PHIL HUGHES SUCKED AS A YANKEE! (1 Viewer)

Raider Nation

Devil's Advocate
Got tired of saying this 1,000 times in the Yankee thread. Better chance of this showing up in a Google search.

Hopefully Phil Hughes searches for Phil Hughes on Google, so that he may find this thread and fully realize WHAT A USELESS, PAYCHECK-STEALING PIECE OF SH-T PHIL HUGHES IS!!!

There, I feel better now.

I'll resist the urge to start similar threads about Joba and Logan.

Step right up!

Right-hander Phil Hughes just lost his spot in the Yankees' starting rotation. And now he's lost just about all chance for the Yankees to make him a qualifying offer.

Don't laugh.

Yankees people, as recently as the trade deadline, were suggesting to other teams that they may make the qualifying offer, which is expected to be for about $13.8 million, to Hughes.

According to rivals, Yankees general manager Brian Cashman was saying back in July when trade talks were going on that they "may" extend the qualifying offer to Hughes. But things changed with Hughes' souring fortune; he's 0-6 in his last 10 starts. And one competing GM said recently about the idea of the Yankees possibly extending that offer to Hughes, tongue in cheek, "They may make a qualifying offer. And I may run for president."

Back at the deadline, though, it didn't seem quite as far-fetched that the Yankees may make Hughes the qualifying offer. The starting pitching market is decidedly thin, Hughes is the youngest established starter available at a just-turned 27, and there's a general belief that he'd be much better away from Yankee Stadium, which is backed up by the numbers. (Those numbers show a 1-9 record and 5.68 ERA at home and a 3-4 mark coupled with 3.84 away from home.)

Cashman, asked within the past couple weeks about the viability of giving Hughes a qualifying offer, declined comment on the team's plans, as has been their public stance on such things. The Yankees benefitted last year by extending qualifying offers to Nick Swisher and Rafael Soriano, and they picked up two extra first-round picks when those two players signed elsewhere.

Now it looks like the Yankees will get nothing for Hughes, who is down to 4-13 with a 4.86 ERA after his recent slide.

While the Yankees found the Hughes trade market decidedly underwhelming (at least two N.L. teams showed interest but no one came close to trading for Hughes), there aren't many young starters free this year so someone will take a chance on him.

In the meantime, he's in the pen for the Yankees.

So far he reminds me of Kyle Lohse when the Twins had him. Great arm, good stuff, weak mentally, loses focus, goes off a cliff at around the 6th inning. Kinda sucks. I want to like this guy because he represents the kind of player the Twins should have been going after the last 10 years aka, a right hander with a good fastball. I hope he gets a clue at some point.

BFD, honestly. He had plenty of chances to pitch in the spotlight - in a place where baseball matters - and he wet himself more often than not.

Yep, credit where it's due.... he's dealing.

Doesn't change the fact that he didn't have the heart to pitch in Yankee Stadium, but can't take anything away from him now.

7 shut out innings against a good hitting Blue Jay team on the road, and with 9K. I think the Twins signed him for 3 years at 24m, has to be the biggest steal of the year

No bumps from the Hughes lap dogs today?
Another start another win for Hughes, Yankee fans have to be going crazy after letting him go for nothing, and at 8M a year for three years what a bargain for the Twins. I think we be seeing Mr. Hughes at the All Star game. Come back player of the year here :excited:

The Yankees still play in Yankee Stadium, last I checked. He proved time and again he couldn't handle pitching for the home team in that park. Part fly-ball pitcher/part mental midget. Why on earth would they want him back?

Guy's ERA is more than a full run higher at home than on the road over his career. Home WHIP is 1.36 as opposed to 1.24 on the road. He has given up more than TWICE as many homers at home than on the road. And his career ERA with Posada is 4.06 which is far lower than his career mark of 4.41.

There are a lot of words in your post, but it was Yankee Stadium. He may be a slightly better pitcher now but I think a lot of it comes from the comfort of knowing that every flyball will not be a home run. That's pretty much it.

Exactly, which is what I predicted would happen if he went to a team with a bigger ballpark. He was never going to succeed in the Yankee Stadium bandbox

So he gave up 3 hits and 2 runs in a WIN at yankee stadium this year, the kid is only 27 years old, anyone can have a bad year, but not coming off of a injury, he just needed some positive reinforcement, the Yankees don't have the time to develop anyone, the Twins will be sending their thank you card to the Yankees shortly
