Denver at Houston (1 Viewer)

Andre Johnson hit 100 receptions earlier, tied with Welker for most 100 reception seasons all-time with 5.

Pretty blatant offensive pass interference on that first Bryce McCain play. Receiver who fell grabbed his jersey and prevented him getting there to make the interception.

So...

If this is ruled incomplete and not a fumble, then wouldn't it be intentional grounding? If it's a pass, it didn't go beyond the LoS and there were no receivers near.

I'm missing something here, right?

ETA: He was still in the pocket, as well.

Poor coaching by Wade at the end. Should have run the ball on 3rd down and make Denver spend a timeout.

Hey Greg, since you're in here - fill me in on my earlier question, if you don't mind.

Admittedly, I've had a few beers and am probably missing something. Scroll a few posts up and see if you can fill me on what I'm missing.

The Broncos need to start, ya know, actually running the ball. I know that will bring out the "Peyton wants to throw non-stop to break the record" trolls, but 36 pass attempts and only 9 runs at this point is way too lopsided.

I know what you mean, though I don't think I've ever seen intentional grounding called in a situation like that where he wasn't under pressure when the ball came out unintentionally. There is an exception for passes affected by contact with a defensive player, though that wouldn't apply to this instance.

They could decide it doesn't meet the "imminent loss of yardage because of pressure from the defense" part, I suppose. But I think the NFL probably has just told refs, if the ball comes out unintentionally, don't throw the flag unless he was going down already. Not really sure, either.

Is Caldwell playing at all?
He was in earlier, haven't noticed him specifically in a bit. I can't say this definitively, but I am under the impression Denver has maybe used a fair amount of 2 TE formations instead of 3 WR. Have noticed Tamme and Virgil Green more than I'd have expected.

I disagree with Dan Fouts on that one. Decker didn't initiate the contact, McCain did, and then slipped.

There has been OPI missed, like on that 1st half play that got Denver close to the end zone where the receivers were blocking downfield long before the ball arrived. But this TD wasn't one of them.

Congrats to Knoshon for breaking 1000 yards rushing for the first time in his career this year.

@MikeKlis is reporting "there is concern" Von Miller's knee injury is "significant." Could have major playoff implications.

Glad you chimed in. I'm thinking along the same lines you are here. I really start to wonder, though, if a QB actually thought of this, he could "act" like he lost the ball at the end of a throw to avoid a sack. I think it would be too risky in the fact that he might not time it right and it actually becomes a fumble, though. But if it was a big play, at the end of the game and he couldn't afford the loss of yards, I could see him doing it.

Anyway, I still think it should have been intentional grounding. Refs shouldn't "assume" it was an accidental throw into the ground (and it shouldn't really matter). Not a big deal either way, I guess.

Good lord. I know all teams have injuries, but we have been decimated this year when you combine both sides of the ball.
