Romo's prospects this week? (1 Viewer)

Last week, Tony Romo played through pain and put up a very weak fantasy performance. Part of that could be attributed to his injury, while you have to also consider the lack of experience with the receivers/O-Line as well.

By the same token, most people who drafted him have a mid-level QB behind him. Some of us (I have Sanchez for instance), played their backup last week and benefited. Others decided to wait it out on Romo and ended up getting burned.

So, Romo owners, are you willing to start him this week? He is a week removed from the injury...but he still has the same O-Line and WR issues.

Personally, I'm going to roll with him, but I can't say that I'm confident about my decision.

I have Fitzpatrick behind him and will be starting him this week and wait for Austin to get healthy after Romos bye.

I'll ride the Amish Rifle till he runs out of ammo.

I don't know. I have Henne behind him. Not a great matchup for Henne...might just go with my starter and hope it gets better.

I really wish he would sit and be healthy coming out of the bye but that doesn't look like it's going to happen. I got lucky last week and started Mark Sanchez over him. This week, I've decided to start Grossman over him and I'm hoping Romo doesn't get killed by SUH this week. Hell, I'd even consider Jason Campbell vs an awful NE secondary over him after seeing how poor the Cowboys receivers/Oline looked against the skins. I would hate to start Romo and have him get knocked out mid game.

Agree with the sit him part, as well as Grossman (Who I currently have plugged in).Till he gets back Austin and Bryant can come back to health, after the bye, I will likely be keeping him on the bench. With Witten as the only real threat, his arsenal is too bleak to risk the possibility of another 250 yard/0 TD game. Get well soon Dallas.

Running Eli this week over him.

* O-line is pitiful. Say what you want about Orakpo beating Free but I saw the backup beat him as well. And he's supposed to be their best.

* His one good WR is Bryant and he's on one good leg. The rest would barely make most rosters. I see plenty of potential for miscommunication when the pressure comes. That means interceptions and/or fumbles.

* On the other hand, the D is getting much better and the running game started to show some promise. I see lots of screens, dump offs and quick outs. Not fantasy gold.

It may get worse before it gets better IMO.

In the only league I own him, starting Romo w/ confidence this week (backup is Newton @ Bears anyway). He'll throw a lot of quick hitters, keep the chains moving. His YPA will probably be low, but I still see him w/ a 280/2 kind of game easily. Detroit's defensive front is scary, but the rest of that unit? Meh...

unless you have two top 10 qb's I think you gotta play him
 I've sat him so far both weeks 1 and 3 for Cutler. Now I am admittedly prone to play matchups even with my studs--but in this case with him hurt it's a no brainer to me, at least until after the bye. With my league's scoring Detroit is the #1 defense against QB's with #23 Carolina playing at Chitown. I'll be starting Cutler again.

I benched him last week for Colt McCoy(I dropped Bradford for him) because I did not want to get a zero. This week I dropped McCoy and picked up Campbell and will start him over Romo. with Romo still hurting and the Lions being the 2nd best against the pass and Campbell facing the easiest team to pass on it is just the perfect storm.

If he would of never got hurt though I would of not benched him once.

Detroit has faced the following QBs thus far:

Josh Freeman

Matt Cassel

Donovan McNabb

Gee, wonder why they're ranked so high vs. the pass.....

Jason Campbell will be taking 1st team snaps in MOP's practices this week, Romo will be a game time decision.
We park our cars in the same garage on this one ... but now Campbell listed as questionable with a bum foot? Nice matchup next week vs. Cleveland for Campbell as well (Romo's bye week)... might have to get Romo back on first team snaps, MOP ...

We can play a 2nd QB as flex and I have Romo, Grossman and Kolb. Right now I have Romo & Grossman in but debating between Romo and Kolb. Neither have good matchups but Kolb has better receivers and is healthy. Tough decision.

