year. I believe he will capitalize on that opportunity and be a major contributor. Regardless, pretty big upside for the 60th back drafted.

WR:

1.15 Valence - Andre Johnson, WR2, Houston

6.02 Valence - Steve Breaston, WR35, Arizona

10.02 Valence - Marvin Harrison, WR57, Indianapolis

11.15 Valence - Percy Harvin, WR68, ROOKIE

14.02 Valence - James Jones, WR76, Green Bay

17.15 Valence - Harry Douglas, WR89, Atlanta

19.15 Valence - Devin Thomas, WR101, Washington

Interesting group here, mostly looking at upside outside of AJ. If Boldin goes then Breaston could be huge. If Boldin stays, who knows. Marvin should be good for 6-800 yards and a few TD's which is ok for a WR3. The rest of the guys are kind of a crapshoot. Harvin good contribute in the right situation. He kind of reminds me of a more technically sound DeSean Jackson. James Jones will produce if he can stay healthy. I like him a bit more than Jordy Nelson. Harry Douglas showed flashes last year. Given the opportunity I think he can beat out Michael Jenkins. Devin Thomas has loads of potential, but I don't know if he will make the most of the opportunities he gets. He looked better than Malcom Kelley though.

TE:

8.02 Valence - Jeremy Shockey, TE13, New Orleans

9.15 Valence - Heath Miller, TE15, Pittsburgh

I like this group. Shockey for his potential big games when healthy; Miller for his steady contributions.

K:

15.15 Valence - Jason Elam, PK9, Atlanta

20.02 Valence - Matt Stover, PK30, Baltimore

one really good one and one that used to be really good.

D:

12.02 Valence - Baltimore Ravens, DST3

16.02 Valence - Detroit Lions, DST32

one really good one and one that might score points on the bye week.

overall there are too many questions to be confident about this team at this point. I'm tired of finishing in the 5th-8th place in these things so I took a bit riskier approach that I usually do. the end of the draft order seems a lot tougher this year than in previous years just due to the lack of sure fire stud RB's.

the offseason is going to decide a lot of things for this team.

As many have already mentioned, there is a great deal of uncertainty associated with the WSLs. Virtually no player movement has occurred (with the notable exception of Favre’s ill-timed re-retirement). Given all the unknowns, I went back and performed some basic analysis on this league last year. I was mostly interested in determining the number of “starts” (top 16/32/48 weekly performances, based on roster positions), “top-half starts” and “top-quarter starts” for the individuals to be drafted. I hoped this would uncover some late round gems in this format. Garnering a WR 7 that has a history of scoring in this format for a few weeks seems like a bonus, especially if history can be any guide.

Other draft aides: Draft Dominator with year end 2008 stats loaded into the WSL scoring format; 2008 FBG PPG scoring

I’ve only been participating in these message board survivor leagues a couple of years now, but I think I’m starting to get more comfortable with the format and process.

The Draft I didn’t go after a pre-determined roster composition, but instead tried to let the draft come to me in determining where my quantity strengths and weaknesses would land. It just so happens I ended up with the “classic” roster, but I’m not so sure that’s a good thing considering 1) I have a TON of uncertainty at QB and 2) WR quantity always seems to be a decent bet in these survivor leagues.

1.09 - Matt Forte, RB9, Chicago - A no-brainer at this draft slot in a PPR league.

2.08 - Calvin Johnson, WR5, Detroit – I just love this guy. To put up the numbers he did last year in Detroit—wow. Needless to say I have high expectations; I would be surprised if they weren’t reached.

3.09 - Dallas Clark, TE4, Indianapolis – Seems like it’s a good idea to have a stud TE in this format. Clark was the last TE1 I wanted.

4.08 - Antonio Bryant, WR23, Tampa Bay – Guy had a huge year and just got franchised by Tampa; will McCown be hurling him the rock?

5.09 - Kurt Warner, QB10, Arizona – Yes he may still retire, but I’m betting (and hoping) he won’t. Dude was a FA p/u in my local league last year and helped me lose my league’s super bowl.

