Rather than putting a bunch of threads on various DEs that I found interesting, I thought it would be easier to have a thread devoted to this position and other owners can pose questions specific to DEs.

Here are a few things through week 2:

1. Mike Daniels is the best DLman in Green Bay, and might be a DE2. He is getting lots of snaps and some tackles, something that eluded him in his previous part-time work.

2. Michael Bennett is very underrated.

3. What is going on in Chicago? Houston with 1 tackle in two games, while Willie Young has 8 tackles and 3 sacks in limited snaps (40% week 1, data not out yet on week 2).

I love Daniels as a player. He is still coming off in some nickel looks. Despite that he puts up good stats and is an amazingly good young player.

I've been keeping my eye on Daniels. I'm liking what I've seen thus far, but I'm always reticent to trust 3-4 lineman. Typically, you either really have to be some kind of athletic freak(B. Smith, Watt, et al) or a guy who consistently kills it vs. the run and piles up tackles(Calais, et al) to be a viable weekly start. Hearing that Mike is losing Nickel snaps doesn't help me get over the hump to go pick him up, fwiw, but if he has another week of strong tackle numbers it's going to be tough to continue to ignore him.

Might wanna slow your roll on Young in CHI. Pretty sure at least two of his sacks came against nancy boy Jonathan Martin last week. Martin should have just quit like he said he was going to. He doesn't belong in the NFL. Too soft and he's horrible. He wasn't even putting forth any effort to block Young.

Just something to consider if you are looking at Young. For what it's worth, I've been hearing positive things about Young before the game last week. May still be worth a pickup, but I wouldn't expect his pace to continue.

What about Mario Addison in CAR with Hardy now yanked? Believe he had 2 sacks last week as well. He's been solid in spot duty and now he may get a chance to run with the spot this year.

ch johnson 86% horton 47% ealy 42% addison 39%

I'd have a hard time trusting that

sacks can be a pretty circumstantial stat

 I added Mario in a deep league with injuries but wouldn't want to count on him as a weekly starter. Figured Ealy would be next in line in time but surprised to see Horton play that much.

Is Andre Branch still considered a "deep roster DE" or has he more or less arrived? I'm asking because I'm beginning to get legitimate trade offers for him.

Tyronne Crawford: +4.7

Breakdown: The often-maligned Cowboys defense performed at a good level vs. the Titans. Crawford provided the Cowboys with a pass rush they missed all of last year. With five pressures on 22 pass rushing snaps he was more than the Titans offensive line could cope with.

Signature Play: 3Q 13:24 - Crawford was able to get into Michael Oher’s body and push him back creating enough space inside to get through and make a hit on Locker as he threw the ball.

Mike Daniels, DE: +5.1

Breakdown: The Jets’ left guard Brian Winters looked like a changed man last week after a disastrous rookie campaign. That is, until Winters met Mike Daniels who just handed him the worst grade of his career. Daniels needed only 46 snaps to record five stops, a sack, a hit, and two hurries en route to the best-graded game of his career. He now leads all defensive linemen with 10 run stops on the season. The third-year end, quite simply, could not be single blocked in the run game by the Jets’ guards and was a factor on almost all of his 22 snaps against the run.

Signature Play: At 1:51 in the third quarter, the play after he was flagged for illegal hands to the face, Daniels’ performed his patented swim move on Brian Winters for a quick sack.

Daniels has been on the field a lot more than Datone Jones who was on the field more in passing situations.

I like Willie Young who many thought would be used less when they signed Jared Allen. He should see more snaps soon I would think based on performance.

Time for Lattimore?

In Week 2, Lattimore graded out at +2.4 in 59 snaps. He made three stops in the run game and added some pass rush with a couple QB hurries. Jones finished with a -5.8 in Week 1 with three missed tackles and while Hawk’s play did improve in Week 2, his overall grade through two games stands at -4.5. This is a small sample size, so we take a look at 2013 as well.

Addison got another sack last night. Horton also jumped offsides to give the Steelers a 1st and goal when they were about to kick a field goal.

Addison was in the back field a lot last night. May not be that great in run support, but he has some pass rush chops.

Want to bring up Lamaar Houston again. Was messing around PFF, and surprised to find some stats they have on him so far:

For 4-3 DEs, he is:

10th in snaps

T-7 in QB hurries

T-2 in QB hits

11th in overall PFF rating

9th in pass rush PFF rating

But its obviously translated into next to nothing in the box score, with only a handful of tackles and no sacks. Which is incredibly interesting because this guy has basically crushed it in the tackle department throughout his career.

This has been baffling to me. Spent a fortune on him in dynasty and hoping he can pick it up some.

Was worried that he got lazy after gettin paid but your stats contradict that theory. Thanks for posting this!

Im still needing to check the column heading for YTD points and bye weeks to make sure I am not mixing them up. That's not good.

I traded a mid-round pick for him in a league based on this PFF data as well, figuring he's just been unlucky. We'll see.

Anything to see with Vinny Curry in Philly? That DST is very opportunistic but he's not even atop the depth chart at DE. Sack inflated numbers?

Daniels is interesting. 3-4 DE, though, which is limiting. I'm hurting at my DE spot and looking for any thing to stick.

As a Philly fan, Curry is becoming one of my favorite players because he plays with such an intensity and grew up as an Eagles fan, which is awesome because he plays for his favorite team. That being said, he's buried too deep on the depth chart to be counted on for a lot of tackles. Every year, they wonder if he is going to make the roster, but I don't think they're going to say the same thing next year. He seems like he's utilized as more of a pass rusher than a defender against the pass in space. I think he's sack-dependent for points and sees few snaps now. Hopefully, that will change in the future because I really like the motor he has.

Talk about bad decisions. I felt I had great depth at DE after week one, and wanted to move some guys for upgrades elsewhere as I don't like guessing wrong on DEs.

I had:

Griffen

Hughes

Willie Young

Michael Bennett

Liuget

Cam Heyward

Guess which 3 I kept? One team I traded both Griffen and Hughes to. Guess what team he played against this week?
