Vegas pegs the Giants as odds on favorites to land Josh Hamilton (3-1).

Eephus, what say you? Is he worth nine figures to SF?

Jake Peavy signed with the White Sox for 2/$29M with a 2015 vesting option. Seems like a lot of money for a guy who until this year hadn't pitched a full season since the Bush administration.

Dodgers resign Brandon League for three years. I hope they overpaid and I suspect they did.

Oh, and Trout didn't win a gold glove

I believe Ludwick's option is already declined and he could be among the top of the backup plans for teams who miss on Hamilton. His option was only 5M and he can get WAY more than that on the open market.

Greinke is going to be after huge money.

ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) — The Los Angeles Angels traded right-hander Ervin Santana to the Kansas City Royals on Wednesday for minor league reliever Brandon Sisk. The Angels exercised Santana's $13 million option for next season before trading the Dominican veteran and cash to the Royals."We're proud to have him, and he certainly fits with what we're doing in 2013," Royals general manager Dayton Moore said.Santana has been a fixture in Los Angeles' rotation since 2005, going 96-80 with a 4.33 ERA while starting at least 23 games in eight consecutive seasons. He has spent his entire career with the Angels, who signed him as a free agent in 2000 and nurtured his development into a solid starter of 96 games over the past three years. But Santana struggled for much of last season, going 9-13 with a 5.16 ERA while giving up a major league-worst 39 homers despite significant improvements over the final two months.
Looks like the Royals are going to increase their payroll next year. Santana isn't an ace but if he's on, he's better than anyone else the Royals have. If he's not on, he's Hochevarian. The Angels look to have saved $1M on the buyout of Santana's 2013 option. Sisk is a 27 year old LHP with no Major League experience.

Marmol for Haren's option is the rumor du jour
Apparently called off. Can anyone explain how this made sense from the Angels' perspective?
I was reading earlier that the Indians and the Angels were close on a Chris Perez for one of those spare OFers deal. Looks like they want a closer and it doesn't look like they want to keep Haren. Since the Rangers are hot after Grienke I would think the Angels for more than just the obvious reason of Grienke's great skill, really want to keep him.

Beats me. I know they need some bullpen help. It's definitely one of their biggest areas of weakness. Maybe they felt Marmol is worth gambling on. Iirc he was pretty good in the second half of last season.
Then again, maybe they saw Marmol's walk rate and ran away screaming.According to Twitter, Marmol was pretty shocked about the reported trade when he was on Dominican radio last night. But, not only did the trade get called off, but the other team thought it was a BETTER idea to just cut the guy going the other way. That can't do much for confidence.

Mets buy out Jason Bay's contract. Now a FA.
Somebody is eating $21M
Hayman reporting it's been deferred, big time. Like $1M/yr. for 20 years or so.
The new Bobby Bonilla.Bonilla's buyout assumed an 8% annual interest rate for the deferred payments. If you do the math for the $19M remaining on Bay's deal (the $21M number included pro-rated bonuses), a 20 year payoff and the same AIR as Bonilla, he's looking at $88.5M

San Diego Padres catcher Yasmani Grandal has been suspended 50 games because of a positive test for testosterone. The commissioner's office announced the drug penalty on Wednesday. The ban will take effect at the start of next season.

The Orioles didn’t hit much in the ALDS against the Yankees, so they’re apparently looking to upgrade their offense in a big way.Baltimore is targeting free agent Josh Hamilton to play left field and give the team a big bat in the middle of the order, according to FoxSports.com. Hamilton, who hit .285 with 43 home runs and 128 RBIs this season with the Rangers, is the top position player available.Hamilton's prowess at the plate is not in doubt, but he has a ton of red flags, including his injury history and past substance abuse problems. At 31, Hamilton also might not get a long-term contract.Baseball Prospectus has reported that Hamilton will ask for a seven-year, $175 million contract. That might be unlikely for the Orioles, who had a payroll less than $85 million this season.

Jays sign Maicer Izturis. 3 years, 10 mil total (per Jon Heyman).

Edit: Jays also get Jeremy Jeffress from Royals for cash considerations.

Good luck with that Josh. :lmao: :lmao:
It sounds comical indeed, but I'll bet you some team feels enough pressure to come pretty close.
He may not get the years but I think the $25M/yr. is pretty close
I can buy that, but I can't see a team going 25 million for more than 4 or 5 years.

Curious that Toronto would shuffle Aviles in and out and then turn right around and sign Izturis. 3/$10M is a lot for a utilityman so I assume Escobar will be dealt. I think Izturis is best defensively at 2B, so that would put Hechavarria at SS. Does he have the glove to play there every day?Jeffress has a great arm but I don't think he'll ever get his command together. He's a lottery ticket at this point.

Everything I have seen about Hechavarria questioned his bat for more than his ability to play SS. I didn't see him play much though.

Hech is incredible defensively but can't hit. The best lineup right now sees Escobar at SS and Izturis at 2B with Hech in AAA. If Hech finds his swing and forces you to call him up, then great. People want to push Escobar out the door but he's a good defensive SS and is a lot better with the bat than Hech will likely ever be. If they want to trade him because of off field/eye black reasons, then fine, but they should get an SP for him because they're downgrading in doing it.I see Izturis as an ok starter at 2B but ideally a great backup 2B/SS/3B.Interesting that Jeffress doesn't get suspended for weed if he's on the 40 man roster (treatment program instead).

Regarding the Aviles shuffling, the under the radar aspect of this move could be Asdrubal getting traded. Aviles would be solid bridge to Lindor and I personally think Asdrubal might be at, or even already slightly declining, from his trade value peak.
