Browns QB Brian Hoyer (1 Viewer)

pghrob

Hail to the Chief
Brian Hoyer is looking like a dynasty lotto ticket right now. If the Browns draft Watkins & the Bengals don't match the Hawkins offer, with Gordon, Tate, and Cameron, there are some decent skill players. While a long shot to be a starting caliber fantasy qb, crazier things have happened. If he doesn't pan out, it costed nothing to find out but an off season / preseason roster spot.

I added him from the free agent pool after the Tate signing. If they draft a rookie QB, I don't see one beating him out if he's fully recovered. Some reports are that Schaub may be a target of the Browns. Kyle Shanahan's history with him in Texas could make things tough for Hoyer if Schaub signs. Looks like new front office is pleased with what they are finding in Hoyer. If Schaub signs elsewhere, Hoyer would have the jump on starting job. A lot of ifs right now. But what if....

Of Hoyer didnt beat out Schaub, pretty much no different than Hoyer starting and sucking.

Actually, that would be better if you owned Hoyer, saving you a few dud weeks from your QB spot

Not that it would suprise anyone to know since they cut both QB Brandon Weeden AND QB Jason Cambell but the Browns officially paid Hoyer his roster bonus yesterday.

Players Retained Despite Roster Bonuses

  • QB Brian Hoyer received his $250,000 roster bonus on March 15.

if they sign Schaub, Hoyer's value is done but i don't think that's very likely.

if i could get hoyer for cheap in a dynasty i'd do it.
If??? Lol.
It's not a certainty that you CAN get him for cheap. I have him in my dynasty league, after holding him last season. I can tell you that RIGHT NOW, it would probably cost too much for most teams to get him from me. Basically, my thinking is that if someone wants to pick up his potential for 2014, then they will have to "come get him". My best guess of my value for him RIGHT NOW is a 2014 2nd round pick in a 14 team league. Probably mid-round or better. Understand that I wouldn't personally PAY that for him, but I'm not selling him for cheap just because he was hurt at the end of the season last year.

In a league where he is a free agent, and you can pick him up in the draft, I would think he might go 3rd round right now, but anyone having a rookie/free agent draft right now is....."ahead of the curve". After the draft, his value is likely to go down quite a bit, especially if Cleveland drafts Derek Carr in the late 1st or early 2nd round, as the rumor is they are interested.

Lot of interesting stuff in this thread.
Why is that funny for you? I've read it a couple places, and I think heard it on NFL Network. Obviously, we know that most of these "rumors" are either fiction, or blown out of proportion. I have to assume that's what you're finding funny, but since you failed to add anything to your comment, we have to guess. I also find it odd that you quoted that part of my post to find funny, while not mentioning my admittedly too-high value right now for Hoyer.

As for Carr's draft spot, I could easily see why Cleveland would like him in that pick range. He has a strong arm, which would work well with Gordon on the outside, and would work with Sammy Watkins if they drafted him at #4 (I am 50/50 as to whether he would be there, but that's just me). I've seen Carr's name anywhere from Minnesota at #8 overall (far too high if you ask me) all the way down to the 4th round and maybe the 5th round once or twice. I think 4th or 5th round is too low to mock him, but that's just my opinion, and anything after the first round in a mock draft is simply overkill anyway. I can still see Cleveland being interested in him at pick #35. Maybe even at #26 if Houston doesn't grab a QB at #1.

If Carr did go to Cleveland, then that's a decent hit to Hoyer's value. Carr has outside potential to start as a rookie. Not saying he SHOULD, just that he MIGHT. No clue how good he might actually be in that scenario. Although, I would hope he could do at least better than his brother did in Houston in his early years.

The bottom line for Hoyer is simple - as someone above said, he's a lottery ticket at QB. He probably has value for 2014 as a low-end QB2 or QB3. Stranger things have happened.

I just get a kick out of any time someone mentions a rumor near the NFL draft, or anything related to the NFL draft.

True, but sadly it's what we have to talk about this time of the offseason, other than free agent signings. It's just all mental gymnastics that almost always doesn't mean squat come draft time.

Talking about it using logic or player evaluations makes sense. Referencing a rumor................not so much.

Referencing a rumor in the context of the topic is the same as saying "I think...", especially in this case.

I could have said, "I think they might pick Derek Carr at either #26 or #35, which would....blah blah blah." I don't think it holds any more importance within the analysis by referencing the rumor. The idea I was trying to get across was that there is POTENTIAL for that to happen, and there would be an affect on Hoyer's value. Maybe I should have phrased it as exactly what it was.....my own thinking which was influenced by heresay. Not exactly scientific, but not much here is...

Your own thoughts are 10000x more important than a rumor. A rumor regarding the NFL draft is no more relevent than putting a million words and names in a jar and randomly picking them out and forming a sentence.

And you don't need rumors to know that there is potential for just about anything to happen in the NFL draft.

If a team has a guy in for a visit, or extra workout or something that's cool, makes sense to mention that.

But some rumor from some beat writer of a family meber of the dog who lives at someones house on the weekend......................... :nerd: :nerd: :nerd: :nerd:

Actually, now that you mention it, I think this is where I got that one. :clyde:
