I realize that Goodfellas will win this poll, but I want to see how much respect Casino gets. The more years that go by, Casino gets closer and closer to Goodfellas in my mind. For some reason, Casino seems to get short-changed when discussing all-time great movies. A lot of people were turned off by the extreme violence, I believe.

Goodfellas started out on fire, but the ending didn't seem to pack the same punch.

Casino really was an excellent production, start to finish. Sharon Stone played pathetic flawlessly.

I'd agree with that assessment. 10 years ago, I would've laughed at the question. Now, I had to think for a few seconds. Still voted Goodfellas, but it's close.

Definitely Goodfellas, but Casino is definitely way underrated.

I love when Pesci hires guys to watch the FBI watch him.

And RN, I believe the actor who played Bobby on The Sopranos is one of the guys at the bar when Pesci stabs that guy in the throat with the pen after he got pissy with De Niro's chacracter.

Is it any wonder why Bobby D. is my favorite actor (by far)... how's this for a resume of dramas?

Casino

Goodfellas

Godfather II

Mean Streets

Taxi Driver

Raging Bull

A Bronx Tale

Those are each among my favorite movies ever, and he's a huge part of all of them.

I didn't care for "Heat" and "The Deer Hunter" as much as some other people.

Goodfellas is rated properly. Casino is vastly underrated. Both are endlessly rewatchable. Lorraine Bracco bugs me at tmies, Sharon Stone bugs me at times. Jimmy is a cooler character than Ace but DeNiro murders both roles. Tommy and Nicky are almost interchangeable. The first three fourths of Goodfellas is possibly the most entertaining a film can ever be, though, and while Casino is solid start to finish, it can't reach that height. I'd say Goodfellas is a 9.5, Casino is a 9.

Ever see "Bang The Drum Slowly"? I believe that was his first starring role.

De Niro is also my all-time favorite  :bag: , although I am a huge fan of Heat; one of my favorites.

No kidding? Never realized that... yep, shows him as "Man in bar"http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0771993/

I'll check it out. It's coming up pretty soon.
Yeah, me being a fellow Sopranos nut, one day I was bored and decided to peruse the principle actors imdb pages from The Sopranos to see if any of them were in stuff I had seen before getting into the show, and stumbled across that little nugget. I never would have noticed that otherwise.

I think in all fairness I should explain to you exactly what it is that I do. For instance, tomorrow morning I'll get up nice and early take a walk down over to the bank and walk in and see you and um, if you don't have my money for me, I'll crack your ####in' head wide open in front of everybody at the bank. And just about the time that I'm coming out of jail, hopefully you'll be coming out of your coma and guess what? I'll split your ####in' head open again 'cuz i'm ####in' stupid, I don't give a #### about jail. That's my business. That's what I do.
I used to send Marino back home with a piece of what I made. Not a big piece, but what did they know? They were 1500 miles away, and I don't know anyone who can see that far.
Listen to me, Anthony. I got your head in a ####in' vise. I'll squash your ####in' head like a grapefruit, if you don't give me a name.
Now, on top of everything else, I gotta make sure no one ####s around with the Golden Jew.

I love the scene where James Woods character, Lester, and Stone's daughter are bickering at each other like 5-year olds. :yucky:

Does the director always choose what music will be in the film and when it will be inserted?

If so, Scorsese does it brilliantly. It's pretty clear he's really fond of the Rolling Stones.

Lester Diamond plays a great sleaze ball.I also like when the cops follow one of Nicky's guys to his house and when gets out they shoot him because they thought he had a gun. "He didn't have a gun, he had a ####in euro sandwich...let's get out of here." :yucky: And than they blast the #### out of the cops houses.

I wonder if Frank Vincent was personally a little happy about his role considering he got to exact revenge on Joe Pesci after Pesci slammed a car door on him in "Raging Bull" and then bludgeoned and stabbed him in "Goodfellas".

I feel the same way.

I hated Heat when I saw it in the theater....but as I've seen it again and again I realize it is almost perfect.

After several viewings, I definitely think Casino is just as good. If it came out first, this poll would be the other way around.

He's okay. Always was

And then the last guy: Meh. Why take the chance?
Playing House of the Rising Sun at the end was just perfect -
.Goodfellas is the better movie, but Casino is very underrated so I think it's very close.

Casino's improvement over time comes from its cable-TV rewatchability. You're flipping through the channels, you see Casino on, you watch for an hour or so, it's not bad. Usually you pick it up where the FBI guys' plane runs out of fuel. Some good scenes, you get into it, you don't have to sit and watch the whole thing. If you always had to watch it the whole way through, I doubt as many people would say it's improved that much over time.

If Coppola had made Casino, it'd get much more respect. Casino suffers because Scorsese made Goodfellas. To me, the fact that the subject is the same doesn't diminish the fact that Casino is a GREAT movie.

The relationship scenes in that movie aren't worth seeing several times. But all of the rest of Heat is outstanding.

Goodfellas has Robert DeNiro...Casino has Robert DeNiro

Goodfellas has Joe Pesci...Casino has Joe Pesci

Goodfellas has Ray Liotta...Casino has Don Rickles.

DeNiro and Pesci are great but you throw in Liotta to bounce off those guys and it added a special dynamic. With Goodfellas you felt like you were in on it with Liotta's character the whole time, it sort of chronicles the mob, pays homage to the mob, pokes fun at the mob a bit too with the bar scene and the cast of mob bosses and characters where as Casino is less theory and more hands on to some degree.

Casino has one of the best all time ##### on wheels with Sharon Stone who was magnificent in that film.

Casino is like Shawshank, if it comes on you have to watch.

This nails it.

;) I'll never forget the first time I saw Goodfellas in the theater. It was my first date with my long-time girlfriend. She got Junior Mints. I got a large Sprite and a can of tuna.

Goodfellas crushes Casino. I've seen Casino at least 10 times but it's really not even close. A few scenes are just poorly acted between Pesci and DeNiro and DeNiro and Stone. Anyone who chooses Casino over Goodfellas is not trustworthy.

I could see that. I would agree that it does get a bit tedious near the end, if you watch it all of the way through in one sitting, thanks to the constant bickering of Ace and Ginger. Still, the rest is stellar.
