Pretty bad, at first glance.Jets win at #3 is a joke that continues the Joe Namath mythology. It was a horrifically boring game, and poorly played.Elway's first win at 11 is too low. Pats win over Rams at 10 should be much higher than their win over the Panthers at 7 (which is way too high).

I agree on the Jets/Colts. It may have been the most important Super Bowl but it was nowhere near the best. I always want to put Rams/Titans higher because of the ending, but the first half wasn't that great.Saints/Colts is ridiculously low. That was an awesome back-and-forth game until the pick-6 near the end.

46. Super Bowl XXIV – San Francisco 49ers 55, Denver Broncos 1045. Super Bowl IV – Kansas City Chiefs 23, Minnesota Vikings 744. Super Bowl XI – Oakland Raiders 32, Minnesota Vikings 1443. Super Bowl XXIX – San Francisco 49ers 49, San Diego Chargers 2642. Super Bowl VIII – Miami Dolphins 24, Minnesota Vikings 741. Super Bowl IX – Pittsburgh Steelers 16, Minnesota Vikings 6
Not much to quibble about here; all four of the Vikings SB squads got dominated in the big game, and 49ers blowouts were boring unless you're a fan.
40. Super Bowl XLI – Indianapolis Colts 29, Chicago Bears 1739. Super Bowl XXXV – Baltimore Ravens 34, New York Giants 738. Super Bowl XII – Dallas Cowboys 27, Denver Broncos 1037. Super Bowl XXXVII – Tampa Bay Buccaneers 48, Oakland Raiders 2136. Super Bowl XL – Pittsburgh Steelers 21, Seattle Seahawks 1035. Super Bowl XXVI – Washington Redskins 37, Buffalo Bills 2434. Super Bowl I – Green Bay Packers 35, Kansas City Chiefs 1033. Super Bowl XXVII – Dallas Cowboys 52, Buffalo Bills 1732. Super Bowl XV – Oakland Raiders 27, Philadelphia Eagles 1031. Super Bowl XXXIII – Denver Broncos 34, Atlanta Falcons 19
My only issue is SB I - it was 14-10 at the half, and the resurrection of Max McGee was a good story line.
30. Super Bowl XXII – Washington Redskins 42, Denver Broncos 1029. Super Bowl XVIII – Los Angeles Raiders 38, Washington Redskins 928. Super Bowl VI – Dallas Cowboys 24, Miami Dolphins 327. Super Bowl II – Green Bay Packers 33, Oakland Raiders 1426. Super Bowl XIX – San Francisco 49ers 38, Miami Dolphins 1625. Super Bowl V – Baltimore Colts 16, Dallas Cowboys 1324. Super Bowl VII – Miami Dolphins 14, Washington Redskins 723. Super Bowl XX – Chicago Bears 46, New England Patriots 1022. Super Bowl XXI – New York Giants 39, Denver Broncos 2021. Super Bowl XXVIII – Dallas Cowboys 30, Buffalo Bills 13
I wouldn't rank the Redskins blow out that low. Denver jumped out 10-0 - is that still the biggest SB comeback ever? - and Timmy Smith had a historic day. 35 points in the 2nd quarter was jaw dropping. Boring second half, but there was a heck of a lot to like.Super Bowl V had a boatload of turnovers and penalties - very messy, poorly played game. The rookie WR-K (Jim O'brien?) kicked a game winner with 5 seconds left, but gawd that was a lousy contest. SB VII was a lot more lopside than you can imagine. Redskins never threatened. They got a late TD when Garo Yepremium threw a half-### ball squirting out of his hand interception during a botched FG attempt - should have been the first and only shutout. Why is the Bears blowout ranked higher than other blowouts that were equally one-sided?
20. Super Bowl XXXI – Green Bay Packers 35, New England Patriots 2119. Super Bowl XXXIX – New England Patriots 24, Philadelphia Eagles 2118. Super Bowl XVII – Washington Redskins 27, Miami Dolphins 1717. Super Bowl XXX – Dallas Cowboys 27, Pittsburgh Steelers 1716. Super Bowl XLVI – New York Giants 21, New England Patriots 1715. Super Bowl XLV – Green Bay Packers 31, Pittsburgh Steelers 2514. Super Bowl XLIV – New Orleans Saints 31, Indianapolis Colts 1713. Super Bowl XVI – San Francisco 49ers 26, Cincinnati Bengals 2112. Super Bowl X – Pittsburgh Steelers 21, Dallas Cowboys 1711. Super Bowl XXXII – Denver Broncos 31, Green Bay Packers 24
I might bump up the Saints, that was a close game until Peyton choked and threw the pick 6 to Tracey Porter.Super Bowl X had some really spectacular plays.
10. Super Bowl XXXVI – New England Patriots 20, St. Louis Rams 179. Super Bowl XLIII – Pittsburgh Steelers 27, Arizona Cardinals 238. Super Bowl XXXIV – St. Louis Rams 23, Tennessee TItans 167. Super Bowl XXXVIII – New England Patriots 32, Carolina Panthers 296. Super Bowl XIV – Pittsburgh Steelers 31, Los Angeles Rams 195. Super Bowl XXIII – San Francisco 49ers 20, Cincinnati Bengals 164. Super Bowl XXV – New York Giants 20, Buffalo Bills 193. Super Bowl III – New York Jets 16, Baltimore Colts 72. Super Bowl XLII – New York Giants 17, New England Patriots 141. Super Bowl XIII – Pittsburgh Steelers 35, Dallas Cowboys 31
Jets game should be middle of the pack or low 30s - lousy game.I don't get it - seems like the Tackle by Mike Jones should be topping this list, or 2nd to Santonio Holmes toe tapping with seconds left (and man did Fitz have a great run that year!). 49ers last second win would be #4 for me - probably go with Eli to Tyree at #3.Their pick for #1 saw Pittsburgh score on back to back plays (squib kick after Franco's TD run was fumbled by Randy White, broken hand in a cast). That made it 35-17 with 7 minutes left. The score that made the final tight came with 22 seconds left, and they didn't recover the onside. Writers always overrate that game.

