Seattle thinks they have a plug and play type of team. I think Lynch is one of those guys that you can't just plug in the next guy. Time will tell.
Apart from a Peyton Manning quarterbacked Broncos offense, is there such a thing as a plug-and-play offense in the NFL? Because I have a hard time thinking of one.
Sure there is. They aren't effective or efficient usually but almost all teams have a "next man up" mentality. It's just those cocky teams that let it blind them to being practical about it.
I'm pretty certain Carroll routinely preaches about the best player starting/playing. I didn't see him do this when the team was 7-9 so I wouldn't expect him to change his philosophy this year either.

Did the keep running Aaron Curry out there or did they put in the 5th round draft pick (KJ Wright)? Did he stick with Matt Flynn or play the 3rd round rookie QB? IMO Carroll absolutely has stuck to his guns with regard to this ideology. All those starters have absolutely won their starting jobs and I believe they know they will get yanked if they don't perform. They were ready to cut Percy Harvin from the team. I think that sends a message to the entire locker room.

You guys are right about that. The Seahawks just better be right about picking the right guy. Wilson and wright look like genius moves...because they were. But it sometimes goes both ways, like when the Patriots let Welker walk. They still haven't replaced him and it shows.

IF they move from Lynch and Harvin and it turns out to be the wrong move, that is very impactful.

It took me a long time (about 20 years), but eventually I started to see that there are LOTS of guys on NFL benches that can be stars. They only need the opportunity.

I think this is especially true at the RB position. Not so much because the RBs are special, but many of them walk into a chance to play behind a great O-line. Way too often fans think the RB is awesome when its really the O-line that's making them look great. We saw this for years in Seattle with Alexander. Hutchinson and Jones made Alexander look like a monster when IMO he was just another guy. This said, I do think Lynch is a special back. He's shown this over the past several years by leading the league in yards after contact. He really is a beast.

A little surprising to see Michael get a red zone carry on the first series. He almost scored on an 8 yard run
Yeah that's a little early for Lynch to get a breather. Next year will be interesting if the reports of Seattle being done with beast mode are true. Turbin and Michael would make a good duo.

Had a big hole on the long run but still looked really good today. Explosive, nice stiff arm, fought towards the endzone at the end of the run.

It's only a matter of time. He was two yards away from 4-78-2 yesterday.
I know there's a lot of hyperbole and rhetoric in this thread but two of those runs were *wide* open. Now, he did more than I believe Turbin would have done with those carries but still there was at least 30 yards of his total that went straight forward untouched.

As much as I'd love to blow the train whistle and yell "all board!" there is still reason to be more conservative here.

Fingers crossed Seahawks don't do well enough to give Marshawn a career achievement award contract and instead test some young blood in 2015.

Injury is the only other way. Michael looks good but Beast Mode has plenty gas in the tank. SJax is still fantasy relevant for crying out loud.

Lynch looks awesome, but everything changes when you pay your QB 20 Million/year. Sherman jumps from a 3.7 cap number in 2014 to 12.2 in 2015. Between those two players alone, Seattle is looking at roughly 27.5 million more in cap money.

They will save $7 million in cap space by cutting Lynch after June 1
Didn't Seattle learn this lesson with Golden Tate? Sure just let him go, we have backups/rookies that can take his place...oooof.
There are few positions as low on the totem pole as RB to a NFL team. Especially RBs that are soon to be 29 year old. Lynch is special, I'll grant you that. But at the end of the day, they are gonna have to make it work with the cap. Its the price of winning a championship.

I agree, but I don't think it's a sure thing he's gone. It's definitely not as sure considering Michael hasn't hit the ground running in his 1.5 years in the NFL.

Seattle just saved 7.7 million this season on the Percy Harvin trade. They also took 10.5 million off the books in 2015 and 9.9 in 2016. Who knows what the numbers need to be for Lynch to stay or Lynch to go.

I'll be honest. I am less confident Lynch is a goner next year, both because Lynch is playing great and because Wilson has been less than elite in past weeks. Lynch has never looked more important to the team than he does right now. I hope CMike gets his chance next year, but I won't be surprised if Seattle comes up with some combination of cap savings to keep Lynch.

