Should the Packers sign James Davis? (1 Viewer)

He's a running back and he was just released. I think hes a prime candidate to be rumored to go to GB because they need to replace Grant and BJax is mediocre and Starks isnt fully back yet.... :lmao:

Brandon looked like a spring chicken lastnight.
Spring Chickens get eaten in the winter.
Until McCarthy commits to the running game there's no point. Brandon Jackson looked good enough vs the Vikings, but if Green Bay is going to go deep every 3rd and short, what's the point of signing another back?
why would you commit to a running game with two mediocre (at best) backs??

I think its a legit question and I like the idea of them signing him. Yes, he hasn't done much since getting hurt last year but sometimes that's not as easy as just saying " the guy isn't any good". Sometimes a change in venue is the best remedy. Cedric Benson "wasn't any good" until he got to Cincy of all places. Think about that: the guy went from the place where all the "experts" said was ideal for him to succeed...and he failed. Then he goes to a place where they were known as a passing team...and he's been great. Danny Woodhead was cut three times and ends up with the Pats. Sometimes its just getting the right situation.

Now, about Davis. I don't know about his time spen in Cleveland and why it just didn't work there but I do remember two things:

1)He kept CJ Spiller on the bench for a good portion of his career.

2)The kid can catch out fo the backfield and that's something that a lot of teams like in their COP back. The Packers utilize the screen a lot (or used to when they had Grant).

I wouldn't think it would be crazy to see Davis in Green Bay, Seattle, New England, Denver, Jacksonville, Atlanta, or a couple of spots.

Because it was working. Jackson (sorry for the error, have the pre-game MNF on) had a 4 yard average on 13 carries vs. the Vikings. I agree, that's not earth shattering, but it was effective enough to warrant more carries... The Pack is a passing team, no doubt, but it's going to get harder to throw the ball 40 times in a couple of weeks.

I think Brandon Jackson has really taken a step forward the last few games. McCarthy is terrible at play calling. They need to just commit to the run. Jackson had 18 carries the first game of the season. Since then, his most was 13, which came last night. I don't think people are giving him enough credit. Grant averaged 4.4 yards per carry last year. So far this year, Jackson is averaging 4.5.

Can he play on the D line?Because with how Jackson has looked recently plus the problems elsewhere...we don't need another inexperienced hyped up guy with a not great injury history.

It's shocking to me how people would think a team as thin at RB as Cleveland is would release a player capable of starting anywhere in the NFL. Same thing happened with Keiland Williams - and he cleared waivers.

Yes, and the Broncos released Torain, and the Broncos traded Hillis for a ham sandwich, and the Bears released Ced Benson, and the Jets released Woodhead, and the Seahawks and Colts both released Forsett before Seattle re-signed him, and the Cardinals, Bears, and Jets all have released Thomas Jones. And that's just currently active RBs. It's not a perfect science.

McCarthy just understands what he has in Jackson. He's not a power back that you ride, but he is a guy that can excel against spread out pass defenses. That average you mention is a result of the way McCarthy uses him.
