Crash and Walk Away

There was quite a bit of full team scrimmage work. For the 1s:
- In 2 WR sets, as you would expect, Reggie and T.Y. were in for all plays both splitting out wide.
- Reggie was running and cutting as if nothing had happened over the past 9 months.
- Richardson took all snaps as the RB. They ran a high percentage of plays where they got him the ball in space (sweeps and swing passes).
- For 21 personnel packages, Allen was the TE, usually in the slot, though occasionally wide with Reggie in the slot.
- For 12 personnel, Fleener joined the mix, most of the time in a blocking role. Same comment as 21 for Allen positioning.
- For 11 personnel, Nick joined the WRs. He always split out wide with Reggie in the slot. Allen was deployed as a blocker and WR (sometimes outside of Wayne).
- There were no 10 plays run.
- The defensive backs, esp. Toler, displayed a lot of energy. They were taking it very seriously, trying their hardest to disrupt the pass plays and do everything they could to knock the ball out or intercept. Toler has three picks himself. His all out attitude caused him to land awkwardly trying for an interception, and stay down for a prolonged period of time. Fortunately, he was back on the field 10 minutes later, and displayed no ill effects from the tumble.
- The defensive lineman and linebackers made every effort to get false starts out of the offensive lineman, succeeding twice. It seemed like that was the delight of their day, and they were yaking it up afterwards.
- The offense didn't look as sharp as I would have liked.
- Moncrief (who displayed some speed), Whalen, and Lankford were the WRs.
- Bradford was the RB. He ran at full speed, cutting normally, as best I could tell.
- Both Hasselbeck and Harnish tooks snaps, though Matt took most of them. Matt was off target for several of his throws.
- Seemed like they were auditioning punt returners. Whalen and Lankford took the bulk of the punts. Lankford looked better. T.Y. was not part of that drill at all
- They also ran downing the ball inside the 10 drills. McAfee did his part, but the gunners had trouble locating the ball in time to down it prior to bouncing into the end zone. Pat was also efficient at angling balls to the sideline.
- Though not part of the punting drills, an additional note on McAfee. He threw passes during the over the shoulder WR lob drill. Amazingly, he hit every receiver in stride with a perfect spiral. None of them were more than 20 yards, but still, quite nice for your punter (fakes anyone?). And no, they did not allow him to blow up any punt returners down the sidelines. ;-)
