Seems like BB got beat at his own game by BO'B6th round pick I have heard
looks like they were in talks with the cowboys tooSo I guess by the timing that the Texans were hoping he was cut so they could get him for nothing.
Apparently they had to jump in and trade for him because the Cowboys were also in the mix...So I guess by the timing that the Texans were hoping he was cut so they could get him for nothing.
... or not.Maybe I can salvage some value in my superflex league.
Impossibru!Seems like BB got beat at his own game by BO'B6th round pick I have heard
I still think it's a win for them if they think he is potentially their future. Rumors were flying high around draft time of an early or mid rounder for Mallett. Only thing now would be to try and extend his contract.Apparently they had to jump in and trade for him because the Cowboys were also in the mix...So I guess by the timing that the Texans were hoping he was cut so they could get him for nothing.
NE is only carrying 2 QBs on their roster.Mr. Retukes said:So who is going to be the #2 in New England? Jimmy Garoppolo??
If Blaine Gabbert can fetch a pick, anything is possible.Ponder's got to be worth a pick right?
Which is their usual MO.NE is only carrying 2 QBs on their roster.Mr. Retukes said:So who is going to be the #2 in New England? Jimmy Garoppolo??
You guys are assuming that the Texans ever offered more.Should've been traded a while ago. BB out thought himself on this one.
True. I guess I don't really know what the trade market was/offers were at that point. I do think, however, that as a a casual fan that Mallett's value is about as low as it has been since being drafted. I could be wrong, though. You guys are assuming that the Texans ever offered more.Should've been traded a while ago. BB out thought himself on this one.
why?Bump all Texans receivers.Bump Andre?
IMO none at all. Wouldn't be surprising to me if Fitz kept the job.How much of an upgrade is Mallet over Fitzpatrick?
I thought as much. My initial reaction wasn't "bump all Texans".IMO none at all. Wouldn't be surprising to me if Fitz kept the job.How much of an upgrade is Mallet over Fitzpatrick?
I think Savage beats him out for the #2 QB slot.I thought as much. My initial reaction wasn't "bump all Texans".IMO none at all. Wouldn't be surprising to me if Fitz kept the job.How much of an upgrade is Mallet over Fitzpatrick?
No. The key was spending a 3rd on him and getting a 6th in return. Completely wasted high draft pick on a player that gave them zero utility on the field. When he was picked everyone talked him up and how the Pats were gonna coach him up and flip him for a 1st. Clearly the plan failed.I don't see how BB out-thought himself here...the key for them dealing Mallett was making sure they were comfortable with Jimmy G as their #2...after a slow start to camp he really played well thus making Mallet expendable...the trade probably doesn't happen if Garrapolo wets his pants...for Houston the timing is odd...if you think he has any shot of being your QB of the future wouldn't you want him in camp from the beginning...especially since he is going to be a free agent after this year which means you don't have a ton of time to make a decision on him...

There isn't a QB on the planet who could keep this team in the playoff hunt. What did Mallett do in pre-season. Was he not awful.
I dont think he even is good with the play book. This trade is hoping he can learn something at practice at the end of the year. If Fitz keeps them in the playoff hunt, he is the QB there. Texans have a season like last year and than Mallett gets a chance but so does Savage. I agree with Savage outdoing this guy with a huge head start. Mallett has never even played much in the NFL. He is just like a rookie but the big arm is salivating.
I think the plan was to have a back up qb -- they didn't get that utility? No. The key was spending a 3rd on him and getting a 6th in return. Pretty much anyone that didn't have a tie to UofH thought Case Keenum was going to be cut though. This likely makes it a certainty.Trading for another QB after all the preseason games are done doesn't express much confidence in their current QB's.
It's a recent change, though. The Patriots carried at least 3 QBs every season from 2000-2009 and 2011.Which is their usual MO.NE is only carrying 2 QBs on their roster.Mr. Retukes said:So who is going to be the #2 in New England? Jimmy Garoppolo??
Rohan Davey should have gotten us a bunch of picks, just like Ryan Mallett. I remember quite clearly the conversations about Mallett and why we drafted him. It wasn't because we expected Brady to retire. It was specifically because we were supposed to trade him for a profit a few years down the line. This didn't happen.I don't see how BB out-thought himself here...the key for them dealing Mallett was making sure they were comfortable with Jimmy G as their #2...after a slow start to camp he really played well thus making Mallet expendable...the trade probably doesn't happen if Garrapolo wets his pants...for Houston the timing is odd...if you think he has any shot of being your QB of the future wouldn't you want him in camp from the beginning...especially since he is going to be a free agent after this year which means you don't have a ton of time to make a decision on him...
Quiet down, you. This was clearly another genius move by Belichick the Genius. You simply haven't broken down the sheer brilliance of the genius move just yet.No. The key was spending a 3rd on him and getting a 6th in return. And you know this was BB's plan how? I don't think I have ever heard that echoed from anyone in the Patriots organization...if you want to say they did not develop (or over-drafted) QBs like O'Connel, Davey and Mallet that is a very fair criticism...yet, I think there is zero evidence indicating they are drafting these guys to simply trade them...they are drafting them to be a backup QB...Rohan Davey should have gotten us a bunch of picks, just like Ryan Mallett. Bill spent a 3rd and got a very cheap backup QB for 3 years plus...maybe...a 7th. If you factor the money he saved by not paying a backup QB multi-millions for holding a clipboard then the 3rd was easily worth it.Quiet down, you. Outside of QB they are a better team than they were two years ago when they went 12-4 and beat the Bengals in the playoffs. There isn't a QB on the planet who could keep this team in the playoff hunt. What did Mallett do in pre-season. Was he not awful.
