Was really rooting for Keira Knightley to get that Catwoman role. Bane is a definite surprise.

It'll be interesting to see if they still cast another female lead for Talia al Ghul (daughter of Ra's al Ghul, the villain from the first film)... she was rumored to be in it as well.

Bane sounds cool. I haven't seen anything Hardy's been in except for Black Hawk Down, and I don't remember him. I hope he doesn't suck.

I just saw Inception and remember thinking the guy who played Eames was my favorite character in that movie. Never saw him in anything else before. Looking forward to him as Bane but can Bane really be the main villain? Yeah I know they wussified Bane in the original Batman movies and I know he broke Batman's back in the comics but is he "famous" enough to pull it off? Does he even talk?

I bet they push the steroid angle.

I think Hardy is a big time up-and-comer here...I wouldn't be surprised if he starts popping up like Worthington.

I thought you had to be referring to the Batman animated movies, then I Googled "Bane" and found out he appeared in "Batman and Robin". I totally forgot he was even in that movie. I was probably too distracted watching Uma Thurman as Poison Ivy!

Bane is actually quite intelligent. He was portrayed as an ogre in the Batman and robin movie but he's a criminal mastermind that had an experiment done on him as a young adult. It created super strength and agility but made him addicted to "venom," the drug that provided his power. He eventually took over Gothams Criminal Underworld. Batman and Robin was an awful abonimation of a movie and doesn't do Bane justice. I trust Nolan will do it well.

Hardy was pretty decent in RockNRolla. I think he's been tagged as a legit up and comer.

I think Bane has been misrepresented in most appearances outside his origin story The Vengeance of Bane. He's very smart; a mirror opposite of Batman who was born in a Third World prison and trained himself (much in the same way Bruce Wayne did) after hearing of stories of Batman from American prisoners in the prison. He pumped himself up additionally by taking Venom....a kind of super steroid that a young Batman dabbled with ( the Legends of the Dark Knight story Venom). I actually think the powers that Bane did the Bane story a little better in the villain Prometheus ( Prometheus )...so I'm kind of hoping they go with a combo of the two...rather than the straight Bane story. I also think it'd be a bit extraneous to go with the Venom subplot and instead just extend the theme from the first two ( that of the changing of the villains of Gotham from normal criminals to crazies influenced by the appearance of Batman).

I was thinking Bane wasn't in any of those Batman movies. Then I realized that Batman and Robin is the only movie I have ever payed for and then walked out. I don't think I lasted five minutes before the stink of that movie was too much.

Anne Hathaway in a catsuit <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<< Kate Beckinsale in a catsuit

Not really thrilled with that choice, but he hasn't exactly been batting .1000 with female leads in these pics anyway.

No Joker is going to be the 5000 pound elephant in the room.

Bane is a cool character, but I really wish they would find a way to mix the Joker in somehow. I get it, Ledger was incredible, but I'd rather see the most interesting character be incorporated in. :goodposting:

I'm telling you, they're going to explore drug addition and steroids with Bane. Just watch. I'm not saying this will be bad. Nolan is very good at doing social commentary with a compelling storyline. Just look at The Dark Knight and terrorism.

 Also, I think Nolan has earned our trust for Catwoman. Remember how many folk laughed when we heard Ledger was going to play Joker?

Anne Hathaway's the one with the giant Julia Roberts mouth, right? Maybe that's their homage to the joker.

At the very least mention what happened to him (easy out would be to say he is housed at that batman asylum)

There was chatter for a while that they would use unused footage of Ledger and CGI to include the Joker in the Dark Knight Rises, but when I went back to find anything on it, Nolan responded and said that the rumors were false. Could have been cool.

I wonder if they are going to mix in the knight fall plot.
Could be why it's called Dark Knight Rises? But if they do the knight fall plot, there is no way Bane can break Bruce and then have the recovery to rise again, not enough time. Not to mention how Azrael would be introduced.

The thing about his social commentary is that crime has been falling for 20 years. Nolan's corrupt Gotham makes no sense in today's world. We live in a world where a Batman isn't needed.

Isn't that Gargamel's cat? How did he get into the Batman series?

I would love to see a movie where at the very end he breaks Batman's back. The next movie would be the actual rise back.Of course, given the title, that is not going to happen in this one.
