Foster's Backup - Are you Brown or Blue? (1 Viewer)

Just looking for some people's opinions on who they think backs up Foster in Houston this year after what happened in the preseason game vs. Arizona where Brown didn't see the field and some are inferring that O'Brien may have him as last on the depth chart. While it may not matter because the Texans may be going back to back with the first pick in the draft, someone will have to run the ball. It is hard to believe that Foster is going to be healthy enough to carry the load all year for them, if at all, given his offseason. So did they acquire Brown as a FA for just this type of situation or is the rookie Blue going to become the guy there (assuming Foster misses time)? Seems to me that they might be protecting Brown, who has his own injury history, to make sure he didn't get hurt in that game last week, which may also lead us to believe the Foster situation is worse than being let on. Either way, even if Foster is healthy to start the year, there will be carries for another RB on this team. Thoughts?

I've watched a lot of Alfred Blue in college and do not understand why there's so much buzz about him.

I don't trust Andre Brown because he's made of glass, so I choose neither but if I had to choose one it'd be him.

Uh...

When asked about Andre Brown, coach Bill O'Brien said running back is a "tough spot."

It was a nice way of O'Brien confirming that Brown is behind Jonathan Grimes and Alfred Blue right now. "It is what it is," Brown said. "Whatever happens, happens." With Arian Foster such a massive injury risk, owners need to be making adjustments on their roster. Brown has a ton of depth chart climbing to do.

Jonathan Grimes. He was running with the 1st team in practice all week getting a ton of reps. Did very well in the game considering how bad the passing was.

I don't see how Blue is more talented. But O'Brien was quoted as saying both guys are 3-down backs.

It would seem to me that if Brown isn't the clear cut backup, which it is sounding like that is the case, then this whole situation is a complete avoid I guess. My problem is that in my gut, I just can't imagine that Brown is getting beat out by these other two guys after they paid to bring him in for the very situation of Foster missing time. I could be wrong but I am getting a distinct impression that O'Brien could be in and out of the NFL very quickly ala Chud or Schianno. Seemed pretty clueless during/after game this week and the fact that he did nothing to help his team at QB when options were available seems to indicate a long season. I don't see Foster being up for battling through a 2-14 season again either.

I don't see how Brown isn't the backup either. Brown to me is the type of guy that is either your backup or he's not on your roster, I don't see any reason to keep him around as your 3rd or 4th RB. He's not a developmental guy that you're going to give a couple years to see how he pans out. You either like him as he is or you don't.

i noticed he was with the 1s but was brown practicing at all?

What's the story on Grimes? Small school guy, didn't know much about him coming into the league, got some buzz, but then didn't do anything/bounced around for a while.

I'm partial to the unknown in cases like this (the other options are not adequate), but why hasn't he stuck anywhere yet if he is any good?

It's hard to believe they have given up that fast on Brown, and maybe O'Brien was not on board with bringing him in in the first place. Either way reality always trumps perception so it would seem that Brown's days are numbered in Houston. Could end up a blessing in disguise for him and may even wind up back in NY if he gets cut imo.

That is why this is such a story. Brown was listed as the starter when the game started Saturday and the announcers said Brown with the carry on the first drive but it was actually Grimes in there.

If Brown has has dropped that far in a day, he must have slept with the coaches wife or shot a guy.

Hmm...what this tells me is more about Foster than about Brown or the other RBs. Seems like the Texans are hitting the panic button at RB which must mean they too know that Foster is in trouble and not long for this season. Brown seems likely to get cut at this point. Leonard probably a good fit there of those three.

What a crazy turn, this is why FF is so fun, sometimes you just never know.

I don't think there's any question it'll be Brown. At least until they're playing for next year.
Brown and Johnson released today. Grimes and Blue number 2 and 3 now.

Well I guess I was right, but I didn't see this coming.

@evansilva: Andre Brown lasted a month on FA market, and #Texans gave him minimum salary/no signing bonus. Not so sure he'll be snapped up quickly.

Safe to drop in dynasty?

there's still hope
Yes there is still hope for Brown. You can collect the whole set of Texans RBs if you like:mad:McClain_on_NFL: Ronnie Brown and William Powell join RBs Arian Foster, Jonathan Grimes and Alfred Blue on roster.
Is this a lot at this time of year?

I don't think so, but seems like a sign that there is either concern over Foster, concern with the backups or both.

Blue was drafted in my 12 team (roster 18) league, and grimes was not. Grimes should be on a roster, right? He's the #2 there and at least in a rbbc with blue if foster goes down, right?
