You are fired.....as soon as your replacements are trained (1 Viewer)

I was on a job similar to this where the entire project was moving to Huntsville, Alabama and since no one on the project in their right mind wanted to move there, they ended up having to replace everyone. They asked everyone not to seek out new jobs or projects until they could get the replacements trained, and everyone was like "#### you, don't move the project then". Sometimes management doesn't think things out very well.

We did this last year. Closed an office at another location and the whole project went over to my team so we all had to learn it before everybody bailed. Big pain in the ### when you have to learn something very important and complex from a bunch of short timers.

Then of course the decision makers forget about what a radical decision they made when things don't go quite right with the new team. Just a crappy situation for everybody who was let go and remaining.

This happened to an FBG I know and that shall remain nameless. They gave him a nice compensation package, but that still must have been tough.

Pretty common these days, I believe. Our company did it a few years ago. They told people that they would not be given their severance package if they did not train their replacements in India.

The workers had a no strike clause but walked out anyway. It does suck, but that's the way company vs. union stuff usually works out.

Not only that, but if you are laid off you can collect unemployment. If you quit, you can't. Not totally sure how that plays out if you quit after you've been informed you're being fired or laid off though.

This situation seems a bit weird though in that they're being informed that they're being fired, but not until replacements are found. If they won't be able to collect unemployment because they're being fired, I see little reason for them not to just walk out now.
