Brian Quick WR Saint Louis Rams [Appalachian State] (1 Viewer)

Rotoworld:

The Rams are expected to use second-year WR Brian Quick in "select situations," like red-zone packages.
Quick has some Marques Colston to his game and goes 6-foot-4, 220. Although he was unable to unseat Austin Pettis for a starting job in training camp, ESPN Rams beat writer Nick Wagoner believes Quick "has a chance to break through to the starting lineup at some point opposite (Chris) Givens." Quick is still squarely on the fantasy radar and worth rostering in deep leagues.

Pettis is still getting the majority of snaprs over him - waiting for him to take the next step . . .

will be hard to do with Clemens or Davis at the helm.

He was someone else's roster garbage in one league, I was happy to swoop in and take a flier at no cost (other than the roster spot).

I have a smidgen of hope for him since Bradford went down. It has been pretty obvious that Bradford loves him some Austin Pettis for some reason, to the detriment of the rest of the WR corps on that team. I think Quick's stock can only go up from here since Pettis won't have someone staring lovingly in his direction waiting for him to get open which might allow for the other guys to get some looks. I still believe he has the best frame and skill set to be the possession guy on this team.

Any supporters still out there for this guy? Gave 3 5th's and Fasano for him to take a shot in the dark
I'm actually quite encouraged by him lately. I think he's starting to show real flashes of talent and it's clear he's the best athlete of the Rams WRs when he is breaking 2-3 tackles. The issue is then he'll make some boneheaded decision right after it to negate the positive effect. My hope is that with Quick being 2nd team and Kellen Clemens being 2nd team they'll have some chemistry and do some real damage in the second half.

I'm holding, and probably will continue to hold until this time next year. If he's not making strides by then I'm not sure he'll continue to get the opportunities.

His snap count increased notably last week, and if not for a dropped TD catch he would have had a big day. Unfortunately, that seems to be one of his problems: drops. Between he, Givens, and Austin, Bradford had very little help this season.

I say give it another year. Remember, everyone scouting him knew he was raw. Him being useless his first year wasn't necessarily cause for alarm. This is about the time he should start making some strides and figuring stuff out, but it might be year three before it all clicks. Patterson's going through the same thing this year, but it seems people are quick to forget that even though the "3rd year WR" adage is largely irrelevant nowadays, that there are plenty of receivers to whom it actually applies.

Being on the field more and making some plays this year is a positive trend, but it remains to be seen if it continues to increase or stagnates again. The Rams really need to just throw him out there to learn on the job, because he at least has the potential for 'wow' plays that Pettis doesn't.

Dynasty: He was dropped. I happily scooped him up. Holding at least through mid-2014 season. If he does not show signs of the light bub going on by then, I may not drop him but his roster spot is no longer secure.

dropped him last week and no one picked him up, 12 teamer
how big are the rosters?
I was wondering that too...did a check of all my dynasty leagues and he is rostered in every one - Rosters are either 24/25, with one exception of a 30 roster league.
I picked him up off waivers in my dynasty league last week. Willing to give him a year. Some WRs takes three years. People forget that Roddy White took a few years to become a star and so did Reggie Wayne.

His snap count increased notably last week
His percentage of snaps increases only minimally.

They ran less plays against Houston

He played 38% vs Houston, and 43% against Carolina.
Good catch, and true. I suppose the 10 extra snaps and 4 extra targets just gave the impression of him playing more snaps; regardless, he was more involved.

That being said, his snap percentage has been creeping up. It had peaked in game 2, then went down again, but has steadily climbed again the last four weeks: 28%,43%,30%,28%,33%,38%,43%

I dropped him (for now). I am willing to pick him back up if the snaps rise over 50%. I should drop Givens and pick up Quick. Givens is wasting space on my roster, and I think that Quick is the more talented receiver.

I dumped him in the street in a 14 team league. He is still twisting in the wind. He'll never be anything more than a bye week fill in, imo.

I'm liking what I have seen lately, been more involved and seems to be proving (at least a little) what his talent could be. Yes he had the dropped TD but I'm not too discouraged by that. I drafted him back in 2012 been holding ever since in a 30roster league. He is also owned in my 25 roster league which makes me think he should be rostered in all dynasty formats of 20+ rosters.