39. Super Bowl XXXV – Baltimore Ravens 34, New York Giants 7

38. Super Bowl XII – Dallas Cowboys 27, Denver Broncos 10

37. Super Bowl XXXVII – Tampa Bay Buccaneers 48, Oakland Raiders 21...I loved it

36. Super Bowl XL – Pittsburgh Steelers 21, Seattle Seahawks 10

35. Super Bowl XXVI – Washington Redskins 37, Buffalo Bills 24

34. Super Bowl I – Green Bay Packers 35, Kansas City Chiefs 10

33. Super Bowl XXVII – Dallas Cowboys 52, Buffalo Bills 17

32. Super Bowl XV – Oakland Raiders 27, Philadelphia Eagles 10

31. Super Bowl XXXIII – Denver Broncos 34, Atlanta Falcons 19

30. Super Bowl XXII – Washington Redskins 42, Denver Broncos 10...Big day for African Americans as Doug Williams becomes the 1st black QB to win a SB.

29. Super Bowl XVIII – Los Angeles Raiders 38, Washington Redskins 9...Was fun to watch Marcus run wild but the game was a blowout

28. Super Bowl VI – Dallas Cowboys 24, Miami Dolphins 3...Blowout

27. Super Bowl II – Green Bay Packers 33, Oakland Raiders 14...Blowout

26. Super Bowl XIX – San Francisco 49ers 38, Miami Dolphins 16...Did not live up to the hype, game was over at halftime.

25. Super Bowl V – Baltimore Colts 16, Dallas Cowboys 13...Exciting game given the era it was played, lot of bone crunching hits on both sides.

24. Super Bowl VII – Miami Dolphins 14, Washington Redskins 7...Perfect end to the perfect season, certainly in my top 5 of all time.

23. Super Bowl XX – Chicago Bears 46, New England Patriots 10...If you liked watching the Pats get drummed this was a good game

22. Super Bowl XXI – New York Giants 39, Denver Broncos 20...Big game for the Giants, SB victory No 1 for the nations most recognizable city...sorry Jets

21. Super Bowl XXVIII – Dallas Cowboys 30, Buffalo Bills 13...Absolute stinker

20. Super Bowl XXXI – Green Bay Packers 35, New England Patriots 21...Until GB pulled away late this was a pretty awesome Super Bowl with a lot of big plays.

19. Super Bowl XXXIX – New England Patriots 24, Philadelphia Eagles 21...None of the Pats Super Bowls have ever really been pretty and NE had a 10 point lead for much of the 4th

18. Super Bowl XVII – Washington Redskins 27, Miami Dolphins 17...Washington pulled away in the 2nd half and Miami realy had little to no offense in the game.

