Nothing wrong with a Powercolor. It looks like the value for high performance cards right now is the 7970 for just over $300.
Yah, I'm looking more at mid-range, budget was less than $200, closer to $150 was ideal. Looks like after the rebate I may hit that on the nose.

Played a couple of rounds of Obliteration. It was more fun than I thought it was going to be. Reminds me of Push in TFC, except with 3 goals per team.
I think this is going to be very dependent on finding a good server or good team. You get the team where 5-10 guys decide to play sniper from the roofs...it isn't going to be pretty.

What's the difference in the 7970 and a GTX 760 4GB?

I saw a Sapphire 7950 for 189 after rebate. Comes with 3 games that people say you can ebay for 25. It was at Tiger Direct.
Oof, this is a really good deal on the 7950. I wish I'd seen this, I ordered the Powercooler listed above. Granted, I'll end up saving about $40 over this one, but the main thing I'm concerned about with the Powercooler was the cooling unit (single fan, some reports of it running hot). Plus having had Sapphire's for my last few cards means I'm relatively familiar with them.

I get 2 free games with the Powercooler, but was probably going to go ahead and redeem those rather than sell the coupon. Probably FarCry3 and Sniper Elite 2.

Beta update today. Wipes out all previous stats and settings, so expect to redo your key binds and setup when you get into the game. In addition, it appears that the new update lowers my FPS by an average of 10 FPS. But, most people that were having trouble getting into a game can finally get in to knock a building down.

I don't know what the update was officially supposed to fix. I'll let TLEF look into that. So far, I haven't seen anything good about it.

My stats are still showing in battlelog, but I haven't played the game in a few days. Seeing lots of reports of the patch hurting performance. LOL

I'm actually debating upgrading to windows 8 as it apparently comes with a pretty significant performance increase for the game. I'll probably wait until I get a new vid card after release. If I feel I could use the extra FPS, maybe I'll give it a look.

The new patch unlocked obliteration mode, but on the same map. I was hoping they'd give us a crack at Paracel storm. :kicksrock:
Hmmm....interesting. If it does then I'm seriously going to as well.

you think two GTX 570's are still good enough? Would you recommend an upgrade?

I'm sure my one 570 would be a more than playable. But since my card is a few years old now and BF is my favorite game, I feel ok with dropping a few bills to get the best experience possible.

Per this article the guys over at Tom's Hardware are recommending at least a Gtx 660 (just above the 570 on the hierarchy chart) or a 7870 if you want to play the game on high at 1080P. I'm guessing dual 570's probably outperform one 660, so you're probably fine.

My new card came in today. That was extremely quick, particularly since I choose the free "saver" shipping at Newegg. Tracking said the card shouldn't be here until Monday = bonus! Gonna go in game soon and see how things perform.

 I'll be there. Let me know how it goes.

AMD just released their new cards. Holy crap, they are amazing value. They are the R9 cards, definitely need to look at those.

Just went and looked, the Powercooler I bought was back up at $195 after rebate (I got it for $150 after rebate).

FYI, the R9 270X is basically (in many cases) the same card as the Tahiti 7870s. A lot of the R9 (not all) is just rebranding existing cards. Lots of confusion going on in the round.

waiting for the Tom's hardware "best value cards for October" article to drop (probably next week) and then I'll make my card decision.

I have not played a game in weeks and weeks, and yet I am about 90% sure I will build an awesome new rig within the next month. Gotta decrease the old tax liability, my friends. :)

Any FBG's want to consider our own server? We can get a 16 player server for about $20/month. Didn't know if anyone would be down for trying a year of that.

I say you put two GTX 780's in SLI. C'mon, you know you want to.
Depending on how the budget looks in a few months, I might consider picking up another card like the one I have and trying CrossFire, I could get a 7950 (same chipset) and pair it with the one I have. Generally though I probably would get better performance just going with a single 7970 (or R9-290X) though and the overall cost would probably be the same.

Trying to re-order Battlefield 4 + Premium membership. I bought the EA origin cards today to add to my balance and pay that way. Big mistake. I've been on with Origin support for more than an hour now. I bought $120 in cards. BF4 + Premium costs $119.98 + tax. The cards won't cover it nor won't let me add CC info to cover the remaining cost.

Guy on support told me to buy BF4 first. Done, but now I have $45.11 left to pay on $49.99 premium. And Origin won't allow you to add that to it. No option at all. God I hate Origin.

The guy is desperately looking for answers. I think I'm just gonna buy another $20 card to cover the remaining cost and then use the $12 or so on Mass Effect 3 the next time it's on sale for $10. Yes, I still haven't played Mass Effect 3. Why? If you guessed Origin, then you'd be correct!

