I've been on a martini kick lately. Greatly prefer gin (Bombay Sapphire for the most part, although I've recently discovered Hendricks), dry, up with olives. I'll drink a vodka martini, but gin's the real thing.

GB martinis

:deadhorse:

Love 'em. Definitely gin--either Tanqueray 10 or Hendricks for me. Used to be an olive guy, but now pretty much straight up and very dry without olives.

I dig vodka martinis, though a true martini aficionado will tell you gin or it's not a martini.

I like gin too for that matter :(

You have to get a bottle of this: http://www.brokersgin.com/home.htmA martini is an experience and reading their story adds to it.
This looks like a very legit gin, a micro-gin as it were, not unlike this product from Anchor Brewing Co.

Gin or it's not a martini, IMO. Like 'em with sapphire, not too dry, not too wet, with 3 olives.

Your post jogged a memory of another great gin from a micro in Bosie, ID. My sister & bro-in-law live out there and we've been here: http://www.bardenay.com/index.html a few times.

These folks appear to know their mixed drinks!

If i want to cut right to the chase and just get f'd up, this is my best route. I usually pay the price severely the next day though. I can't say I love em. I cant say I hate em. But they are definately a means to an end.

tanq 10 is solid. the sapphire blue is nice as well. i prefer the gin style, as it is the only way to have a real martini. dirty, dirty. i'll do vodka, but i prefer to drink vodka with soda.

I've always hated olives. Growing up, whenever I tried one I would literally gag on it. My mom thought it was shtick -- but seriously, it was an involuntary reaction.

So I went many years without trying olives again . . . until about two months ago I had my first martini. It wasn't too bad. I ate the olive at the end . . . and liked it.

Since then I've been eating olives fairly regularly. (Not the most entertaining story you've heard today, I know.)

I tried a chocolate martini on Sunday night and it was one of the best things I ever tasted. (No olive, though.)

If you're making a dry martini, I recommend spritzing the inside of your martini glass with one of these:

Mist sprayer

Fill te spritzer with vermouth and give a few generous blasts on the inside of your glass. Then, put in the chilled booze (vodka or gin). It gives the perfect amount of vermouth touch to your martini.

Thank me later.

Ketel One, up, dirty.
 7 years ago, right after my ex and I separated, a buddy and I went up to Tahoe to blow off some steam. It was Game 1 of the World Series and we were sitting at a bar in Harvey's Casino, playing video poker and watching the game.I gave the bartender my sob  story and asked if I could get comped Kettel One Martini's ;) He  glanced around, shrugged his shoulders and said sure...9 of them later :towelwave: :banned: (Damn they went down so smooth), it was the top of the 7th and I told my buddy I have to go to the bathroom...That was around 7 o'clock...2:30 in the morning he came into our room and said "There you are!"I remember walking into the bathroom right next to the bar but have no idea how I got from there up seven floors to our room

Junipero is good, but it's my 2nd favorite local gin behind No. 209. It can sure be nice living here as between all the microbrews, wine, and distilled spirits produced locally, there is always something new to try.

I have a standing bet with three of my GB's that if they have the nerve to go up to the bar and order an appletini I'll buy them as many rounds as they want that night.

Nobody's taken it yet. :excited:

I prefer a gin martini to a vodka martini as far as the traditional recipe goes, but my favorite is an EXTRA dirty vodka martini, shaken. I love olive juice and vodka, IMO, goes better with a strong briny olive flavor than gin does. Belvedere and Ketel One are my favorites for a vodka martini, or Smirnoff Triple Distilled if you're looking to spend closer to $10 than $30 for a fifth.

Say what you want about the "gay" martinis.....but they are popular with the ladies. I've gotten girls phone numbers because of "gay" martinis. I go up to the bar and stand next to an attractive girl and order one. She tells me she never heard of that drink before and asks what's in it. I tell her and she tells me that it sounds good. I offer to buy her one....she accepts.....wa-la....instant conversation.

At what point does she cut bait and get the hell out of there with her free drink because you're a Cosmo-drinking fruitcake? After the first dainty sip?

Usually the next morning  It's not like I drink them all the time. I am more of a Bourbon/Whiskey kind of guy anyhow.

Meh, I say to each his own.I've had people come up to me when I'm drinking a manhattan and think I must be gay since my drink has a cherry in it."Yeah, I'm gay. Enjoy your Miller Lite."
