Building a case for Nate Washington (1 Viewer)

Don't see much talk about this guy at all . . .

He has 166 yards through two games (83.0 per game)

He has 13 catches trough two games (6.5 per game) - good for 14th in the NFL . . .

His catch rate is 72% through two games - over the last three years it was only about 50% . . .

He has played in 117 of 127 snaps (92%) through two games (Pro Football Focus). . .

He has 18 total targets (Rotoworld) - the only other #2 receivers with more are:

Deion Branch (NE) 19

David Nelson (Buf) 19

that's it . . .

He has a DYAR rannking of 28 (out of 83 receivers) (Footballoutsiders.com)

yes this is stats heavy, but he also plays with an underrated QB Hasselbeck, who just torched a Ravens D that basically shut down the Steelers 12 days ago . . . now they get a Broncos defense without Bailey AND they get them at home - this is a Broncos defense that was ripped up by a QB (Dalton) with only one career start . . .

I am starting Washington on Sunday (along with Kenny Britt) . . .

I think Washington is a paper tiger. He always seems to flash this type of potential for 2-4 stretches here and there, but then something always happens.

i thought that at first, and that's why I left him on waivers . . . still, who has he had at QB at Tennessee?? Collins and Vince Young . . .

Do honestly think he has upside? His production the last five years - his 2nd through 4th season as a Steeler, and two years in Music City - have remarkably similar. Consistently mediocre, average talent small college WR who could never take it to the next level. What's different this year...Hass?

Huh.

I like Tennessee to be better than expected, but I don't see Nate being the critical cog. Or a highly productive WR2. I think he is what he is: 45-650-5, give or take 5%.

again, I hear you - I didnt pick him up til a few minutes ago - still with stats like that, SOMETHING has changed . . .

I dismissed him like you did for all the same reasons, but "maybe" he is finally there . . . he was actually a decent WR3 in his last year at Pit, and again the QB situation is much better now than when Young and Collins were behind center - also, it looks like Munchak is letting Hass throw it - that also helps . . .

A bit of a poor man's 2010 Brandon Lloyd, with some upside. Not really looking to deal for the guy, but I'm glad I have him on my 12-WR FBG contest team. It would not surprise me if he finished top 25 this year.

I was forced to dig for a WR after Austin and Manningham went down . . . hope the contest works out well for you . . .

havent checked or recall but......

- has he had a wr opposite him that is talented as Britt?

- a rb as talented as cj2k to keep defenses honest?(even tho cj aint showing much now).

- or has he had a qb like hass? (better "passer" than VY or collins?)

i think as long as britt is playing at the high level he is... nate can benefit (especially ppr)

kinda a very poor mans version of megatron and the other Nate (burleson)???

good points . . .

he was on tenn last year when CJ was great, and love him or hate him but collins throws a good deep ball (nate's specialty)but i'd take a flyer on him (and might still depending on how this jerome simspon biz plays out.

maybe the reason is hass then.... hass isnt considered an elite qb but maybe he's just that much more of an accurate and smart qb. that and the combo of britt, cj and now hass.

I agree that he is being overlooked. When you look at a guy like Henderson (who many are bullish on), I don't really see what has changed over the last few years for the light to finally turn on. When you look at a guy like Washington, you now have a running game that is struggling, the best passing QB he has had in Tenn and a new head coach. I look for those type of changes when I am going to pounce on someone. I needed a QB in one league with Simpson having his "issue", and feel fortunate to get Washington. Even a guy like David Nelson had Evans vacated which created a new opportunity...I really think when looking at these breakout candidates, you have to look at changes in the organization as a main indicator of sudden player success.

I think he's worth a flyer...especially in PPR leagues with as many looks as he's getting. Problem is, the coverage that Britt will probably now effect Washington more.

So glad I bought in this week. thank you sir! :banned:

Any observations from his play Sunday once Britt was out? I'll hang up and listen.

NW is not gonna be as open as before but Hasslebeck looks at him ALOT. He played more of the Mike Wallace role the past few years only showing up for bombs and TDs. He seems to have grown as a receiver now and is getting looks all over the field. Hope he keeps up this pace.

he is not this years Miles Austin by any stretch, but I think he's a legit WR3 and i thought that BEFORE Britt went out . . . since some of us in this thread got him for nothing, its a bargain (especially for me since I had Britt) . . .

he must have worked on his catching over the summer - his career catch rate before this year was below 50% (i think) now this year it's around 70% . . . small sample size I know but still something is different . . .

Could it be that they have a more legit quarterback than in the past previous years?

I had him last year and thought that when Britt went out that he would benefit. This is what happened.

Wk10 vs Miami 9 targets 3 for 26 1TD

Wk11 vs Wash 9 targets 5 for 117 0TD

Wk12 vs HOU 4 targets 1 for 10 0TD

Wk13 vs JAX 6 targets 3 for 40 0TD

He's just not a WR 1. Maybe it will be a different story with Hasselbeck, but I wouldn't count on it.

he had Big Ben in Pittsburgh and his Catch rate was just as bad . . .

he is different this year . . . maybe some don't believe it but I do - will he put up Britt numbers? of course not, but he can put up numbers similar to what he did yesterday . . .

My concern as well. I picked up Washington last week off waivers. I actually liked him more w/ Britt drawing coverage on the other side. Now I'm thinking Jared Cook will finally have consistent fantasy relevance.

Don't bring up Cook - I drafted him as my TE2 and he isn't doing jack . . . Stevens (probably) is getting more passes thrown his way - Cook must have blocking issues (or playbook issues) . . .

didn't see it - can't afford the ticket this year . . .
How to get 'THE TICKET' for FREE... :shark: Call Customer Service, ask for supervisor, explain to supervisor really wanted 'The Ticket', but can't afford anything anymore & going to basic cable (nicely threaten to cancel everything), now keep quiet...

They will: 1) Offer ticket for discount or FREE or 2) Proceed to cancel...

If they: Offer discount ask for FREE, if not FREE tell them you'll think about it (hang-up) & TRY AGAIN (REPEAT)

If they: Proceed to cancel, tell them you'll think about it (hang-up) & TRY AGAIN (REPEAT)

I guarantee you will not have to call 10 times & will get 'The Ticket' for FREE (should take less that an hour) :pickle: :pickle: :pickle:

he's had to ok weeks since my last post plus the bye week . . .

he's averaging almost eight targets a game over the season . . .

let's see what he can go against Houston, who is giving up 82 yards a game to #1 wideouts (according to profootballoutsiders.com) . . .

guy is WR #17 in our league's rankings, but he is very inconsistent - he had a big game last week - I hope he can follow that up with another good game vs the Bucs this Sunday.

he's still at #17 for the season, and he has gotten almost no ink. Damian Williams has gotten alot more love, but FootballOutsiders.com has Williams as clearly inferior to Washington. Even when Britt comes back, I think that Washington is still a WR3 next year. That is where he was even before Britt got hurt.

Dropped Mike Williams for Nate this week. Just a heads up that my luck with WRs has blown this season so if Washington stinks up the joint this week despite the crazy good matchup you'll know why.
