Appliances: need a kitchen (1 Viewer)

All my kitchen appliances are 1999. Stove top just cracked, have no idea how. Anyway time to upgrade going to replace all the kitchen. Stainless steel still the best way to go? Partial to Whirlpool but looking at all options. Wife is dead set waiting to May to buy because of better value.

TIA

I Want to spend no more than 3k on fridge stove and dishwasher. Wife wants to spend 3k just on fridge. HELP.

$2k for frige....$800 for stove...$700 for dishwaher....no value in going above that IMHO unless you are in a super high-end home. Those will get you high-quality stuff without flushing too much down the toilet.

Normal home not extravagant. Kid is gone just me and wife.

We bought last April a whirlpool fridge.. stove ...dishwasher and microwave.

All ss. Would recommend

Currently in the contracting phase of our kitchen remodel. Shopped all options, Best Buy, Sears and local mom and pop stores. Settled on Sears and went with Kenmore based on the huge discounts Sears gives on their house brand. Kenmore is made by either Whirlpool or Frigidaire. Went with stainless steel. Got a French style fridge, glass top electric range, high end dishwasher and over range microwave for $3000 including delivery. Every place else was close to $4000 for anything comparable. Check out Sears online. Fyi, the fridge is made by Frigidaire which has a really nice satin finish that is smudge proof.

We're redoing our kitchen soon. I asked questions in the cooking thread, but they went unanswered so I dug in on my own. We decided on Kitchen Aid. Our kitchen was "fancy" back in 1992, now not so much. Replacing double ovens with a microwave, oven, warming drawer combo, getting a new (larger) gas cooktop, a new fridge and dishwasher. All in, it's about $8000. We looked at "top of the line" and "bargain" brands...ended up in the middle (a little nicer than average). Not sure where you're located, but everything we found was cheaper at local specialized places. Cheaper than the big box stores by $500-$1000.

you should wait for the next holiday sale, then sign up for the no interest for a year.. id get all the same brand

I just bought a full kitchen of GE Slate appliances - a dark gray color. Surprisingly affordable and gets pretty good reviews.

Looks better than stainless to me and no fingerprints. Waaaay better than white or black.

I like that look. Almost like a brushed nickel color.

Yeah. I loved it as soon as I saw it.

Blanco makes a sink that matches too. They call their color truffle.

Shop around! I guess you can tell from the responses that the best deals you find could be anywhere depending on where you live. We just replaced primarily the kitchen cabinets so won't get too much into appliances but for a couple ideas:

-- The French door fridge/freezer that no.4 referred to is a real winner. The newer models have bins and dividers in them so things don't just get buried and lost in the freezers, and the storage flexibility is fantastic. We managed to fit the largest we found.

-- After a couple power outages this winter I'd go with a gas stovetop if you have that option. Personally I've always preferred cooking with gas anyway, feeling like there's better control and instant on/off--but that's a choice where I think I'm in the minority.

-- Given your time to plan and shop--play the sales. Sometimes you can win best with a package deal but it seems there's a lot of competition right now and sales are frequent. That refrigerator I referred to above was marked down about 40%.

Take it for what it's worth, but I have had GE appliances twice now....first were the standard line, the second were the profile line. They SUCKED!!!!! Every single piece I owned had to be worked on at some point while I owned them.

Another vote for Whirlpool. We just bought a fridge, gas stove, and dishwasher for about $2000. 24 month no interest financing through Nebraska Furniture Mart. It was a black friday deal that we just bought online.

We just bought the basic stuff. Nice French Door fridge. A little nicer dishwasher and a standard gas stove. These things are freaking commodities anymore. I just refuse to pay an extra $2000 for digital bells and whistles.

I had the opposite experience. My house came with all GE appliances in 2002. I've been waiting and hoping for them to die because I hated the white color. 12 years later, they're all still fine. I'm moving the old fridge to the garage and giving the microwave and and range to my parents.

Who knows?

I agree with you about the bells and whistles. But last night my wife said this will probably be her last refrigerater throwing the guilt trip on me.

Our house was new in 2004, so you must've gotten hold of appliances before they went down hill ;) I knew the GE repair guy by name (Nathan). He said he had never been more busy.

Are you still liking the GE Gianni? I like the slate look as well. I'm looking for a full set of appliances and it's hard to find a mid priced line with good reviews.

if you have the budget, look into an induction stove top.. awesome!
This! We remodeled about 4 years ago and put in an induction stove top. Absolutely loved it. Then moved into new home about year ago and now have gas cook top. Wish we had our induction back. Might look at a stand-a-lone induction for one or two pans.