What do we think about Quick at this point? Physical tools, draft pedigree, has shown flashes...will he emerge and carve out a role in that offense? He seems to have the size and skill set to be a great complement to Austin if he develops, and that offense could be beastly next year...

if they draft a WR like watkins (most think if they keep the 1.2 and trade down they would draft clowney or matthews, but if they trade down in the 1.4-1.6 range, they would draft matthews or watkins), i think the three primary WRs will be watkins, austin and bailey (they also pay cook a lot as a receiving TE, and while he hasn't lived up to the huge week one, he is quietly on schedule to break the franchise receiving record for the position, not insignificant given he played with bradford only six full games).

bailey was just promoted and started last 1-2 games with givens. they seem to be deemphasizing him quick lately.

i'm not optimistic. not trying to be a bummer, but he seems to be missing something. he was overdrafted (STL should have taken the far more pro ready alshon jeffery given they had gaping holes and needed help immediately, not in three to four years from a jerome simpson-like small school project), they fell in love with his workout and saw a young TO. but if you look at appalachian state, the next great WR from there will be the first great WR from there. not a lot of great players at any position. dexter coakley maybe the best.

my biggest issues are that he continued to blow assignments, he isn't detail oriented on things like route depths, so sometimes the QB would fire the ball off his backside before he even turned around for the ball. and he was drafted as a big, physical WR to play big and physical. but he plays small and timid at times (like on a contested deep ball, just standing around and not fighting for it). it would be like if the rams drafted givens as a speedy deep threat, and he turned out to be slow? that wouldn't be good. does he not play big because he isn't getting reps? or is he not getting reps because he isn't playing big? some traits, like toughness, urgency and the athletic competitiveness and determination to attack the ball are, imo, not so much things you can be coached up on, but innate personality and character traits that, as mayock would say, you get up in the morning with or you don't.

but perhaps i'm being too negative and pessimistic? i would say if they draft a WR high next year, that isn't a positive for his future with the rams.

The Giants never drafted WRs well and probably had two or three in the previous 40-50 years. (Even if someone corrects me with 8! no it's nine!) It was downright awful how bad they drafted WRs and their free agents weren't exactly impressive either. IIRC Amani Toomer was retiring-oh you didn't know? Yeah he was their all time leading receiver, really he was. Somehow like the football Gods owed them, everyone they drafted panned out in a big way- Nicks, Manningham, Cruz, even the return guy Denver cut. Out of nowhere, the Giants weren't necessarily an easy team for Ramses Barden to get some time to develop with. Instead he was buried and part of packages to try and get him into games some but it still wasn't much.

Perfect attitude and work ethic. Everyone that went to camp saw a wow one handed grab by him. He never...I don't know what to call it....got angry like he should. He never went after the football with the tenacity of Charles Barkley grabbing a rebound. I felt like he was completely shattered watching the others rise so quickly. In camp, they'd mess around and play keep away of sorts tossing the ball around and he'd push the other wideouts and grab the ball, giggling toss it back, over and over just messing around. On the field he was almost shy-something was off and different. Before he tore his knee, he finally (after a zillion passes) was going after the ball and he put up a good game or two and looked like the potential was about to be shown to the world. He came back shy again. The Gmen would bring him to camp. They probably would "every year" with his great attitude and work ethic, but there was a weird feeling of you are just never gonna go after it are you?

I've followed football a million years, actually been to camps, covered games etc. and never seen a more likable guy with as much potential be as approachable to fans and...never seen anyone like him. The number of Giant fans that became so intrigued by this guy, even when he failed still hoping, was so interesting.

I don't know that Quick is the same athletically. I am not saying he has the same lack of fight in him nor am I saying he has the same great attitude. There is the very same feeling of huge hope yet expectant failure in the Rams fans with Quick. Their draft picks are talented and we actually discussed their 5th WR being promising a few weeks back. The Rams...their 5th...believe that? To me this is oddly familiar.

Go ahead tell me no no he has a shot. He does and I will root for him and his huge potential. It's just eery and I wish he'd dominate a game or do something to make me feel differently.

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch expects Brian Quick's playing time to suffer most if the Kenny Britt signing works out.
In two seasons since getting selected 33rd overall, Quick has totaled just 29 catches for 458 yards and four touchdowns. And like Britt, he's a big-bodied outside wideout that profiles as an "X" receiver. If Britt's knee is right and his head is on straight, Quick may not even get the 361 snaps he saw in 2013.

This is the last year I'll be holding (if I even hold for the entire year) for him to prove he's worth it. Make or break year in my mind.

I'm not sure he's going to make my cuts after my rookie draft (we swell our rosters by 4 until early September). He hasn't progressed the way I would have expected.