These injuries are making me thirsty

Going with Big Ben over Romo; but I don't feel great about it.Wish they would rest Romo; and work on his O-line; or at least work on his O-line.
The Steelers running game is in shambles right now and they are going to need to put some points on the board against the Texans. I think Roethlisberger is a pretty good play this week.

Dez should be better this week. That should help a good bit. Robinson has another week to learn the playbook. That should also help.

But as a Cowboy fan, I have serious, serious concerns about the Lions DL against the Boys' OL. Suh is likely to absolutely destroy rookie 7th rounder Bill Nagy. Complete and total mis-match in the middle. This DL/OL matchup strongly reminds me of the Minny/Dallas playoff game a couple years ago. Minny's DL completely dominated Dallas's OL. The same could easily happen Sunday.

Of course, I've felt rather negative going into each of the last 3 games and Dallas won 2. So I may be off base. But I'm very concerned about this. Even moreso than matching up to Megatron.

I don't think the Lions are that good against the pass. As shown above they have played some of the worst pass offenses so far and they were dismal last year. Also, while Romo wasn't great (I started Sanchez as a lot of Romo owners did) remember with all the mistakes they had, they kicked 6 FGs. They had tons of scoring opportunities. They got to Washington's 20 yard line 3 times and inside the 10 twice. If the WRs knew where to go and the center knew when to snap it, he could easily have 2+ TDs. I don't know if that will improve a lot, but Bryant should be a week healthier and Felix looked better, so I would hope they would convert a few more opportunities.

I think Romo will be fine this week, but like last week, if you have a decent backup option it isn't a bad idea to bench him. It will be after the bye when Austin is back and Bryant/Jones should be 100% healthy that Romo is definitely back to a top QB option. If Sanchez wasn't playing Baltimore I would bench Romo in a heartbeat.

I'm doing the same thing.Romo can be top-3 with everybody healthy, but it's just too risky to start him now when I have another top option. That allows me to wait until after the bye when I know everybody in Dallas is 100%.

Anyone with insight into Dallas' O-line problems? Is this a year-long thing or is there any help on the way?

I imagine if most knew the situation was still this dire, he might not have been drafted as high as he probably was.

The biggest problem is LG where rookie 7th rounder Nagy is starting. Dallas has tried at least 5 guys there since the beginning of camp. Dallas signed Derrick Dockery at the start of the season to play that spot, but he got injured and won't play against the Lions. Nagy will likely be decent in time, but he really needs a year in the strength program. Against average DL, he'll be ok. But against a monster like Suh, its a major mismatch.Doug Free at LT was the best OL last year for the team. He looked like a very good LT with upside. They gave him a nice extention this offseason. And he's regressed this year, playing with sloppy technique. Now, he did play better late against the Skins. So there's hope that he gets it back to normal. Is he trying to help cover for the rookie next to him? Does he miss the experienced vet, Kosier next to him like he had last year? He has played much better in the past and its expected that he'll return to that level.Costa at center is a 2nd year guy. He was much better than Gurode in the preseason, leading to the latter's release. Costa then hurt his knee which cost him parts or all of a couple of games this season. He's not 100%. And still learning. He should be good in time. But today, he's a mismatch against the Lion's front.RG is vet Kosier. He's the glue of the line. He'll be solid.RT is 1st roudn pick Tyron Smith. He's been their best lineman this year despite hurting his knee prior to the first game. His mobility is improving with his knee health and knowledge. Even with these issues, he's been above average. And expected to get even better. We all knew Dallas' line would be in transition this year. Its got 3 guys with minimal experience starting. And its expected that they will improve. But this Sunday, against an excellent Lions front, its a mis-match.

Thanks for the great insight. I guess it's time to pick up a backup.

What are you talking about? Campbell plays @ HOU during Romo's bye.

Good Info. Thanks. What about the Center snapping the ball early so many times. I saw him do it once or twice in the 1st or 2nd games. I heard that the Skins signed a former Cowboy (in preseason) and stole some signal calls. Also, seen it in other games with other teams. I understand the Ref is lining up in a different spot and can't "hear" what's going on with the OL and DL prior to ball snap. Can they correct this asap?

