Five Guys thread, a 130+ page swordfight. (1 Viewer)

Been doing really well on my new diet plan of not eating this crap at all but every now and then it happens or I'm weak. Promised myself no matter what though I would stay away from McDonalds or Burger King. Well....

Most recently I broke down because, hey, I'm a guy, and ordered some awesomeness that is White Castle. Still awesome. I felt miserable and awesome at the same time while eating. I imagine I was like a really fat girl who eats the entire box of donuts in the car. Don't care. Still love it.

Last friday had no choice (and by no choice I mean I was hungry and needed to eat and the only thing close at the time was...) so I hit a Burger King. Just miserable awful. The fries were fresh out of the fryer so they were good, though they will never be as good as McD's fries, but the burger was just hideous. Vowed again to never go to that place ever again. I need to stick to that this time.

ETA:.... the whole point being that I've never had 5 guys or In&Out. I'm going to have to try them when I get a chance but there are none near me in any reasonable amount of distance.

For me Burger Fi and Five guys fries are boss. The best in fast food. McDonalds when they are fresh out of the fryer are still really good (of course they were better when they fried them in pure lard fat back in the 70's and 80's when I could eat that crap as a kid and burn it off in a day).

I love Five Guys Fries. Really tasty. Their burgers are good. Not great but good. Burger Fi has great burgers, fries and onion rings. Their Chicago dog is also really good for a chain joint. For about a buck or 2 more...I much rather have a cheat day and grab a burger and small fry at Burger Fi.

Mcdonalds is too expensive save for their original hamburger/cheeseburger. It's offensive what they charge for a QP with cheese or Big Mac meal. Just offensive.

Depending on where you are in the OC... and if you like the Habit... I recommend checking out TK Burger. Had it yesterday and good lord was that a tasty burger. Highly recommended.

When I lived in Newport we loved TK Burger, now up in NOC dont get by there very much. I do like the Habit a lot but no drive thru sometimes makes it less appealing then other quick places.

They just opened two new Habits and a 5 Guys near me. The 5 guys is accross the street from one of the Habits.

Yeah there's one on Bristol south of SCP if you're ever down this way. I used to go to that location when it was a Tastee-Freez back in the day.

The Habit in Irvine on Barranca has a drive-thru which creates a ginormous cluster-eff in the parking lot. They try to alleviate it with a worker out there taking orders on a little tablet but it's still a mess.

This is killing my attempt at eating better. Today, Flame Broiler.... brown rice, chicken and veggies. :fat:

I had my first In-N-Out experience recently, and I have to say that I was thoroughly underwhelmed. The excessive hype may have had something to do with it, but I would take a Five Guys burger over it any day.

But really, I'm a thick burger guy. Thin patties are for chumps.
Get the 8x8 next time.
They don't do that anymore, won't let you get anything bigger than a 3x3. Last time I went there I had to order a 3x3 and a 2x2. I'm assuming it's to avoid some stupid litigation in case someone keels over while eating a 4x4 or greater. So dumb.

The In n Out on Bristol by SCP has the same issue except the line ran out into the street. Or it used too.

Been meaning to go to the flame broiler. Co-worker goes weekly.

I don't know, I never tried more cheese than patties. I was just looking at the In & Out website they still have the 4x4 listed on their "secret menu" page and Wiki still lists the 4x4 as being orderable. I wonder if there was a miscommunication on my last visit they only allowed me to order a 3x3 max.

The In-n-Out on 19th in Costa Mesa (an oldie) is always jammed up, traffic backing up out on the side street and usually onto 19th.

Flam Broiler was meh. Busy as heck though. Definitely good enough for a couple times a week if you're watching what you eat.

I got shuke in on the "what constitutes a sandwich" argument a few years back. I still think the answer is unresolved.

Makes me think of one of the first internet funnies I saw... probably around 1993.

I think Schwan's delivery could be considered fast food. They come to your house and most of the goods are microwaveable. It's like a drive thru except the drive thru comes to you.

I remember back in HS when we could have the Schwan man deliver food. Their tacquitos were pretty money.

Is the EZ Take Out still over there in CM?

In N Out knock off with better food IMO. Exact same menu and look.

A Five Guys cheeseburger is equivalent in size to an In N Out 3x3:

Five Guys: 303g, 840 calories, 500 calories from fat, 55g total fat, 26.5g saturated fat, 0g trans fat, 165 mg cholesterol, 1050 mg sodium, 40g carbs, 2g fiber, 9g sugar, 47g protein

3x3: 392g, 860 calories, 500 calories from fat, 55g total fat, 26g saturated fat, 0g trans fat, 180 mg cholesterol, 1,880 mg sodium, 39g carbs, 3g fiber, 10g sugar, 52g protein

Way too much sodium in In N Out burgers.

Over on 17th? I used to live right by there, and no they closed... I forget what it is now.

I used to kill their double cheeseburgers on Sunday afternoons watching NFL.

Sodium is a killer. Hard to avoid under any non-swish male diet, but eating this stuff regularly for lunch is going to shorten your life.

Says the guy with a healthy drinking habit and lungs like London during the Industrial Revolution.

It's now called Wedge Burger. Doesn't look like much has changed. Worth a shot.