17. Super Bowl XXX – Dallas Cowboys 27, Pittsburgh Steelers 17...The Larry Brown SB featured 2 premier teams but the game was not all that great...Neil O'Donnell

16. Super Bowl XLVI – New York Giants 21, New England Patriots 17...Anytime Brady can lose a SB I'm a fan.

15. Super Bowl XLV – Green Bay Packers 31, Pittsburgh Steelers 25...Green Bay won this game?

14. Super Bowl XLIV – New Orleans Saints 31, Indianapolis Colts 17...The country was happy for the people in New Orleans.

13. Super Bowl XVI – San Francisco 49ers 26, Cincinnati Bengals 21...Are you kidding me? This was mostly a blowout until Cinci made it close late, game never in doubt.

12. Super Bowl X – Pittsburgh Steelers 21, Dallas Cowboys 17...It was a terrific game back and forth, amazing acrobatic catches, for the era this was awesome.

11. Super Bowl XXXII – Denver Broncos 31, Green Bay Packers 24...This would be in my top 5 for sure. It was an amazing game, Elway Heli was a moment forever.

10. Super Bowl XXXVI – New England Patriots 20, St. Louis Rams 17...Only interesting because of the FG heroics, otherwise the offenses were non existent much of the game.

9. Super Bowl XLIII – Pittsburgh Steelers 27, Arizona Cardinals 23...I really enjoyed this one and was rooting for Warner this time around.

8. Super Bowl XXXIV – St. Louis Rams 23, Tennessee TItans 16...Overrated for me, the final drive would not have won the game, merely pushed OT, defensive struggle.

7. Super Bowl XXXVIII – New England Patriots 32, Carolina Panthers 29...Way too high, this game was a snooze fest until late in the game, rather bland game.

6. Super Bowl XIV – Pittsburgh Steelers 31, Los Angeles Rams 19...Seems pretty high but Pitt capped off 4 SB and the first to team to win Back to Back titles twice.

5. Super Bowl XXIII – San Francisco 49ers 20, Cincinnati Bengals 16...One of my favorites although I was rooting against Joe.

4. Super Bowl XXV – New York Giants 20, Buffalo Bills 19...The country was on its head because of the War in Iraq and the ME, the game had a lot of drama

3. Super Bowl III – New York Jets 16, Baltimore Colts 7...Historical because Joe Namath guaranteed a win and the AFL was finally a full fledged part of the NFL.

2. Super Bowl XLII – New York Giants 17, New England Patriots 14...This was huge because the Pats were undefeated but if the Pats had come in with a 14-2 record it's not likely as interesting.

1. Super Bowl XIII – Pittsburgh Steelers 35, Dallas Cowboys 31...It's hard to argue against this but certainly others are worthy of consideration

Jets win at #3 is a joke that continues the Joe Namath mythology. It was a horrifically boring game, and poorly played.
:goodposting: And I know I am biased, but Broncos/Packers should be top 3. Back and forth the whole game, never boring, the Elway trying to finally win one angle, the AFC finally winning one, etc. Hard to top that. Rams/Titans and Pats/Rams had great 4th quarters, but weren't that great before that.

The Pittsburgh/Seattle SB was one of the worst imo. Aside from questionable calls/non-calls, it just didn't seem like we were seeing inspired performances. Couple of long plays, but pretty boring aside from the controversy. But iirc, that was also the best SB halftime show (Prince).I was at the Buffalo/Giants SB, so that one is special for me. Not a fan of either team, but I was lucky enough to have an opportunity to go and see one live. I honestly didn't care who won; I was just enjoying being there. The fact that both teams brought rabid fans definitely kept the excitement level high.

8. Super Bowl XXXIV – St. Louis Rams 23, Tennessee TItans 16...Overrated for me, the final drive would not have won the game, merely pushed OT, defensive struggle.
There was some really good defense in the first half, and Warner's (MVP) only completion in the 4th quarter was the 73 yarder to Bruce. But remember, it was 16-0 in the third, and the Titans made the biggest comeback in SB history to tie the game before that. That was the dot.com bowl - who could forget the pets.com sock puppet, or e-Trade's dancing chimp ("well we just wasted $2M"). I had just moved to NYC a few weeks before to work for a tech startup, and Warner out of nowhere versus the Music City Miracle mirrored how a lot of us felt at the time - ANYTHING is possible. Helluva game.

