Derrick Morgan OLB? (1 Viewer)

The Titans this week added LB to the position description of Derrick Morgan andKamerion Wimbley, who have previously played defensive end for the Titans. Wimbley has experience as a linebacker in 3-4 defenses during his pro career, but 2014 could be the first action for Morgan, the team’s first-round pick in 2010. Whisenhunt was asked about Morgan’s expanded description.

“He’s an athletic guy. We’re going to ask him to do a lot of things because we think he can,” Whisenhunt said. “Part of this process is going to be, ‘What does he do well?’ and ‘How can we use him in different ways to make him as effective as we possibly can?’ ”

Morgan will still be a valuable member of the Titans D, but his fantasy value has fallen far with the move.

Casey's value also falls big time in DT required leagues.

They didn't add DE to Casey (yet).
Doesn't matter until the season starts. But he should be changed by then.
They have almost $4M reasons to continue to list him as a DT.

Franchise tagsDefensive end: $13.116 million

Defensive tackle: $9.654 million

Winning is more important. We'll see of course, but he seems to fit better at DE in the 3-4

How the Titans decide to "list him" has no affect on their win/loss results, nor where he lines up. I.e., they can list him as a DT but still have him play the 5-tech in base 3-4, and 3-tech in hybrid fronts.

Fair enough. But potential salary won't be the reason they would list him as DT.

After 3 day mini-camp, what the Titans want to do is move most of their defenders around; have them capable of playing more than one position.

Could be "a bit much" or could make it very difficult for opposing QBs to plan for and break down quickly at the line.

Morgan played each DL spot and both OLB spots.

There's a bunch of articles about the recent minicamp.

All the movement could be to instill communication and understanding of the other positions in his new scheme.

Gooden and Brown should be inside and with the vacancy that creates, I figure Morgan is an OLB.

Gooden is sure fast enough, but can he shed blockers well enough to be a middle LB in their 4-3 lineup? Wondering what will just be athleticism and what he can truly do.

I'm not used to him yet, but trying to read him-Whisenhunt is annoyed with Akeem being absent. I don't know why him and not others that are missing but that's the way it seems.

Also, fwiw, if I'm guessing on reading Whis, they draft a CB and he is just OK and unexcited about the group.

Was hoping Wreh-Wilson could be a good pickup this year.

Bumping this thread to see if anyone can comment on Morgan's play this season. In Yahoo, at least, Morgan maintains an LB/DE designation and seems to have a pretty high floor relative to other boom/bust DE's.

All of his 3.5 sacks have come in the last 5 games with decent consistency so maybe finally adjusting to Ray Horton's system? Roughly 80-90% of snaps during that timeframe.

A decent comp might be Clay Mathews-light?

Neither Bramel nor Norton have commented much about him so hoping some Forum members could offer an assessment.

Sorry, nothing to offer but I'm interested in this too as he's still DE eligible in ESPN too and I just picked him up. Looks like he could have a pretty good floor compared to most DEs, but as you say, it's only really in the last few weeks that he's been putting up numbers.
