I will read this with some time in the next few days, because it's an interesting topic.
I'm a republican and have voted that way, above all else being fiscally conservative. No one's looking out for my welfare, I work for it. I'm not running to a polling booth to vote to pledge my share of taxes to support those people, not all of course which is ludicrous, but those who don't want to go out and work for it themselves. That's just me, and everyone can pull the lever however they choose, it's what makes America great. But, that's why I vote for the party. I don't, however, tow the party line blindly on all other debate points like some republicans do, because I do have a mind of my own.
If you put a moderate candidate out there who was fiscally conservative and took his or her own stances on every other issue ever debated outside of taxes, I'd probably vote for him or her most definitely over someone pandering across the board to republican or democrat check the box stances on all non-tax/fiscal issues.
