Playoffs Before NFL Bye Weeks are Over? (1 Viewer)

I can't seem to wrap my head around the fact that FBG Players Championship is starting the playoffs before the NFL bye weeks are complete. There are some MAJOR players on a bye this week (Lynch, Wilson, Seattle D, Dalton, A.J. Green, Foles, McCoy....just to name a few) that puts owners with these players in a SIGNIFICANT disadvantage.

This is a great online league (my first year), but this is concerning to me after paying the $300 entry fee and committing a significant amount of time to compete. And then to go into the playoffs with everything on the line and not at full strength.

I am surprised I haven't seen another thread regarding this topic. I've played in numerous online leagues and have NEVER seen this before, especially when there is only 2 weeks off playoffs. Why not start playoffs in week 13 and have Championship in week 14?

Just needed to vent my disappointment

The rules were posted before you entered ....

And HOW would YOU have the league playoffs before Weeks 14-16 when the Championship teams compete without having league playoffs in Week 12?

The bye weeks are posted well in advance. Everyone is able to do your research and ultimately you have the choice and option to either take a risk on someone that has a Week 12 bye or not. I took DeSean Jackson because I was able to get him later than his ADP. Im assuming some people were passing on him because they knew about the bye week as well. Regardless, you have the choice.

I'm the #1 seed in my league playoffs after finishing the regular season 10-1.

And now, i have LeSean McCoy, Marshawn Lynch, DeSean Jackson, and the Seattle Defense all going on bye this week. As a result, I am forced to play Fozzy Whittaker (my best choice of 4 different options, believe it or not) just to fill my second required running back slot.

I've had a helluva season, and now it looks like i may be out in the first round of the playoffs because of this stupid rule. While i agree that everyone is in the same boat during the draft process, it doesn't suck any less to have to deal with this problem. Just crossing my fingers and hoping i can make it through somehow...

You did have the advantage during the regular season of not having any of those top guys on a bye.

#1 It was in bold EVERYWHERE.....how you could not know that is beyond me. Your fault so stop complaining.

#2 While everyone else suffered through regular season bye's you were at full strength....now its your turn to suffer. People had this choice to make on draft day. Deal with it.

I can't believe people are @#$#@ about this. I avoided drafting players on these teams for this very reason. So if you were aware and still drafted them, zip it. If you weren't aware, shame on you. A team in my league has a few on buy & the fill ins probably shouldn't even be rostered. He will be going bye bye this week.

To the Penguin-

So you call this rule stupid despite benefiting from it. The reason you were able to get them 2 RBs and go 10-1 is because you got at least one on the "Week 12 bye discount program!" Look at the bright side, you can rest your players for two weeks after you get bounced from your league playoffs. They will be fresh for the Championship round. See ya there!

I was able to draft McCoy based largely on the week 12 bye. No way he falls to me otherwise. I knew about the bye and planned for it. Resulted in 2 seed and berth in championship round, plus because I planned for it I have adequate depth to overcome it in the first round of playoffs.

I disagree, everyone knew or should have known this going into the draft, we purposely avoided players with a week 12 bye for this very readon.... number 1 seed. You drafted those guys fully knowing the byes and playoff weeks, why did u pick up fozzy instead of Rainey or Stacy or DBrown, you made all of those choices The number 3 seed in our league has mccoy and lynch, he is starting ridley and andre brown, seems like he planned for this week

I'm not benefitting by getting bounced in the first round of my league playoffs. I may as well have finished last in league (i don't anticipate winning any money on the Overall Championship).

Just as kind of a similar example, i'm also in a couple of salary-cap games where i had Peyton Manning on my roster from Day One, and i ended up getting screwed when he threw for 7 touchdowns against the Ravens in that opening Thursday Night game (rosters didn't have to be finalized until Sunday morning). So instead of Manning starting out on maybe 35% of teams and me benefitting greatly (at least early on before everybody bought him), he was on 100% of opening rosters and he's done me absolutely no good at all.

Same type of deal there; everyone was in the same boat and knew the rules going in, but people still get penalized. Greatly.

In both cases, there were ways around it. Here @ FBG, i think they could've just had a 13-week regular season, and have your scores from weeks 14-thru-16 determine both League and Overall titles at the same time. Way better option than having some of the best players in the entire contest unavailable for you when you need then the most. If you lose a player to injury, them's the breaks. But this situation could've been avoided. Just my two cents on the matter...

Are u jokin man? You have to win 1 game to make 5 hundo now. Anyone and their mother would have signed up for a playoff spot before season. Not only did u get that, u got automatic entry into the big dance!!!

Playoffs are a crapshoot to boot, anyone can pull off 1 win i dont care how many bye guys u have on your bench. The other team your facing could have 2-3 players get hurt on sunday, who knows.

Now i avoided week 12 guys like the plague , but if u told me by drafting them, i'd have secured a playoff spot, i would have 100% drafted those guys. If i was getting good value on week 12 guys, i was drafting them. Just happened to not get great value out of them. Spiller/Mccoy both 1st rd picks, Lynch was a high 2nd i believe. Green was a 2nd rd pick. No value in taking those guys there when u add in this week 12 bye scenario.

This contest has been going on a few years, I think. And the structure was set prior to the NFL stating week 12 had byes (1st time in a long time). We knew that going in, took Lynch anyways and then avoided week 12 until late. Got 1st place & most points, and benefited from no-Lynch bye, a bit.

That being said, we only have 1 guy on bye this week, but it's hurting.

I wouldn't mind seeing some $ for the 3rd place game, to avoid a $0 return on a great regular season.

It's not ideal, but I don't think it's worth changing the format.

It added another element to the strategy during the draft. In quite a few drafts, those players were bargains. People avoided them because of their late bye weeks, and some teams didn't make the playoffs because they didn't have DeSean or Lynch.

I see no reason to be blabbering about how you got screwed for this season, Rules were in place. You chose your fate. BUT I do see some merit in the quoted statement. I realize that having guys on BYE during the playoffs is not optimal and there are ways around it such as the suggested workaround. So you have that going for you.

It's all in the rules. Can only speak for me but I was happy to see players with week 12 bye fall to me. Because, in large part, of not having studs on bye during reg season I won points race in my league. Plus, with decent planning and a bit of luck I am now playing in week 13 for the reg season league championship.

Cant' tell you how many times I passed on a player with a week 12 bye. You truly are playing for 1st place in your league so loading up on Marshawn Lynch, DeSean Jackson, AJ Green is/was gonna hurt come week 12 and it did for some owners.

You had all season to work the waiver wire as well to get a 2nd set of guys for those specific bye week fill ins. Keenan Allen, Jarret Boykin, Rashad Jennings, Zac Stacy, if you were fortunate enough to find guys in the middle to late rounds or on the waiver wire you were just fine.
