I know, I know this thread will have 16 posts by 2017 but i'm gonna start the engine on this one.

I was never into college football much growing up in NJ and naturally I just followed the home team...but that meant losses to Miami/Syracuse by 50 in the 90s and even less of a reason to follow CFB.

Schiano brought some respectability, a couple of big wins and a some bowl games.

Fast forward to 2014 and joining the Big 10 was a huge step forward in the future of college football for RU.

I was expecting 4 wins this year and here we are at 5-1.

Michigan is terrible this year but this is a huge win for this program, hence storming the field after beating a team that is now 2-4.

This is one of the benefits of being in the B10.

Rutgers can go 5-7 and pull off 1 upset that will make a season and hopefully sway recruits.

I'd rather have that instead of gong 7-5 with a big win over Pitt and an appearance against some 6th place team form the MAC in the Beef o Brady Bowl

Nova probably played one of his best games with 404 3/0 and the special teams had yet another FB block :matumbo:

We got 2 weeks to let this sink in and 7-5 seems within reach. Here is hoping for 1 more win against a big boy school to make a good 1st impression in the B10.

The Birthplace of College Football!

Those uniforms are so slick. Some of the best in CFB. Crowd looked and sounded great last night as well.

Starting to sway some of the local talent

http://www.nj.com/rutgersfootball/index.ssf/2014/10/kareem_walker_top_rb_in_the_country_talks_rutgers-michigan_and_more.html

Kareem Walker, the DePaul Catholic(Wayne, N.J.) standout, ranked the No. 1 running back in the country according to the most recognized recruiting networks, attended Rutgers' second consecutive Big Ten game since joining the conference this season. He shared his opinions of the atmosphere, Rutgers' performance, players returning home to Rutgers and how he feels he'd fit in the Rutgers offense.

"It was nice, man, seeing them make history. It was live," said Walker, the 6-foot, 212-pound junior and No. 7 recruit in the NJ.com Top 50. "The crowd was great out there.

"I think the defense played well, the way they played against Penn State. But the offense, specifically Gary Nova, he stepped his game up. If he can stay consistent like that, they can win a lot of games. But it's gonna depend on him. You can't have the Gary Nova that played against Penn State, you've gotta have the Gary Nova that played against Michigan."

With Kiy Hester and Greg Webb, top New Jersey prospects from previous recruiting classes, returning home to Rutgers after originally signing elsewhere, its helped show Walker that remaining home is a viable option.

"It should help Rutgers as far as with guys staying home," said Walker, "if all those guys come back who played at other colleges. So that definitely turned some heads."

Better watch yourself, them's fightin' words in these parts.

Really should've beaten PSU. They let that one slip away.
No kidding...I have no idea why they went away from the bull-rush that they were using in the 1st half. Hack looked like a deer in the headlights with DE's in his face all night.

Does rutgers ever NOT rush the field?
You can't spell rush without RU??
I guess it's a celebration of their first B1G win and a win over a traditional powerhouse, but I agree...I felt it was a little silly to rush and tear down goal posts. I think it's kind of an adjustment period. Between this and the stories about RU fans being horrible to visiting fans, it sounds like they have a little "growing up" to do as fan base.

I do think that the potential emergence of RU will have major impacts on recruiting. PSU and others have relied on the NJ area as a major source of recruits, almost considering NJ their "home" territory. The emergence of an NJ in-state program with some clout could change that.

Rutgers did get lucky on that incomplete call on the sidelines.

I thought it was a catch.

Was anyone at the game? How was the crowd? I was expecting a ton of Michigan blue but it didnt seem that way from watching on TV.

Not me,

Several friends.

I live 1 town over, so the vibe is great.

I have never been to a game, looking forward to it.

I'm eyeing up the Wisconsin game

Very strong crowd support. I'm a Michigan guy, and I was very impressed. They deserved the win.

I'm a lifelong Jersey resident but not a Rutgers alum. I didn't go to a Div. I school so I guess I'm a Rutgers fan by default. When I saw the schedule this year I thought they'd be lucky to scratch four wins, so this season is already a qualified success as far as I'm concerned.

If RU could ever get consistently good QB play they'd be a legit force in the B1G. As it is, Nova looks scary good one week and absolutely atrocious the next. I don't follow the program intensely, so does anyone know who's up next after Nova graduates?

A 4 star QB from LSU out of California just transferred to Rutgers earlier this year. Big kid, very strong arm. Hes got three year left I believe. Dont know if hes in the drivers seat, but he looks to have the best pedigree.