6.08 - Knowshon Moreno, RB30, ROOKIE – Isn’t he the general consensus as the most-likely-to-contribute incoming RB in his rookie season? Now where does he go?

7.09 - Matt Jones, WR45, Jacksonville – Likely a bit of a reach. I really didn’t like my options here, and kind of bumped Matt up based on missing those games at the end of the year.

8.08 - Earnest Graham, RB38, Tampa Bay – I’m really getting in my TB guys, which is weird as a Broncos fan. I’m guessing he gets the bulk of the work?

9.09 - Shaun Hill, QB26, San Francisco – Last QB2 I thought had good upside (other than McCown who materialized later in the draft). Still risky though, as he could easily be replaced in SF. There are plausible possibilities that have me entering the season with no QBs.

10.08 - Devery Henderson, WR60, New Orleans??? – Like him in this format no matter where he signs. His high YPA/bomb TD proclivity is great in a survivor league.

11.09 - Edgerrin James, RB53, Arizona – Is Edge done? I could’ve seen him in Denver before Shanny was fired, but now? Who knows…I’m hoping he still contributes somewhere.

12.08 - New York Jets, DST7 – Like this squad with Rex in town.

13.09 - Bobby Wade, WR73, Minnesota – He was pretty good in this format last year (WR50 or so).

14.08 - Brandon Stokely, WR78, Denver – Denver will likely still have to pass a ton in 2009.

15.09 - Cincinnati Bengals, DST30 – Surprisingly, Cincinnati scored quite a few times in this format, especially down the stretch. Could do worse as one of the final defenses off the board.

16.08 - Matt Bryant, PK15, Tampa Bay – Not another Tampa guy!

17.09 - Matt Prater, PK24, Denver - Possibility he loses the job due to inaccuracy/perceived head issues.

18.08 - Billy Miller, TE27, New Orleans – Waited on TE with Dallas as TE1---was pretty good last year with Shockey out. In Brees I trust.

19.09 - Javon Ringer, RB73, ROOKIE – If I had to do this over, I’d take Gartrell Johnson. Bad pick.

20.08 - Ike Hilliard, WR105, Tampa Bay – Oh crap another TB receiver.

My QBs are risky and I have too many TB guys. Perhaps if I can sneak through the Bucs bye week I can contend? I’m not counting on it.

 for the contribution, and   for the usage of the word "proclivity". ;)

Thom Yorke

RB situation has certainly cleared up quite a bit for me. Ward is in Tampa and looks like he'll have a pretty significant role. Benson has resigned with Cincy and does in fact appear to be their pick to be the day one starter. And finally, Freddy T has landed in NE, so there's certainly some upside there. Now, whether any of these guys will do anything is another story entirely.

QB Tiers

Note that although I think the general tiering is correct, the specifics can certainly be argued and aren't necessarily in a locked-in order.

Tier 1

Thom Yorke: Drew Brees, Brady Quinn

Reaper: Tony Romo, Kerry Collins

Why they're #1: Since going to NO, Brees worst FF season would put him as the 6th best QB last year and 5th best last year. He's pretty much the tops as far as QB goes, has no signficant injury within recent memory (unlike Brady and Manning), hasn't lost any important weapons and is the definition of consistency. Brady Quinn looks to be the starter in CLE, as unglamorous as that sounds, he still has Braylon Edwards to throw too and didn't look awful for the small period of time he got to play last year.

Romo was on pace to finish as the 2nd FF QB for the 08 season before getting injured. Even if TO disappears, he still has plenty of weapons and the Dallas defense will probably stay as pitiful as it's always been. Kerry Collins resigned as the starter in TEN and could come up for a few weeks.

Tier 2

Jeff Pasquino: Peyton Manning, Tyler Thigpen

Valence: Brady, Tavaris Jackson

Atomic Punk: Phillip Rivers, Jeff Garcia

BusMan: Kurt Warner, Shaun Hill

Shadowfax: Aaron Rodgers, Byron Leftwich, Matthew Statford

Dpeease: Cutler, Bulger

Thigpen may no longer be the starter in KC, but Peyton Manning is still PM. Even a slight downtick keeps him in the top 5 QB's. Questions concerning Brady's knee are the only reason Valence's team isn't higher on here; for the sake of his ranking I'm assuming Brady misses no signficant time and is relatively healthy for 09. Phillip Rivers showed a lot as a viable FF QB as well as real NFL QB. With LT declining, the opportunities will be there for Rivers to make a repeat season.

