Team X Chess thread (1 Viewer)

Note to all - I am working today, but have a 3 hour drive in which I'll be able to do lots of analysis. I'll chime in tonight with my thoughts.

Black game

Rg8 appears best to me. I can't find anything wrong with it. We are still ahead in every line I could go through.

I don't like Be7 because we lose protection on our f pawn unless I am missing something.

This line appears to be an issue with Be7:

22...Be7

23.O-O Rh7

24.Rdf3 ??

Then we have three pieces pressuring our f pawn and we can't protect it. With Rg8 or even Rf8 we can still protect it with our other rook. But I like Rg8 best for now.... until you guys blow holes in it. :)

One other option because I like throwing out options that I have not seen yet.

What about Bb4+ ? Puts him in check and forces him to move his king. Removes his option to O-O and leaves his king exposed the rest of the game. No option looks good for him either. Kd1 and Ke2 are both inferior postions.

Then we follow that with Rg8.

22. Bb4+

23. Ke2 Rg8

....and on with that line that I've looked at for a while now.

I still don't see what is wrong with Rb8.

Rb3? RxR we want to exchange pieces at every opportunity.

Rd1? Bb4+

Ke2? h5 with Bh6 coming

Ke2? h5 with Bh6 coming

What am I missing here?

EVERYTHING!

Seriously, I'll have a good look at it later.

I don't see anything wrong with it either.

I also agree with Rg8. Rb8 is horrible. O-O is okay but leaves the h column pretty open. I can't find an immediate line with o-o that leaves us bad off but that open h column is an open sore.

2 votes Rg8.

Looking at our white game. I need to do better analysis but what I played with shows that without a rook we are in pretty big trouble if we give up the c column. Ant other comments on our position there?

Agreed 10,000,000,000,000%! My suggested line is above.

Bc4 followed by Nd2, Kg2, f3, Bf2

Or we can just move the Q but I think this loses the c file.
Honestly we are in deep #### once they move Ng6, but I can't see anything better than Bc4. Since we have 8 hours left and it is Easter night, I'm going to make the move.

Crap, didn't get notification as my wifi was off on my phone.

In our white game: Qc5

In our black game: Rf1

In our white game I'd think Nd2. Black game either Rg7 or Ra7. On first blush I'd prefer Rg7.

Black

I don't see a credible alternative to Rg7 or Ra7.

Rg7 preserves castling flexibility, Ra7 opens up the rook a little.

Slight preference to Rg7, I think, but there's a decent chance that they follow with Rf3 and force our other rook, too. At that point, I think we have a safe standoff on the pawn, and hopefully, we can start working on something else.

Agree that Nd2 was the only move. We've now got to prioritize getting the queen out of the pin before they can get a knight over to help in the attack.

After we lock down the F column I see moving the a pawn and then bringing the light bishop over to force the rook off of the f column completely. Then they #### their pants when they start to see the a pawn start its inexorable march.

I don't see a big difference between the two moves, as I think we'll be moving both.

1 vote Rg7.

Qc2 looks viable to me. It protects both the N and a pawn. At some point we can move the Q to a2 to get it off the pin.

I think we also need to get f3 in soon so we can get our black B into the game.

i'll give a 3rd vote to Rg7. i like it slightly better than Ra7 and don't see anything else better than those.

Regarding our white game I see no other choice other than Qc2. 2 votes. Can I get a third or other thoughts?

We have two moves in both games. Sorry, I was essentially out all day yesterday.

In our white game, Team O moved Rg6. About the worst move for us they could have moved. Not good.

In our Black game, hxg5. I recommend taking back.

white. i see nothing except f3.

black, i think we take back also. so hxg5.

think we'll ever get a chance to move a5 so we can then go Ba6? would we even want to?

I agree on both. I think we will be able to move a5 and that will signal that they are in trouble. They have tempo right now as we gave that up for the material we have. Haven't turned it around yet, but it is coming, IMO.

Since we have three on both, I will make those moves.