Please bare with me as I rant in real time as I'm on hold with the Origin support guy. I can't imagine being that guy. I used to do tech support. It was one thing doing it via phone. It's another doing it via real-time chat. I've sent him a few screenshots to show him what I've been seeing.

Edit: to the Origin support guy who is probably desperately doing Google searches for the issue. Hello. Welcome to FBG's. It's not your fault that Origin sucks.

So my son also has it preordered, and I'm contemplating taking a day off and getting him out of school to play. The question is, do I risk doing it release day given past complications, or do it a day or two later?

Well, Mumble wasn't that difficult to setup, so if ya'll want, feel free to use the following (Mad Cow, you can put this in the initial post if people start using it regularly).

Label: FBG Battlefield Mumble (whatever you want really)

Address: 192.81.218.183

Port: 64738 (pretty sure that is the default)

Username: [YOUR USER NAME]

It may (will) give you a message the first time complaining about the lack of a valid certificate. Say you trust it and to connect anyways.

Once you are in, right-click on your username and register with the server. That way I can make people admins, etc.

No password for now. If other people start finding it/connecting, etc, we'll worry about it then.
Just bringing this up for me. :bag:

I would never, ever plan my launch day around playing online. Too much potential for disappointment.

Yeah. I'm taking off Thursday and Friday, but that's because it's my birthday. Any consistent playing time on Tuesday or Wednesday would be gravy

So, no interest in an FBG server then? For minimal investment, seems it would be fun to always know where we could game with other FBG's and not worry about open slots.

Not totally opposed to the idea, but I don't really play on 16 player servers. I don't think many people do. Other some of the less popular game modes (squad DM), almost everything is built for 32 or 64 players.

Conquest large is by far my favorite game mode, and that's really only built for 64 players.

I agree with TLEF, I tend to prefer the larger game modes, and don't know that I'd play much on a 16-man server, even as admins. I looked up prices also, and its close to $90/month for a 70 man server (64 + 2 admin + 4 spectators I think).

Don't forget 2 slots for commanders. And yeah, if maybe we had more FBG's that played BF on PC, I'd be on board. But I think we'd be wasting our monies. And FBGs don't waste monies.

I think that's what I meant instead of admin.

Yup. Saw that. Think I'm still leaning towards the 770. $100 extra for better performance and nvidia over ati (which is what I prefer)

Probably gonna pull the trigger on the best price I see in the next week.
I feel pretty good about the price I paid for the 7870 Tahiti chipset. In between the standard 7870s and the 7950, and (after rebate) I'll be at $150.

which 770 you looking at?
looking at the EVGA 4 GB superclocked. Its only like an extra 30 bucks to go from the 2 GB to the 4GB, which seems like good value. This one is on the lower end of the pricing range for that card (a lot of them are like $500 for some reason).

Its a tough $$ hit to swallow, but when you consider how long a high end card like this will last, its not THAT bad.

Probably gonna wait to see if any weekend deals pop up and order sunday night if I don't see something.

Alright, given my 670 is right there with the 7970 in many games, I think I might just get a 2nd 670 and give SLI another try.

Geez, you guys are making me feel inadequate. I've got two 570's in SLI and now feel like I need to upgrade so I don't get laughed at for using ancient technology. :)

I totally bought another 670. Might upgrade my ssd and reinstall instead of gutting my system. My I7-950 is still a beast.

Just finally got a response from the esculation guy on the issue (yes, it took them over a week to get back to me). Origin does not have an option to put my remaining wallet balance toward ($45.11) toward Battlefield 4 Premium membership ($49.99). The balance must be higher than the cost. I've never had the issue with Steam. In fact, I can't think of any retailer in America where you cannot use a gift card and still use a separate payment type to pay off the remaining balance. With the exception of Origin, that is. What a ####### joke.

So basically, I'm going to have to buy another $20 card to get my balance high enough to cover Premium. I guess what I'll do is buy Mass Effect 3 with the remaining balance during a $10 sale. I've always put off buying it because of Origin. But now Origin has my money held hostage and I don't really have an option.

Just imagine the poor morons who buy someone an Origin gift card for Christmas thinking that they can put it toward buying their favorite EA games on Origin. Sorry grandma, but that $20 card doesn't do any good to anyone. He'll still have to pay full price, while EA has that $20 tucked away unable to use, unless he wanted something for under $20 (tax included).

I have a couple of 2 TB drives already, and will use my case which I love. Have a great Corsair 850W PSU. Got the 2nd 670 yesterday.

Build will begin this weekend. Or re-build as it were.

I figured I would put all my games on the velociraptor, other programs get the regular HDD's and Windows and select few games get the SSD.

So what all of this means is I have an Intel i7-950 and an Asus Sabertooth mobo that could be had for a good deal. All in perfect running order.