Aaron Rodgers / Kurt Warner / Cutler all share the same one stud QB and crap configuration, so I simply put them in the order I'd prefer them in. You can quibble over placement, but everyone in this group has shown they can be up there with the best in a given year.

Tier 3

Jeter23: Ben Roethlisberger, David Garrard, Matt Cassel

BostonFred: Carson Palmer, Trent Edwards, Matt Leinart

Blue-Kun: Chad Pennington, Matt Hasselbeck, Luke McCown

Aaron Rudnicki: Eli Manning, Kyle Orton

Radballs: Donovan McNabb, Jake Delhomme

Pretty much everyone here is QBBC except Radballs who's more like, 'I hope McNabb can stay healthy'. Jeter is the only one out of the group, and likely everyone in the draft, who has 3 starters at this point in time. So despite the lackluster performances of Garrard and Roehlisburger, I have to give him the benefit of the doubt on sheer numbers and potential.

Everyone else has 2 viable starters and positions change roughly on how much you like their situations. For example, I think Palmer has the chance at a comeback season after continual injuries took their toll. The same with Edwards who had some decent games before getting hurt. Pennington is coming back to the same offensive weapons he had success with last year and this year I think Hasselbeck won't be going into the opener with 4 WR's hurt. Eli Manning may lose Burress which would detract from his already back-up FF starter status.

Tier 4

Renesauz: Matt Ryan, Jason Campbell

John Doe: Matt Schaub, Joe Flacco, Kellen Clemens

Although all of these guys have shown potential, either injuries or simply being reined in by their own coaches limits their potential at the moment. Matt Ryan could definitely make the biggest leap up as he has the best weapons and showed the best poise and accuracy by far out of the last few rookie classes.

Tier 5

Old Milwaukee: JaMarcus Russell, Jon Kitna, Brett Favre, Vince Young

How you only nab one starter out of 4 QB is beyond me. Favre is currently retried, Kitna is a back-up, VY is a back-up with little value if he sees the field and Russell still heads the dysfunctional RAIDAS. I could be wrong and Russell takes a big step forward, but this position for OM seems very poor despite 4 picks being spent on it.

QB Tiers

Note that although I think the general tiering is correct, the specifics can certainly be argued and aren't necessarily in a locked-in order.

Tier 1

Thom Yorke: Drew Brees, Brady Quinn

Reaper: Tony Romo, Kerry Collins
Hmmmm, Even I'm cautiously optimistic at this point. I like Romo but, not sure about the top ranking and Collins is just filler - though maybe the defense tales a step back without Albert and they need to throw some more?

I haven't had a chance to a do a write up - I've had pnuemonia for what seems like a month. Trying to catch up on everything else.. That said, a few words:

- I went into this WSL looking to shake it up. I usually look to play it safe in the WSL (which doesn't always work out anyway) but this time I actually looked for situations that might change and bring a bigger value - Which at quick glance meant Dallas Wr's, Arizona WR's (missed Breaston - is Boldin staying though???), The SD RB's as well as rookie RB's, Also wanted Derrick Ward at some point but missed..... Looking back, I'm pretty sure Chris Johnson wasn't even drafted in WSL2 last year and he was one of the key spark plugs to successful Survivor teams last year.... Again, one of the reasons I felt like rolling some dice in the WSL and hoping for some big upside.

Now that a few weeks have gone by and FA, I'm not sure exactly how that worked out - Brady would have been nice. In Dallas, I think Roy Williams looks like a good WR3 for my squad - again, not so sure if Romo doesn't take a hit but, he should put up decent #'s regardless....