You don't. It was the Stones, and as big of a fan as I am of them, they were kind of terrible at the Super Bowl.

9. Super Bowl XLIII – Pittsburgh Steelers 27, Arizona Cardinals 23...I really enjoyed this one and was rooting for Warner this time around.I thought this might be higher just based on the historically great plays (Harrison 100 yard TD at the half and Holmes TD at the end).

My top 5:1. Super Bowl XXV (Bills vs Giants). Great contrast of styles. Physical game beyond belief. Came down to the final play. 2. Super Bowl XLIII (Steelers vs Cards). Three of the most memorable plays in Super Bowl history. Two fantastic comebacks. "The Catch".3. Super Bowl X (Steelers vs Cowboys). Just go back and look at the Lynn Swann catches he made that day. 4. Super Bowl XIII (Steelers vs Cowboys). The Steelers dynasty on full display. Two hall of fame QB's in a duel for the ages. 5. Super Bowl XXIII (49ers vs Bengals). Jerry Rice greatest ever. "The Drive".

OK. My fault for not checking. Prince was so awesome in his Super Bowl performance, I'm subconsciously transporting him to bad games to improve the overall evening.

It wasn't the game-winner, but Fitz' touchdown is one of the most "pure" football plays I've seen. It wasn't a millionaire doing his job, or just a guy executing a play. It was a receiver on a historically-rotten team taking advantage of a play and finding an extra two gears to give his beleaguered team a lead toward the end of the Super Bowl. I've never seen a receiver look so fast. Nobody was going to catch him, angle or not.Just a refresher:

They really like to keep them close.

I was at this game sitting in the end zone that Fitz scored this TD, and I swear he was looking at me (to rub it in that the Cards took the lead) and not the jumbo-screen behind me.It was a great play by the Cards/Fitz, but I think Harrison was supposed to cover the middle of the field. If you watch the wide angle replay that shows the safeties, they both aggressively attacked the out patterns that were run leaving the middle wide open. And Troy hits Harrison on the shoulder pad at about the 15 after Fitz scores. I'm not taking anything away from the Cards/Fitz, but I've also never heard an explanation from the Pitt perspective of who made a mistake on the play (if anyone).

Harrison looks like he's assigned to the RB coming out of the backfield to (see 0:06). Both safeties are covering the sidelines, which appears to be by design. Ike Taylor tries to jam Fitzgerald but Larry is bigger and stronger and gets separation as he makes his cut, so Taylor is well behind the play when Fitz catches it. The aggressive cut upfield and Fitz's speed give the safeties no chance to recover from the sidelines. There's 2:48 left in the game at the start of the play; it seems like double-covering the sidelines isn't the right call, as Arizona has plenty of time to use the whole field, but it looks like Pittsburgh was expecting them to throw sideline routes. I'd put it on the coach, along with Taylor getting beat badly off the jam.

That was a damn good game. Rams were just OK W-L wise and had a rookie QB - and a pretty mediocre one at that. Steelers were heavily favored, but it was 21-19 in the 4th before they put it away. Pretty well played game as I recall it.13-10 Rams at the half. 19-17 Rams after three quarters. A weird stat: the Rams and Steelers led the league in offensive turnovers yet played in the SB.

panthers v patriots was an unbelievable game
There was no way anybody who watched the first half of that game would believe what would happen in the second half. The offensive explosions by both teams - including that huge reception by muhammad - was led by a guy who people at the time thought was just a game manager for a team with a great defense, and the slightly more highly regarded jake delhomme, about whom the same could be said. The emerging dynasty patriots trying to prove that 2001 wasn't a fluke after beating both co mvps in the playoffs, while the scrappy panthers were the youngest franchise to go to a super bowl. The teams were really very similar, and the game was so close that the patriots were lucky to have the ball last. 2001 was the most awestruck I've ever been by a sporting event (except possibly the 2004 red sox), but 2003 might be the best pure game I've ever seen as a fan.

Talk about the evolution of the league...the Steelers had 52 turnovers, Rams 49, and the league average was 38.3.This year, BUF/KC/PHI tied with 37 turnovers, and the league average was 24.

Teams could play defense back then.
