USWNT is playing China here in San Diego on Thursday. They had a little rally at a bar tonight. Good looking girl that one chick. See you Thursday, girl.

Diego Costa is listed as doubtful (but not off the list) for tomorrow. Arda Turan is out, so Floppo can watch the game without fear of hurting his delicate eyeballs when Iniesta goes down due to a light breeze off the Manzanares.
My dad won tickets to the game, including flight and hotel, in some contest this weekend. He's probably flying in right now.
Is he in Finland or the US?

I'm unbelievably jealous. Please get a full report on the game and atmosphere.

Sweden, and yeah, I've asked about full details, with pics. Apparently part of the price is meeting some of the players, and VIP seating.

Looks like Arthur Blank all but confirmed Atlanta will be the 22nd MLS team
Potential Franchise Names? Go!I'll Start:

Atlanta Airhorns. Let the air-horn become to Atlanta what the vuvuzela is to South Africa! (plus I love alliteration)
The Atlanta team and their 32 Supporters.
The Atlanta Not Going To Be Here Long
Who has a worst rep for pro sports, Atlanta or Miami? Nerve wracking that both are entering the league in the next 3 years.

How about the poll to name the new footbridge at Wembley that was won by the choice Dietmar Hamman, but wasn't used.

Funny - in all seriousness, though, the rumor down here is the Atlanta Terminus FC.
In honor of the terminals at ATL? Not bad -- it's one of the first things I think of when I hear 'Atlanta'.

Along the same lines, I'll throw The Atlanta Shermans and Atlanta Humidities into the ring.

Dembakwi Yomba, US U17 and U18 international just signed a contract with Atletico Madrid. He is 17.

He was born in Sierra Leone but grew up in Georgia and is obviously a US citizen.

Sounds like something that should have been cleared with FIFA first since he is unable to sign a professional contract until age 18. This obviously violates their application of the rules.

Yeah it is confusing. But I don't know if this is a pro contract or something else.

not sure if this got posted:

There’s an update on the injury Julian Green suffered while playing for the United States against Mexico last week.

It’s a dislocated shoulder, and Green is set to miss several weeks of training at Bayern Munich. He’s currently starring for Bayern Munich II, recording 15 goals and 8 assists at the tender age of 18.

wow... he played through a dislocated shoulder?

I've only ever had a dislocated big toe- and it hurt like... the dickens (not to mention freaking me out when I first took the cleats off and saw that the toe nail was basically facing down). I have to assume the shoulder must be debilatatingly painful.

new-found respect for the kid.

Did he keep playing after that dislocation?
yes. he lost a tackle or header (when Mexico scored their 2nd goal, IIRC) and went down in a heap. looked more embarrassed than anything else at the time... but he went to the sidelines for some treatment and came back out. Did pretty well after returning to the field.

btw- was watching the end of a Copa Libertadores game last night that had the other game from the group split or small-screened for much of the last 10 or 15 minutes.

First off, I love that competition- some great individual talents on some tactically dicey teams means lots of open ended play. The players, fans and games also tend to run... hot. Like :hot: hot. The other game had a PK called late in the game... players from the offending team literally assaulted the referee who seemed to just stand there (looking like a deer in the headlights) and take it. I didn't even see a card issued, despite him getting shoved around like poor Iniesta against AM. On top of that, those players do more diving AND hacking than anywhere on the planet.

Worth a watch if you get the chance.

Yes, but I'll be less so when either the appeal is upheld or the Madrids start getting banned for doing the same damn thing.

It cannot be a pro contract so it is an example of someone moving more than 50km to join an academy for football reasons.

I'll be going into media blackout soon. Per uefa.com here are the lineups for today:

Bayern: Neuer, Dante, Boateng, Lahm©, Ribéry, Robben, Götze, Müller, Alaba, Kroos, Mandžukić

Man U: De Gea, Evra, Jones, Smalling, Vidić©, Carrick, Fletcher, Valencia, Kagawa, Rooney, Welbeck

With Bayern's last three matches being Draw, Draw, Loss, I'm pretty nervous. Hopefully those results will inspire Bayern to not only possess the ball, but actually put it in the net a few times as well.

Hasn't Bayern been rotating their squad pretty heavily since they wrapped up the Bundesliga?

I would be surprised if Bayern didn't win by 2+ today.

True, both league matches were sub heavy. This helps with my nerves, but the draw with Manchester and their form the last few matches does not.

I know Bayern's run will end, maybe this year, but please not today in Munich against ManU.