Don't sell Cutler short. He could easily be top 10 this year. I'm in the same boat as you and I've actually rolled with Cutler the same weeks you did. Right now Cutler is QB12-13, I believe, in most leagues behind the likes of Sanchez, Henne, Flacco, and Newton. As things normalize, I expect Cutler to rise to the top. He's averaging 286 ypg @ 7.5 ypa despite his completion % taking an abnormal dip 7% below his career average. His yards per completion is up to 13.8 from 12.5 last year. This is all to say, in my eyes, you do have two top 10 QBs. Start the healthy one with confidence and enjoy.

Because their front 4 scare the piss out of opposing QB's, O Coordinators, and OL. Freeman is supposed to be a real up and comer, McNabb is a vet, and Cassel is what he is. It doesn't matter who they played, they get a push up the middle that most teams don't. Their DL is why they rank high vs. the pass. Garrett is having nightmares. I'd have to guess a lot more of the quick pass dump offs for Tony this week. They showed no confidence in their OL against Washington, nor should they have.
The Steelers running game is in shambles right now and they are going to need to put some points on the board against the Texans. I think Roethlisberger is a pretty good play this week.
I agree with this and I'm rolling with Ben over Romo. I just hope Romo doesn't get hurt worse this week. He can then sit for a bye week and come back relatively healthy in week 6, hopefully starting for me every week after with his full compliment of weapons.

My view: Romo is a guy to bench this week if you have another decent option. A shot that rib area could take him out and his WRs are all hurting.

I think this may be Romo's worst week of the season. The schedule gets much better after their week 5 bye. All his skill guys are hurt. He's hurt. A couple of OL are hurt. The lion's beast of a front. None of this is good news for this week.Romo's value is week 6 and beyond.

Romo got hit a ton vs WASH and came out just fine. His poor stats were due to horid WR performance (the OL crappiness goes w/o saying). With another week of Romo healing, OL/WR coaching and group hugs, he'll put up top 10 stats this sunday in a probable shootout. Starting him over Newton and Kolb.

Romo is gonna get popped and be on his back most of the game when the fury of Suh, Williams, avril, vandenbosch swarm him. Lions will win romo has pedestrian game imo.

I'm benching both him and Dez again this week--just hope he doesn't get that rib shot so the healing can continue through the bye.

Do the numbers that Romo and Campbell but up agianst the Jets respectively not bother you? I would pump the breaks with Campbell, he put up numbers against Buffalo and Denver, just like everyone else (with the exception of Matt Cassel, who is part of the reason that Det is #1 against the pass). Romo isn't going to Wow anyone on sunday, but his numbers aren't going to be a repeat of last week. He will be in the top ten, Campbell may be in the top 20.

It has alot to do with their defensive line being so good they can drop more men back into coverage. it is why they are not that well ranked against the run despite that being their strength. That being said I agree those teams are weak passers, but Romo did not look comfortable last week and I am willing to wait another week on him myself when I have Campbell facing a horrible N.E. pass defense.

one good pop in the first quarter and he's out of the game.

i'm a cowboys homer and would've rather lost to the skins than risk further damage. the o-line will get better but against the lions agressive defensive front, it could be ugly. fantasy/skill position wise, i would look elsewhere this week unless you have witten and maybe dez.

not to mention our receivers having to be coached on where to line up after breaking the huddle monday night. a week more of practice should help those guys but its still a sticky situation, imo.

/having said all that, he'll probably throw for 300 yds and a pair of TDs.

You say this "I would pump the breaks with Campbell, he put up numbers against Buffalo and Denver, just like everyone else ". well, everyone has put up even better numbers on N.E. SO ?

Romo's turning into this generation's Brett Favre with his toughness. I expect a good performance.
He might have a good performance but I could not disgree more with you comparing him to Brett Favre. I don't even think the guy is a good QB. I just think he is a good fantasy QB.