1 league I have him as WR9 with only 1 draft pick so I have the space. The other I have him as WR6 but I'm in rebuild and have lots of "no talent" to drop for my picks. I basically have the room to wait, hope, and see.

Brian Quick - WR - Rams

Rams OC Brian Schottenheimer called third-year WR Brian Quick the "most improved player I've seen" at OTAs.

Quick is becoming a bit of a summer superstar in shorts and t-shirts. It didn't translate to the field last season, and we're not taking the bait this year until he proves it in September. With Kenny Britt, a similar player to Quick, now in the fold, Quick's snaps may be even harder to come by in 2014. Quick has mostly been a red-zone-only option since being the No. 33 overall pick in 2012.

He and Britt are terrific athletes. They don't have production to offer. The Rams do have Pettis and Givens who don't offer near as much talent but they did produce and were starters. Tricky calls for the Rams.

It's odd to play it out where the 3rd and 4th WRs are secure and the starters might not be, but I think Bailey and Austin are.

I like Austin and Bailey best in dynasty.

There are reports that Britt looks like he has regained some of his burst, if so, I wouldn't rule out production. If he returns to form (it does seem unlikely, but possible), he could easily be their top WR in 2014, if he avoids injury (another question mark), though he isn't signed beyond this year, and it is unclear what STL would pay to retain him if he blows up.

It is also unclear what to make of the Quick reports. He has reportedly always looked good in practice, but had trouble putting it together in games. Should we think this time will be different? I would only say I don't think he had this level of buzz before. Again, probably not a high percentage play, but if the light went on, he has the physical/athletic ability to have some upside.

Bailey was already taking snaps from Pettis by the end of the season, and appeared to have passed him on the depth chart (but complicating depth chart inferences, his emergence also coincided with Austin missing the last three games). Pettis just isn't explosive and is more of a possession WR.

If Givens were to extend the good things he did as a rookie in 2012 (rather than regress even further than he did in a 2013 soph slump season), he could start.

Just about every STL skill position player (except for Mason) is in a crossroad season. It's almost like everyone could do well if given the opportunity, or everyone could disappoint. Probably a few will bubble up to the top, and a few won't.

I'm not sure but doubt their base set will be a wide open 3 WR attack. They will use 2 TEs at times, a FB at others. If the season were to start today, in 3 WR sets, I think it would be Britt and Givens on the outside and Austin in the slot. In 2 WR sets, I don't think Austin will necessarily be off the field, so there could be some kind of rotation. His speed can stress defenses on the outside in different ways than from the inside. Austin isn't big, so they may put him on some kind of pitch count equivalent for weekly game plans. But that could depend on how well he does and holds up, what the other WRs do.

Once Bailey returns, if Britt or Givens suffer an injury or stumble, I think he is further along than Quick and would be next man up. Baily may be talented enough that if the door is cracked open to a starting job, IMO he could break it down. He reminds me of Derrick Mason.

* Of course, it is possible that none of them lead the team in receiving, like last year, when Jared Cook did.

Brian Quick has been dominating, but we can save that and repeat it every summer. Janoris Jenkins getting roasted on the reg. #RamsCamp

Quick was great tonight. Kenny Britt in mentoring him and teaching him how to use his big body. Britt looks great too. I would love to see Quick and Britt on the outside, Tavon in the slot and Cook at TE. WOW, huge targets and Tavons speed.

This one catches my attention, pre-season or not. I honestly don't expect much from Quick or Britt, but if they end up starting, then they will have value. And why aren't Givens or Tavon starting?

Tavon is "starting" in the slot. He isn't an "outside" receiver. Givens is basically a one-trick pony. Bailey was playing over him toward end of last season.

Besides, it's early. It wouldn't surprise me if the WRs rotate on a regular basis like last season.

Unless he's improved during the offseason I don't see Givens holding off Bailey for the starting job once he's back from suspension. Britt and Quick will be fighting for the other starting spot, but outside of Austin I don't see much fantasy value due to the way they will rotate WR's.

I gotta say this is an excellent move by Fisher-they should both produce or walk and they each are talented enough to excite us if they do produce.

ETA Kudos to Britt for working his way up a new team's ladder

i realize it's not the best time of year for news, but really? Is this guy serious with this video? :lmao:
Gotta admit, I'm a life long Rams fan and implying that video is impressive at all is ridiculous.
Exactly...he was jogging, untouched, no pads, AND the ball almost got away from him...... I am not optimistic of his chances in putting it together this season, or ever, but I'll be watching this preseason just in case.

Yeah, Bailey >>>>>> Givens. Not even close

EARTH CITY, Mo. -- A daily review of the hot topics coming out of St. Louis Rams training camp.

  • On a beautiful night in St. Louis, legendary Rams quarterback Kurt Warner took in the practice as part of his role with NFL Network. Warner spoke to quarterback Sam Bradford, spoke to the media and signed plenty of autographs but really held the crowd's interest when he stayed after practice and threw some passes to receivers Tavon Austin andChris Givens. The crowd, one of the biggest the Rams have had at a training camp practice in St. Louis at 2,291 people, certainly had plenty to watch.
  • And it wasn't limited to what was happening with Warner. The top offense finally found some traction in Sunday's practice and Bradford appeared to settle in a little more as he went through his third consecutive practice. Bradford connected with receiver Kenny Britt a few times, including in the red zone and also found Brian Quick for some big plays. Quick's finest moment came when he ran a deep in during red zone drills and use his frame to box out cornerback Janoris Jenkins for a touchdown. Quick later connected with Bradford again for a deep ball down the left sideline as Bradford threw a good ball with the blitz bearing down. Bradford even drew some cheers from fans who might be worried about his mobility when he took off scrambling in team drills near the end zone. It wasn't all good for the offense though as there were still some leaks in the offensive line and there were a couple of false starts on linemen during red zone team drills.

The early reports of the Rams’ first few days of training camp have revolved mainly around three main players. Rookie Aaron Donald, for example, has received a great deal of attention due to his speed and strength, seemingly turning every “opposing” offensive lineman into a turnstile. Players are gushing about his abilities, and the coaching staff is bigging up his obvious potential. Likewise, Kenny Britt’s comeback tour seems to have got off on the right foot, with the receiver startling many with his big-play ability. This has been mirrored by Brian Quick’s performance in camp, with many fans declaring that the former second-round pick is FINALLY living up to his billing.

These reports have all been followed by the bubble-bursting disclaimer reminding fans that this is training camp and players are far from the front-line competitive experience that cannot be accurately simulated in advance. Most players are not even wearing pads yet. Coverages are soft and the pressure is lifted in order to avoid injuries. Plays are repeated, with regular stops for debriefs from the coaches. In context, one must not get very excited about these reports, or even about comments from coaches and players – after all, what else are they going to say? Interestingly, while these positives are being given significant attention, little is being said about the troubling reports concerning Janoris Jenkins’ struggles in camp. Instead, we are getting excited about how great our special teams units looked.

And this is only natural, especially for fans of a franchise that has had little to celebrate over the past decade. We are desperate for good news, and if Brian Quick catching a touchdown pass in practice over an undrafted free agent gets us excited about him being the next T.O. (remember those comparisons?) then so be it. We will re-read those disclaimers, but we will largely ignore them in an attempt to finally feel good about these blue-and-gold jerseys. As far as I am concerned, any player who cleanly fields a punt in practice is welcome to marry my daughter, and I already have an ‘X’ next to Kenny Britt’s name for the next presidential elections. We have been starved of winning football for so long that I am perfectly willing to invest my current excitement in these early reports, aware as I am that this could make any eventual disappointment even worse. I feel I have earned this and, if only for just a few weeks, it feels good and optimistic to be a Rams fan again.

Quick has the size, strength and skills to be a really good WR. Looks like he might be putting it all together. Would love to see Quick and Britt on the outside, Cook at TE and Tavon in the slot. That's pretty formidable. Lots of size, speed and strength

until he actually does something against the 1's of a team with a different jersey, i'm not buying it at all.
guess it depends on the price, wont be cheaper if he meets your requirements
won't be cheaper, but it'll still be cheap.
he wouldn't be the 1st WR to breakout in year 3. Considering he came from small.school, would be understandable. Price is going up with each report

Brian Quick - WR - Rams

The Rams have been "very encouraged" by the play of third-year WR Brian Quick through the opening week of training camp.

Phil Savage, the Senior Bowl director and former Browns GM, visited Rams camp Tuesday and came away impressed with Quick. Rams coaches believe the production is finally matching Quick's raw speed-size combo. Quick has been getting a ton of reps with the first-team offense, along with Kenny Britt, and appears to be putting his game together. Quick (6'3/218) has 4.50 wheels and was drawing Terrell Owens comps when the Rams took him 33rd overall in 2012.
