NHL Off-Season thread:Down goes Kane! (1 Viewer)

I thought Hiller was going to lose his starting job after tonight, then he has 49 saves vs the B'hawks. It's a strange game sometimes.

5 days off for the Wild suxors. Nice to get some solid practice time in early in the season but c'mon. Couldn't eliminate one back-to-back this season and give them a game in there?

Going to be in Detroit this weekend for hockey, Warrior AAA tourney, anybody gonna be there or got any kids playing?

2008 was a pretty good year as far as the NHL draft goes:

1.1 Stamkos

1.2 Doughty

1.4 Pietrangelo

1.15 Karlsson

Lots of other NHL players but the above are the superstars. Didn't even look after the first round.

What a bust Filatov was compared to the rest of the top-10 Kyle Beach never made it either.

That class was really strong though. Eberle at 22 one of the only good picks the Oilers made in a decade.

Yeah, I remember thinking Beach might be a power forward for a decade. Boedker (1.8) had a hat trick and 4 points last night.

Boston homers....

Is Seth Griffith going to stick, and if so, stay with Lucic and Krejci?

Finally getting to check off one of the things on my to do list and that's going to a Habs game in Montreal against the Caps.

31st of January,1 pm start.

So stoked about this, have seats in the 114 section(friend of a friend has season tickets).

Any tips you guys may have or places to visit while I'm in town?First time in Montreal and since we are making this a weekend trip I want to get in as much good stuff as I can.

TIA!

Yeah, terrible schedule at the start of the season. Nearly a week off is cool in say, January. Not so cool two games into the season.

Yeah--where are you staying and what kinds of things do you want to do? Could be bitterly cold that time of year.

Who are you going with?

Joe Beef and L'Express are the two restaurants I'd go to if I were with the Mrs. Don't wait too long to make a reservation, though. Joe Beef can be especially tough.

If you PM me your email address, I will send you a spreadsheet that my friend used to put together of things to do in Montreal. It's a little dated but I think you will find it useful.

My son's coach is there now with his other son who plays for the Milwaukee Jr. Admirals. In his absence I get to coach my son's Mite team this weekend.

Just looked this thing up, holy crap. Sites all over the metro Detroit area. Do you know where you are gonna be playing yet?
There is a website that is pretty useful as far as tournament sites go:

Whole bunch of teams from Ontario there in my kids 2002 division.

If you want to do the Montreal poutine thing, I recommend La Banquise Open 24 hours and the best of the many, many, many poutine places in the area. I've had some amazing times at Santos (nightclub) as well. Montreal has a nice underground shopping centre that covers much of the downtown and may come in handy in late January. Also, Old Montreal (and Port area) are great, once you get past the touristy/sketchy part, there are some great shops and restaurants. I love Jardin Nelson for a dinner for two, but it's closed for the season.

Old Montreal has been recommended to me now numerous times so that is a must visit for us right now.Poutine is something we want to try and I have been told from many that Schwartz is also something that is a must eat when you visit.

Sounds like the middle of winter is a tough time but from all the rave reviews about the city I'm certain we will have a blast no matter what the conditions are.

How are the fans(besides from being the most noisy)? In other words is it safe for both of us wear teams jerseys?lol

eta:Appreciate all the help in here from all that have chimed in so far!

You're in Canada, no one's going to beat you up for what jersey you wear, eh.

Never really had any trouble at any other barn but it never hurts to ask.As long as you don't act like a fool I never run into any trouble and in fact most places I've been just give you a friendly ribbing but just love the fact you enjoy the sport, yes even in Philly! :lmao:

You will be fine in an opposing jersey.

There are some #######s (guys who boo the US anthem or shine a laser toward the opposing goalie) but they're ok for the most part.

There is a hot chick with GIANT cans sitting right behind the WIngs bench in Toronto.

Oh, and Nyquist is pretty good.
