I think its one of his best. Possibly the most underrated film ever. Watching it right now. Really don't understand how some people hated this movie.

Eyes Wide Shut is very good

I think a few of Kubrick's other flicks are wayyy overrated, just like this one is underrated

Maybe I dont get brilliance though

Sort of a disturbing movie that makes me look within and doubt my own life. Mainly because I've never been invited to one of these parties.

I could barely sit through it the one and only time I watched it. I don't remember anything about it now. I could not summarize the plot, if there was one, nor list for you the characters. It left no specific impressions other than that I did not know that nudity of attractive people could be made boring.

The ritual with the naked hookers in masks is similar to the rituals described in The DaVinci Code..

Very intriguing movie.. who WERE those people? Why was Cruises' character warned?

What is up with the Christmas lights everyewhere?

Loved it

Vey good movie IMO. People tend to either love or loathe Kubrik, and I admit I'm a fan.

"Swan Song" is debatable; he had enough influence over AI that I really consider that one his swan song - he deserves 50/50 credit with Spielberg for that one, imo.

Both are really good, provocative movies...

I think he more deserves 70/30 credit, credit for the first 70 percent of the movie that was intriguing and then Spielberg gets "credit" for ruining the movie in the last 30 percent.

Spartacus, Dr. Strangelove, 2001, A Clockwork Orange, The Shining, Eyes Wide Shut. Not even complete list, but this guy dominates. Dr. Strangelove alone gets him in the HOF.Edited to add: I can't believe I left Full Metal Jacket off the abridged list...

I am a fan of Kubrick but IMO this is not his best work. for the Kidman and the other naked bodies, but the rest of the film just tried to hard.

If you don't include Paths of Glory as one of his best...you're missing the picture completely.

remember it being pretty boring and a really really long. If not for nicole kidman it was useless to me.

This movie should of been called Red Herring, it threw out a lot of clues that never get answered and left me saying who cares. I doubt it was even in the can when Stanley kicked. Wasn't the worst movie ever, but had to be the worst movie that had an orgy in it ever.

I would rank Strangelove, 2001 and A clockwork Orange all in my top 50 movies...and I really, really did not care for Eyes Wide Shut. I was completely unengaged by the whole thing. Why exactly was I supposed to care about any of these people?

I have no answer. Cruise and Kidman had zero chemistry. Behaved more like a gay man with a beard than a happily married couple (hmmmmm).I think everyone saying it is brillant is kidding, or fishing.

I'm going to have to slap a good posting on this.
I think I have a current total of 8 people on these boards (me included) that dig this movie.
I'm pretty sure Tufnel/moonhead wrote a thesis on it.
it was a collaborative effort. tufnel is obviously the brains of the operation.

The last 30 percent was incredible. The only part that didn't work so well for me was the middle section.

you mean incredibly bad, right?

Terrible movie and Cruise was really overacting it seemed.

BUT having said that, Nicole in front of the mirror was a great great scene!

I thought that he didn't actually finish the film.

I'm too lazy to Google it, but if I do I'll be back.

I thought it was OK, but I haven't seen it in awhile.

 for the orgy, of course.

I'm a fan, but then again, I like nearly all Kubrick films.

The problem was with the casting of Kidman and Cruise, it made the movie too Hollywood and built up a lot of expectations. Most of the people I remember hating it, hated it because they went in expecting a Hollywood movie with Tom Cruise, not a Kubrick film.

It also doesn't help that Kubrick died shortly after editing the first cut. The finished film might have turned out far different.

I'm actually not a bigu Kubrick fan. I recognize Clockwork Orange as a classic but it's a little too odd for my repeated enjoyment IMO. Strangelove is obviously another classic, although I rarely stop and watch it when I notice it's on. Same with 2001 for me. That's sort of a guideline for me on how much I liked a movie.

The Shining is outstanding and Full Metal Jacket is sensational in boot camp and then just good after.

Eyes Wide Shut? Believe it or not, I was completely engaged every second. I think it's a great movie.

I rank Kubrick

1. Dr. Strangelove

2. Full Metal Jacket

3. A Clockwork Orange

4. 2001

5. Paths of Glory

6. Barry Lyndon

7. The Killing

8. Eyes Wide Shut

9. The Shining

10. Lolita

11. Spartacus

For the sake of argument, assuming AI is also a Kubrick film, where would that fall in your list?

11 or 12. However, if Kubrick had done the whole thing I think it had the potential to be 5 or 6.

One of those movies that would be completely disregarded if anyone else had done it, but since it's Kubrick and it's weird, people feel inclined to say it's great.