In SD - I guess, the best case would have been for one of the RB's to move on... When I drafted Sproles, I liked Leon Washington A LOT more - Talent wise and current situation wise... I kinda went for the handcuff and possible trade situation with Sproles but, IMO Leon is going to be great in survivor leagues this year and see a much bigger load with Mangini gone. They already signed a KR so Leon can concentrate on playing offense.

4.09 Reaper - Tony Romo, QB5, Dallas

11.08 Reaper - Kerry Collins, QB29, Tennessee

Decent value - As mentioned during the draft - I was really set on getting Manning in round 3.

1.08 Reaper - LaDainian Tomlinson, RB8, San Diego

7.08 Reaper - Darren Sproles, RB34, San Diego

8.09 Reaper - LeSean McCoy, RB39, ROOKIE

10.09 Reaper - Ray Rice, RB48, Baltimore

17.08 Reaper - Correll Buckhalter, RB66, Philadelphia???

Again, took the SD RB risk - I still think those 2 RB's bring decent production even on the same team. McCoy was my "where is Chris Johnson" pick and I wanted one of the top 3 rookie RB's as late as I could wait... A lot of things change but, at this point Donald Brown looks to be the potential steal - Depends on opportunity now. Buck's value has been a roller coaster since the draft and Rice is a wild card...

As I look, I'm not loving this combo but, it does have potential.

2.09 Reaper - Brandon Marshall, WR6, Denver

3.08 Reaper - Chad Johnson, WR15, Cincinnati

5.08 Reaper - Roy Williams, WR30, Dallas

9.08 Reaper - Dominique Hixon, WR54, NY Giants

12.09 Reaper - Robert Meachem, WR69, New Orleans

19.08 Reaper - Demetrius Williams, WR98, Baltimore

20.09 Reaper - Limas Sweed, WR106, Pittsburgh

Oh Brandon Marshall What have you done!!!!!!! Thinking I had possibly the best young WR in the game on an up and coming offense, today it looks like I've got the biggest punk in the game on a team in a bit of chaos.... I've got 3 top WR's all with the talent to be the top WR in the game but, issues to say the least....

6.09 Reaper - Zach Miller, TE9, Oakland

13.08 Reaper - Ben Watson, TE25, New England

14.09 Reaper - Washington Redskins, DST22

15.08 Reaper - Cleveland Browns, DST29

16.09 Reaper - Josh Scobee, PK16, Jacksonville

18.09 Reaper - Lawrence Tynes, PK27, New York Giants

Washington might have gained a bit of value.... Like Zach Miller - would like a better backup.

Overall, all I can say is potential - No Huge pot holes yet.

I just love the WSL's due to all the changes, uncertianty and potential at this time of the year...

I suspect my PDSL team will look a lot different - so many changes already!!!!!

Jeff Pasquino

QB:

3.07 Jeff Pasquino - Peyton Manning, QB2, Indianapolis (6)

1.07 Jeff Pasquino - Chris Johnson, RB7, Tennessee (7)

4.10 Jeff Pasquino - Willie Parker, RB25, Pittsburgh (8)

13.07 Jeff Pasquino - Donald Brown, RB58, ROOKIE

17.07 Jeff Pasquino - Warrick Dunn, RB65, Tampa Bay (FA)

Need some luck with Brown (Cardinals? Saints?) and Dunn not being, well, done.

2.10 Jeff Pasquino - Steve Smith, WR7, Carolina (4)

5.07 Jeff Pasquino - Anthony Gonzalez, WR29, Indianapolis (6)

15.07 Jeff Pasquino - Rob Bironas, PK5, Tennessee (7)

16.10 Jeff Pasquino - Joe Nedney, PK17, San Francisco (6)

:lmao: check - Couldn't avoid it, but at least TEN and SF have only shared one bye since 2002.

 D/STs:

12.10 Jeff Pasquino - Dallas Cowboys, DST8 (6)

14.10 Jeff Pasquino - Houston Texans, DST23 (10)

:lmao: check - DAL and HOU have also never shared a bye since 2002. When I took Dallas I basically checked to see who lined up well with them and the Texans leaped off the page as a team with upside and also one who should be available with under 12 defenses left, and I lucked out (I hope).
:lmao:
