Will this work on a laptop or PC?

If not, when will enhancements/improvements be made to the Draft Dominator? The Draft Dominator has been ignored for years. It's great that FBG's is at the forefront of technological advancements and is providing subscribers with new apps to run on their high-tech gadgets. Meanwhile, the Draft Dominator has taken a back seat for years and has had little to no changes/improvements over that time span.....6 years, if I'm not mistaken. There is a thread over in the Applications Questions Forum, started by Joe Bryant, asking for suggestions to improve the Draft Dominator. There are many excellent suggestions for improvements in that thread (and others.) Please take a moment to review those requests.

I don't need to be "online" to run the Draft Dominator software (this is apparently a big selling point for this new app) so I'm hoping that FBG will take a serious look at those threads and make some very needed changes and enhancements to the Draft Dominator package......THIS YEAR, NOT NEXT.

Hi Rody, The Draft GM is a mobile app for tablets and phones.I never say never but the plan for now is to put the majority of our resources into the Draft GM for mobile. There will be tweaks to the Draft Dominator but I don't envision big changes this year that you're likely hoping for. I'm sorry that's not the news you'd like to hear but I'd rather be honest than offer some kind of vague hopeful answers that major changes are coming for the Draft Dominator. We feel the push for us is for drafting tools like the Draft GM. We love the Draft Dominator and it'll be a cornerstone feature for us. But it's a fairly mature product. For changes and new things, we're pushing more toward the mobile apps. Again, I realize that won't be popular with everyone. But that's the direction we're going with our resources.J

Joe- Thanks for your honesty. I appreciate how difficult (ie impossible) it is to please everyone and like knowing were we stand in regards to the DD. I'd suggest posting something like this over in the app area as I think the prevailing thoughts are major upgrades to the DD are coming.

Back to topic.... Will the Draft GM have an auction function? Also what is the overall vision for the Draft GM? Is this a stand alone tool or is it designed to work in conjunction with the DD?

Thanks!

Dan

Joe, I'm looking forward to the App. I just have one question in regards to the App. I know you guys are supporting IDP, but please tell me that IDP is separated into S/CB instead of DB and DT/DE instead of DL. The community has been requesting this feature for years now for DD. If the resources will be mainly with the APP going forward that is great, but please let us know if this separation of IDP to follow what you guys have been doing for years with the rankings/projections will be udpated for the App.

Thanks!

Hi Joe, thanks for responding. Yeah, that's not what I was hoping to hear.

I'm not hoping for big, or major, changes, just the various tweaks we've been asking for. We don't need a whole new, revamped DD. We would just like to see the little things we've been asking for. Separate IDP positions (like FBG does with their projections,) more scoring variables (ie: ability to set our own ranges to better match our leagues scoring criteria), etc.

I guess I just don't understand the reluctance to improve upon a product which your customer base has been requesting an upgrade to for several years. Yet, each year FBG finds a new high tech avenue to travel down and throw resources at. If DD is a cornerstone feature for FBG, why has the cornerstone taken a back seat for a number of years? Yes, I know FBG came out with a Mac version of DD recently, but it was just a duplicate of the DD in it's present state. The DD is not "mature" any more. Not when the tweaks we've been asking for are incorporated into these new mobile apps, but not DD. The Draft Dominator will not be a cornerstone much longer if it remains in it's present state.

Rody

Seeing that these posts indicate this is being emphasized over DD, and Joe's e-mail mentioned it is a standalone product... does that mean to get best out of FBG that one would need to both subscribe for the Insider subscription and purchase this app?

Unless the app is less than 5 bucks I am probably passing this year. As dated as the Draft Dominator is getting it still has done wonders for my drafts and teams the past several years. I used to just print out latest Top 300 players from Dodds and use that but with the Dominator I could add notes on players from all the news I was hearing through training camp. Will this Draft GM have detailed up to date information on injuries, arrests, camp battles, hell maybe even preseason stats or at least reports? I find that very valuable to have when doing a draft.

What advantages does this app have over the DD, other than looking prettier? I do most of my drafting stuff with a laptop or desktop computer, and my live draft takes place at a home that doesn't get cell coverage...

Honestly I think the app should be included in the price of subscription.
I get what you are saying. This might be an alternative to people who used to draft with a magazine and don't want to pay for a subscription to FBG. I'd be nice if it was included with the subscription or maybe include it in the 3 year package but not the one year. If it's a $4.99 app i'll probably buy it any higher than I am sticking with the DD. Probably will end up doing so anyways unless this blows me away.

Can't wait to see this product, but will it have an auction function?

I'm with those who would like to see DD improved and worked on ASAP. I like working on my tablet/phone as much as anyone (I'm an Android guy), but no way am I trying to draft my fantasy team on it. 90 seconds to make a pick and I'm going to depend on a mobile app and a touch screen? Nope. I'll stick with a desktop computer and 2 large screens. I couldn't do it any other way.

Just curious before I get too excited - was the app developed for ios 6 and above or will my ipad 1 be able to run it?

C'mon guys. You have DD included with the subscription. Stop being cheap!
Honestly I don't really see it as being cheap. I just paid $30 to renew my subscription and $20 for the RSP. A couple years ago I was getting both the subscription and the RSP for like $20. Now I pay $50. It seems the new business model is to charge separately for new content, I don't know how far I can stretch that and justify it.

We don't own the RSP content. Matt Waldman does. He sells it independently to what we are doing. We had a license deal to allow access to it for awhile, but that deal has expired.

We have invested a lot of time and money for the apps. We are not going to give them away for free. We will price them competitively in the stores. For people that subscribe and like using their laptops or home computer for things, there is likely no reason to ever buy our apps. The data that drives the apps all comes from site feeds. It's the same data repurposed.

Few people should be paying $30. The deal we struck with FanDuel allows all people without a FanDuel account to get our subscription for FREE. Here is the link:

http://footballguys.com/fandueloffer.php

As for the Draft Dominator, we will be doing some things this year.

- We will be incorporating returners
- We will split out the IDP positions

A lot of the other requests people want fall into a few categories:

- Minimal people desire this so it's not cost effective to allocate resources for a few people

- You can't just create new categories. You have to predict them. The Draft Dominator is different than league management software in that league management records ACTUAL statistical data. So it's easy to award a bonus for 227+ passing yards because you just compare that to the actual result. In the projections world, it's not nearly that easy to create unlimited buckets. We feel we have the most common buckets for passing yards bonus, rushing yard bonus, long TDs, defensive yards and points allowed, etc. Additionally these tweaks generally have a minimal impact on drastically moving people/teams around. It's like 2 point conversions. We don't include them because they won't substantially change where people rank (in fact most players would all have a zero if we forecasted that).

Anyway, this isn't the thread to discuss Draft Dominator improvements. If you feel super strong about the Draft Dominator product lacking an absolute essential piece for the draft, send Bruce Henderson and I a note describing it. I also would love if you could tell me which competitors of ours have implemented said feature.

Dang I just paid 30 bucks for my subscription been paying every year for the past 8 years love this site.Guess i should have paid more attention didn't realize I could get it free.Oh well its worth 30 bucks for the subscribers contest alone. Now being about as low tech as you can get and never owning a cell phone apps are not going to do me much good.I do use DD however so if you ever do decide to upgrade DD it would be much appreciated by low tech old farts like me.

You can do the FanDuel deal and it adds another year to your account Plus signing up through FanDuel qualifies you for twice the prize pool ($70K) in the Subscriber Contest.

I guess I'd like to know the differences between the DD and Draft GM and if it's worth buying to bring the Ipad to the draft or laptop and DD like old.

Unforunately, those of us who played some fanduel last year are not eligible for your deal with them. Its only good for new people.

Hi jsharlan,

Good news is that's not correct. Folks that played FanDuel last year can still get the deal by reloading more money into their FanDuel account. More info here http://footballguys.com/fandueloffer.php?btag=a_1305b_358c_

Signed up last year and just tried to add $25 per the Joe link. Their site took all of my CC info, I hit enter and then it just continued to load until it timed out. May want to give their site a day to get fixed.

Its good to see they updated their offer for current members. This wasn't available when I renewed so I have already paid. Hopefully there is something similar next year.

Hi Buddy,

You can see here the offer for people that played FanDuel last year http://footballguys.com/fandueloffer.php?btag=a_1305b_358c_ For the people that are already FanDuel customers, a $100 reload with FanDuel gets you a free Footballguys Insider Subscription this year.

I'm disappointed that this isn't included in a subscription. As a long time subscriber, I've come to love your new methods of getting the data out into the world. Things like the forums, the DD, FBG Mobile, etc. And all of these methods did not require additional spending by your subscibers. This is a different model that you are switching to. We realize that. Please also realize that we understand that you do not want to commit resources to bring the DD up to current standards. Therefore a couple of things.

1) We will not be expecting you to update the Draft GM going forward. After all, if you don't want to spend resources updating your current draft software, why would we expect you to suddenly change and update the Draft GM next year, or going forward?

2) I will be comparing this draft management software to other companies draft management software. For example MFL 2013 is currently available. I am waiting for your release and then will compare them. I will not give FBG the preference seeing as this is costing me more money even after renewing my subscription. Each will be compared on their own merits and I will go with the better app.

I hope that you guys go back to an all in one subscription model. I always considered myself a FBG, but now with your ala carte method, I'm just a FootballGuy-Without the DraftGM-Without the FanDuel-Without the Mobile. It just doesn't sound as good....

The question is if you see the draft dominator as "free" (it is not, we pay subscriptions) and you see the mobile app as revenue generation, why should we think the dominator will get attention going forward?

Has anyone revealed what the price will be or is that a mystery still?

Great news, can't wait to download the app. I've been a loyal subscriber to this site for 10+ years, the forums are invaluable, as well as the daily email updates, DD, rankings, articles, everything. I have ZERO problem shelling out $5-10 bucks for an iOS app in addition to my subscription fee.

People need to understand FBG is a business. Your $30/mo was pretty much the same number it was 10 years ago, which means it does not reflect the investment of FBG in development cost for mobile apps. They obviously have to turn a profit on this investment and are going to charge for it.

If you don't want to pay, don't download it. It's not like you have a God-given right to get a free mobile app just because you shell out a whopping $30 a year for site access.

And I applaud Joe & Co. for shifting focus from the DD to these mobile apps for live drafting. Mobile it's the future, it's the now.