Obviously Russell Wilson tops the list of prioritized contracts, but bolded are the ones they will prioritize assuming the pricing is right. Left off of here is Malcolm Smith who was obviously the SB MVP (I still think Chancellor should have won it) but with Bobby Wagner, K.J. Wright, and Bruce Irvin playing the way they are, and with Kevin Pierre-Louis doing as great as he is, I think Smith liked priced himself out.

After that, Byron Maxwell, James Carpenter, and Deshawn Shead are next and maybe Kearse if he can start getting better separation (otherwise he'll go in the next group). Given how crappy the special teams have been I wonder if they consider bringing back Heath Farwell as a cheap replacement LB with elite ST skills.

Beyond that though I don't see anyone being above the minimum salary.

It's not making headlines, but Michael is slowly getting more touches. He's played fine and I think he's earning more touches, but last night he made one big mistake that seemed to go unnoticed. On a second down 12 yard reception he came up just short of the sticks when he hesitated. I think he was looking for a bigger play that just wasn't there. Seattle struggled all night in short yardage and it ended up killing the drive. Something about that play really bothered me. The lack of instinct to move the sticks first and foremost. It seemed an obvious situation where he should have lowered the shoulders and made sure he got the first down. I don't know, perhaps I'm over analyzing it.

It looked like a bad spot that they should have reviewed.

My concern wasn't the first down, it was the lack of effort that was bothersome. He needed 13, but pulled up at 11 looking indecisive. Again, probably over analyzing his choice in the moment.

Don't know how Carroll missed that one. Obviously had the first down, very bad spot.

It was tough as he did step out of bounds and it would have been difficult for the ref to know exactly where the ball was due to his positioning. It was a bummer end to his nice catch and run. It's worth mentioning he did also have a very nice run for about 8 and a first down late in the 4th quarter where he clearly saw and extended well past the marker so someone probably talked to him during the game as well.

At least he's applying the lessons taught. I'm sure they'll go over it again during this week.

I'm not sure how he's getting more touches?

week 13-3 touches

week 12-no touches

week 11-1 touches

weeks 8-10-4 touches each week

week 7-2 touches

He's no more involved than he has been at any time this year?

Prior to week 7 how many touches did he have combined? This is the most he's been used since joining the Seahawks.

If you want to look at it that way, OK.

You could also say that in his 3 games from 2013, he averaged 6 touches/game, while in his 6 games from 2014, he is averaging 3.1 touches/game.

It's all relative, but when I looked at the post, I imagined him getting 5-10 touches/game, developing into a more legit COP, breather back. It seems he is exactly what he has been so far: a RB who gets a touch here or there, but nothing consistent or (for FF purposes), useful.

Reports coming out that the Seahawks are offering Lynch $10m for 2015, and a long-term deal to keep him for the rest of his career.

(If true) It's hard to read how much of this is lack of trust in Michael/Turbin and how much is just rewarding your good players and recognizing that Lynch is the soul of the team, but it's obviously not good news for Michael owners.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports the Seahawks have offered Marshawn Lynch "a huge contract extension that would keep him in a Seahawks uniform for years to come."

It's believed the deal would make Lynch the highest-paid running back in terms of annual average not named Adrian Peterson. It's a big swing of events after it's been rumored for the better part of a calendar year now that 2014 could be Lynch's final season in Seattle due to age, inflated salary, and edginess. Per RapSheet, the new deal would pay Lynch around $10 million next season.

Of course they can keep him.

Just depends who they decide to let go because of it.

I would be rather surprised if they did sign him to this new big extension though

They let Percy Harvin go to keep him.

As a Michael owner with the 1st and 2nd picks in a dyno, its bittersweet if true. I'm glad to see that Gordon and Gurley will be on other teams. Michael gets shelved again unless they trade him away.

I'm not sure they'll need to release anyone. Their current cap for 2015 is $119M with an expected cap of $140m. Both Russell Wilson and Bobby Wagner have new extensions but both of those will be largely signing bonus in year 1 which is also spread across the first 5 years of the new contract.
