Add/Drop and Waiver Wire wonderment thread: Do you still own Domingo Santana? (3 Viewers)

No way I would trade Bruce for segura.

Depends on what you need, but lowrie should be good for some homers. I think that Crawford is a decent all around hitter according to his batted ball profile. Not sure that either would be better than betts though.

On a similar subject, at what point should I shoot myself in the head for continuing to draft Martin Prado every season and hanging on to him for too long?
Prado will rise! 3 position eligibility!
This is why I fall for it every year, except that I now have Bonifacio that fills the exact same role (right down to the lack of HR so far).
In Prado We Trust.

Kept him and dropped Bonifacio for Singleton.

:hifive:
ok, i quit yesterday. dropped him for betts. hope he gets IF eligibility soon.

I need a solution at SS. Im currently starting Mookie Betts (eligible in Yahoo).

Guys like Jed Lowrie, Andrelton Simmons, and Brandon Crawford are on the wire. There is another owner with Jean Segura on his bench right now. Im also thinking of offering Jay Bruce for him.

Any thoughts? Anything else I should consider, like prospects likely to be called up?
bruce isn't the right guy to deal, but trading for Segura now is a good idea.

I really like Lowre and Crawford to turn it around. But a SS that doesn't steal can be a problem.

If you need steals from your SS, as most people do, I'd just roll with Betts unless Segura is really cheap (Bruce ain't cheap)

Thanks for the responses guys. Bruce seemed like my most expendable hitter, or maybe Starling Marte, but I want/need Marte's SBs.

How about some pitchers I grabbed off the wire a little while ago: Jesse Hahn and Taijuan Walker?

I hate young pitchers, especially over-hyped and expensive ones, but I'm buying shares of Jake Ordorizzi who I think people are sleeping on.

Probably not the best road start in Baltimore or New York but his advanced metrics are all favorable to extremely favorable, and he's a power pitcher bringing lots of ks. Probably a good guy to spot start in Tampa and could develop into much more in keepers.

has he started getting better the third time through the order? Been his problem and why I have stayed away. Been keeping my eye on him though, sorta.

Over his last five starts opponents have a .562 OPS against him, and his baseline XFip, BABIP, and K/9 numbers are all positively correlated.

He has also been excellent at home with a WHIP around 1, compared to a 1.63 road WHIP.

:goodposting:

I need another starter to keep up with the ip pace, keep looking at him, and keep passing. We do qs, which is a big reason why, but a good start this week and I'll take the flier for post all star break. Maybe next week if encarnacion is out too.

Re: Odorizzi

Here are his BAA by time through the order for April:

.154, .395, .500

OBP: .214, .465, .583

SLG: .209, .465, .667

Here they are for May:

.133, .319, .211

.240, .442, .429

.192, .592, .208

;

And here they are for June:

.136, .225, .192

.156, .311, .276

.156, .200, .433

So it would appear that his issues with getting rocked later in games are more or less under control.

Anyone think 2-start Verlander (vLAD and @KC) is worth it over Yordano @ TB or Lackey @ Hou.

My opponent has Wainwright and Hamels with 2 starts each, plus Bumgarner. This is a points league. I have Price v TOR as my other starter, but I fear getting slammed in pitching and wonder if Verlander is worth the risk over either Yordano or Lackey.

Others on bench

Keuchel @Tex

Cobb v KC

Cole @ STL

In a points H2H league, I'd def. go with Verlander.

How long do I hold on to Carlos Quentin in a 16 team league?
I think it is pretty safe to drop. He is the 175th-ranked OF on the ESPN player rater. LD rate of 8.8%
Is that an accumulative rating? He missed a good chunk at the start of the season. He's been hurt often, but still managed >.850 OPS past few years. He has to turn it around, right?
He has 7 hits in the past month. He's supposedly having problems with his shoulder but that's what you sign on for when you draft Quentin. He's not in a straight platoon but his playing time has been a bit erratic. The only positives are that he's still batting in the heart of the order when he does play, and that he might get traded away from Petco this month.

Yes, but Mookie Betts has played in 5 games and is already ahead of him. Coming back from the injury and not hitting the ball well at all and playing in Petco with an unclear OF rotation would make me feel pretty comfortable dropping him.

Of course, it does depend on the options, but that's my overall feeling.

Charlie morton @stl, @cin or santana @nym or skaggs vs TOR, @Tex

Was scared of those matchups for morton but they really arent that good when you look on paper.

ONODORIZZI!!!!!!!!
Recovered nicely. Shame that Shields picked tonight to remember how to pitch
Yeah, in fact that actually is more encouraging than discouraging. He allowed seven baserunners and had just one K through three, allowed one baserunner and k'd seven over his last three.

ETA: KC is the hardest team in baseball to strike out

I know I'm going to regret start Weaver tonight, but his home/road splits are pretty drastic and I need the innings.

pretty good vs righties too, glad I resisted tonight although the final line is not bad and the ks are still there.

ALERT

  • Los Angeles Angels pitcher Jered Weaver left the game with an apparent injury.

Why optimistic on segura?

A 264 BABIP for a guy with his speed and GB rate is absurd. Just about all of his periph's are at worst equal to last year. I didn't think his first half power from 2013 would translate, but I still think he's more of a 285-300 bat, which will in turn lead to more steals too.

This is going well.

The only concern about Tanaka was his velocity was down his last start vs Baltimore. Hopefully that was just a blip and nothing to be concerned about. Otherwise, facing a team a second time doesnt concern me. He dominated Toronto the second time he faced them.
Sounds like this was a red flag

Kluber or Mad Bum for the rest of this year?
Tough call. Kluber seems less prone to blow-ups this season, and MadBum has been seriously struggling lately. I really like MB and I think he'll have a much better second half, but I'll take Kluber based on his amazing consistency over the past 12 months.

I need to pickup a couple starters after losing Tanaka and Estrada this week. The usual dreck is available on the wire. Chris Young, Bart Colon, Volquez, Vogelsong, Collmenter, Gibson, Miley, Danks, etc. Anyone like any of these guys or have their eyes on another up-and-comer? Its a keeper league with a ML roster, so none of the decent prospects are available.

Jimmy Nelson available? Out of that list Id take Colon

Odorizzi has a Toronto team down two of their three big bats. Hutchinson gets Tampa, who hasn't been able to hit the broad side of the barn for months. Apparently Bauer is only 2% owned and gets the White Sox at home. If you're feeling real crazy, Maholm gets the Pads at home at night.

Otherwise I'd wait until the All Star break and see what rotations are looking like post break.
