Cardinals "World Class" Defense? (1 Viewer)

From the daily email today:

St. Louis Rams WR Danny Amendola (ankle) fully participated in practice Wednesday, Oct. 3, and is listed as probable for Week 5.[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ OUR VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]We have a feeling the Cardinals world class defense will be able to scheme a plan to limit Amendola on Thursday night. He's still a WR3 for your fantasy team as we expect Sam Bradford to force feed Amendola the football.
This is the same defense that gave up astronomical numbers to Hartline & Bess last week at home. I would think Amendola would be a great play this week at home. What am I missing here?

From what I saw, the Cardinals made a decision to shut down the running game and dared the Dolphins to beat them through the air. They did a good job of proving that they were competent in that area though, so the Cardinals were burnt by it a little.

I play in a league that penalizes for yards against and Arizona still got me 8 points last week. For fantasy purposes, this defense is absolute gold.

Every defense has a bad game, just as every offense will have a few bad ones. Cardinals D is legit, as are the Hawks D, and 49ers.

One problem with a great DST can be nothing having to do with defense at all - the offense can be a mess and lead to opportunities for the other team. The biggest problem I have with the Cards right now is the lack of a running game. I don't know why Whiz can never get this part of his master plan going but he never does. If they ever did the Cards would be Steelers West.... but not yet.

This defense is having to spend an average of 71.2 plays on the field per game which is 28th ranked in the league and could be a concern going forward that they might start to wear down somewhat as the season progresses.

It would be, if they weren't causing fumbles, picking up interceptions, and getting sacks constantly. The Cardinals are one of the few defenses I've ever owned where I'm HAPPY when they are on the field (and could potentially give up points).I do have a gut feeling (with nothing statistical to back it up) that tonight's game will be surprisingly high scoring.

I do think that the Cardinals will attempt to limit Amendola tonight and force Bradford to look elsewhere. I'm still evaluating whether I should play Cardinals D/ST AND Legatron tonight, though. I'm obviously playing Legatron but if St. Louis gets down by a large margin, he may become ineffective.

I do think Arizona is a great play this week, though. They're not a flashy offense and I don't think there will be a dropoff on defense as the year wears on.

peterson is a threat to run a kick back too. Rolling Ariz in coupl leagues tonight.

Yeah, I think after shutting down Vick and Brady, they are really afraid of the power that is Sam Bradford.

If memory serves correct last year it seemed as if almost everything this guy posted ended up being not just wrong but horribly horribly wrong.Start Arizona D with even greater confidence tonight if you have them.

I would ride the cards d thru wk 8. Maybe drop before GB/bye/ATL stretch for a team already they their bye at that time. But that's just me. Dropped them for the Rams? Wow.

Yeah, but can they keep the Rams from gaining 20yds per drive? Cuz that's all they need to get into Legatron's range.

I'm hoping for a 70yd attempt tonight.

I scrapped ARI's DST in a league for STL's tonight. Call me crazy, but I think STL matches up very well against ARI.
Crazy like a fox . . . or shark
No doubt a great call for tonight's game. Not as clear as to the big picture. Unfortunately, the Rams don't get to play against that offensive line every week.As to Arizona's defense, I'm not sure they're going to be able to put up big numbers if their offense can't do anything. Clearly it puts a lot of pressure on the Arizona defense, and will tend to tire them out. More importantly, the opposing offense isn't forced into pressure situations that lead to turnovers.

I will admit I had no idea they'd match their sack count on the season.

So much for the vaunted Cards defense.

Got torched by the Dolphins and beat by the lambs.

Guess I'll scour the waver wire next week.

Thursday night games have been completely unpredictable ... I'll give them another chance against the Bills next week.

They still got me great points last week in the Dolphins game. This one was rough, but it wasn't a disaster or anything.

After last night's horrendous performance out of the vaunted Ariz D and against the pathetic Rams Off no less...it looks like it's back to streaming D's!!!!!

Be ahead of the wave...or get crushed by it. These guys were a sell high or drop after their nice start the first 2 weeks.

With such a horrible offense, this defense cannot sustain fantasy relevance.

Cardinals DT Darnell Dockett played 19-of-56 defensive snaps in his Week 5 return from a hamstring injury.

He was held off the statsheet, though the ten-day layoff between Arizona's Weeks 5 and 6 games should get Dockett back to full strength, assuming he avoids setbacks. Although he has no sacks, Dockett was perhaps the most disruptive interior defensive lineman in football in the first three games of the year.

Would you mind elaborating on why you thought this? This was an otherworldly call; I'm very curious what led you to make it.
I also picked up the Rams D and played them over Bills D this week. I saw that they had 8 picks the first 4 games and there was good shot at getting a pick 6 out of them, (they almost had 3 of them last night).Plus, it was a short week and they were home in a dome , national tv, with pretty good D-line talent. I didn't expect 9 sacks but I thought they would outpoint the Bills D this week. Now it looks like they might be a keeper. Fish has them playing some inspired ball.

It was known that ARI's OL couldn't run block, but last week they were also exposed by MIA's pass rush and allowed Kolb to get sacked 8 times at home (if it were in MIA I would have slightly discounted the effort). So now I was under the assumption they couldn't pass block as well.I checked the line and Vegas only had ARI favored by 2.5 (I believe). Vegas thought it'd be close, a defensive battle I presumed. STL was home as well. The main thing that influenced me though was exactly what I stated, they just seemed to match up well on paper. STL is weak against the run but ARI can't run the ball. If Vegas thought it'd be close then I assumed Kolb would eventually have to pass against an improved and underrated STL secondary. It my mind I pictured Kolb sitting behind a flimsy OL having to eventually pass and hopefully failing. It panned out, much better than I could've hoped though.

So Arizona is hosting Buffalo this Sunday. As expected all the offensive players on the Cardinals got an upgrade in rankings against the Bills def. The Bills are not a good tackling team. There is a player on the Cardinals that I will have my eyes on. And if you also have the Cardinals def then I hope we get to talk about him after week 6.

This will be a very interesting game for both teams ...

Will we see the Good Cardinals D from the first three weeks or the Bad Cardinals D from the last two weeks?

Will we see the decent Cardinals offense from the first three weeks or the terrible Cardinals offense from the last two weeks?

Will we see the Good Bills offense from the first three weeks or the Bad Bills offense from the last two weeks?

Will be see the Terrible Bills D from the last two weeks or an adequate or better D Bills defense from the first few weeks?

The Cardinals D was "good" last week against the Rams. After the first drive, they mostly shut the Rams down. Considering that Dockett only played a limited amount (and should be healthier now), that was a good showing. They still got me 9 points in fantasy. Not too bad.

The big problem with the Cardinal's defense last week wasn't the points they gave up, because it was pretty similar to their first few weeks. The issue was the lack of sacks and other big plays. With Dockett back in full, I think they get back to applying a ton of pressure on the QB and making some more big plays.

Also, it's about time for a Peterson kick return.
