You are talking about the team tied with the most SB wins ever 5 second in appearances 7, vs Arizona who is getting there for the first time ever and nobody gave a chance to get outa the first round of the playoffs. I got much respect for Arizona but this would be a big upset, yes or no. History does mean a lot, the franchises with the history and know how of getting to the big game have an advantage I would think.

Were you born after last year's Super Bowl by any chance? That quite an accomplishment to be able to read and write at such a young age.

I vote not top five. Arizona has looked more impressive than Pittsburgh so far in the playoffs. The line should be about Pit -4.

giants - patspats - ramscolts - jetsthis wouldn't even be close to those 3
 We're talking about an underdog with a WR who's considered to be the best in the game right now who just happens to have a former MVP and Super Bowl champion QB tossing the ball to him. Throw in a guy who's ranked 11th in career rushing yards and a young CB who's already being touted as one of the best. Plenty of experience/talent at the skill positions at AZ.And wasn't AZ the first team to qualify for the playoffs?

Not even in the ballpark.

Ridiculous passing offense against a banged up secondary with questionable talent apart from Polamalu?

Not hard to imagine them pulling it off.

Heck, I think Arizona will cover, if not necessarily win. They have already beaten some very strong defenses to get here.

It's not even close to 2007 Giants or 2001 Pats.

Come on not one of you guys when the playoffs started thought that the Cardinals would even sniff the Super Bowl while Pitt was the favorite imo to make it there. Tenn Balt and Pitt are the same team minus that Pitt has Big Ben. That made them the favs. This is an upset and pretty big if they pull it of. I am rooting for them to do it.

Irrelevant. We know more about both teams than we did a month ago.

:lmao: I voted for 2 of the 5 choices (the choices running away with this poll).

This would not even be the biggest upset in the last 2 years so it is easy to answer no to the poll.

Several upsets over the years at least as big as this would be and some of them have been mentioned already. Is the OP even aware of superbowl history and aware of some of the larger upsets?

Um, the 5 SB appearances vs zero SB appearances are pretty irrelevant, unless you think Bradshaw et al will suit up against Hart and Co. Using dopey historical stats like that makes no sense at all. We are talking about the 2008/9 Steelers vs. the 2008/9 Cardinals and that's all. The largeness of the upset has only to do with how these teams played this year, and no, this would not be an upset of historical proportions. It is a 9-7 division winner vs a 12-4 division winner who was a #2 seed. The spread is only 6 1/2, hardly a monster upset. Just because in your mind it would be huge doesn't make it so in fact.

When Bud Light first beat Bud, it was a bigger upset than a Zona win would be. Bud was the King of All Beers at the time. No way were they going to lose that one. A Zone win wouldn't be in the top 10 of SB upsets. It wouldn't even be in the top 20 upsets of pro or college football played, regular season or postseason, since Jan 1 2008.

At this point, it's 12-7 vs. 14-4.I'd like to see Bradshaw line up against Jim Hart. It's sad that this is the oldest franchise in the NFL and in their entire history the best they've seen is two years from Neil Lomax, two years from Kurt Warner, five years from Jim Hart and a half century of mediocre (or worse) QB play.

When the playoffs began, Giants were the favorites to win SB at 2/1, followed by Titans at 5/2 and Steelers at 4/1. So, Steelers weren't even the favorites in their own conference according to the books, who do this for a living. I'd put more weight on that than on your opinion as to who the favorite was. Too much hyperbole from you IMO. It's a nice matchup, but no big deal historically if Zona wins.

Only to the extent it is the same players. So, several of the Steelers playing in the game a few years ago have an advantage, but so does Kurt Warner. The experience of players and coaches who played decades ago will not help this year's Steelers.ETA - Is there an early line on the game yet?

I think the OP's issue here is that he's comparing where the two teams were when they entered the playoffs. The Cardinals were a 9-7 also-ran that was reeling and had limped to the end of the season. The Steelers were easily one of the top 3 teams in the NFL and had the highest-rated defense across the board and a former Super Bowl winning QB.

If you could have matched the two teams up at THAT point, Pittsburgh is probably a double digit favorite and Arizona would have been given no shot. But after beating Minnesota, Carolina, and Philly in such convincing fashion (at times dominant), the Cardinals are obviously not a 9-7 also-ran anymore. They're not who we thought they were, and the difference between the two teams isn't as enormous as we thought three weeks ago.

Interesting view. The Steelers have beaten two of the hottest teams in the playoffs. San Diego won five in a row coming into their game with Pittsburgh and lost by 11. Baltimore won 7 of their last 8 coming into the AFC Championship and lost by 9.

Before the Cardinals played them, the Falcons had won 5 of their last 6, the Panthers 4 of 5 and the Eagles 6 of 7.It's certainly a debatable point either way.

Line is 6.5. It would be the seventh larget upset according to the betting line in SB history if Arizona won.

What was the spread for that match? About 7-8 hot dogs?

You can make a borderline case for top 5, but it's very clearly below the Jets in SB3, the Broncos in SB32, the Patriots in SB36, and the Giants in SB42.

From there, I suppose the argument is between it and SB4 between the Chiefs and Vikings and SB25 between the Giants and the Bills based on the spreads above. I wasn't around for Chiefs-Vikings, but I could see it at least making the argument. :bag: :goodposting:

Also, :lmao: at the 49ers being 18.5 favorites in 1994! Forgot the line was that high.