Only silver lining is that the dubious honor goes to Michigan. Couldn't happen to a nicer program.

These are the 4 on the roster for 2015 as of now.

I think Retting has the inside track

Hayden Retting

I grew up in Piscataway and went to a lot of games as a kid (mostly of the 50-0 variety versus Miami and Syracuse). It has been a few years since I've been to a game, but I have to get back up there for one.

tOSU going for it on 4th and goal up 35. LOL.

At least RU forced a 4th down. Field storm worthy if it was a home game?

eh, weren't really ever IN it and this may sound asinine but I would rather have some losses like this instead of beating #23 ranked South Florida.

Wisconsin at home up next...

We'll see how Nova's injury effects things.

Have you heard anything about Nova's injury? I hated to see that.
A complete lack of mobility and being unable to drive the ball on throws.

That was an extremely, extremely painful game to watch. I ended up not going due to a family issue and couldn't imagine if I also had to sit through that weather.

Flood will get lucky and keep his job with a win against an equally spiraling out of control Indiana team, but that's definitely not enough for me. There's just nothing he does well as a head coach and doesn't instill confidence in any way.

ya think?

I was assuming Flood would be fine.

i would think Flood gets a street named after him if he makes a bowl in his 1st year in the BIG 10

A win on Sat guarantees a 500 record and a bowl eligibility, not too shabby for year 1

Rutgers is an 8pt favorite in the last home game of the year.

If both Washington State and Navy were as good as they were expected to be before the season, and if "Michigan - W" still meant something, I'd agree.

Unfortunately we're just spinning our wheels at this point.

I almost bet the under 4 but didn't want to find myself rooting against them.

Baby steps

Got a little too close there but pulled away for an easy win.

Was good to beat a conference team you should take care of to gain a bowl bid.

MSU should take care of them pretty easily just hope they keep it close and respectable.

Good win to end out the season at 7-5

Very respectable 1st year.

-Huge losses vs Ohio St, Wisconsin, Nebraska and Michigan St were somewhat expected

-Near win vs Penn State

-Nice win against a terrible Michigan team is like kissing your sister but we'll take it

Nova had some good moments and Caroo should be leaving for the NFL

Will be interesting to see who takes control at QB

Still a few years from being able to actually compete in the B1G.

Their games against Wisconsin, OSU, MSU, and Nebraska were all embarrassing.

If Schiano goes to Michigan, they're ####ed!!! He'll be stealing NJ recruits left and right.

Politi is off-base here, IMO. Rutgers is not going to get sent to bowls over Maryland and Iowa, especially as both of those teams were 4-4 in the conference vs their 3-5.

http://www.nj.com/rutgersfootball/index.ssf/2014/12/lousy_big_ten_bowl_placement_is_more_of_the_same_for_rutgers_politi.html#incart_m-rpt-1

A game against an opponent from a Big-5 conference (UNC) should have you guys happy.

Then again, perhaps it's just the lament of a reporter who is getting sent to Detroit to cover a bowl instead of Florida or California.

I'm a happy Illini alum b/c our conference has leadership that magically has a way of figuring these out (like getting all 10 of us into bowls with Mississippi State's phantom move up the rankings over Michigan State).

Anyway, good luck in Detroit in your half of the Boxing Day Doubleheader.

40-21

Wasn't even that close.

This team has some good RB talent for the future.

Would be great is Carroo could stick around but i assume he is on his way to the NFL draft.

Not that UNC is a great team but a very good victory over a nationally recognizable school to hopefully sway some recruits.

Sometimes you have to do things you don't want to do in order to become the Quick Lane Bowl Champs.

At least UCF losing at home as double digit favorites will keep my co-workers from piling on me tomorrow.

This basically sets them back 10-15 years. Everything Schiano did getting them back to somewhat respectable is nullified, they're ####ed.

:lmao: You're nuts. Do you have any clue what those early 2000s teams looked like?

Let me be clear, I'm not defending them...they should all be kicked out of school. But it was one current player and one former player (a Schiano recruit, if it matters) involved in the "home invasions", which conjures images of a family of 4 cowering in a corner while their house is ransacked, and not stealing $900 and drugs from another couple of kids. The other 4 got arrested for being in a fight. It's not quite the scandalous story that the headline warrants.

Flood is a below average P5 coach who stepped in #### getting this job, and will earn more money than he deserves, but he's not getting fired over this. Coaches don't get fired for players getting arrested for assault. Tell me which of these coaches got fired for lack of discipline? If the team goes 4-8, which could very well happen with so much of the secondary now gone, he'll get fired for a poor record just like every other coach.
