Steamer or tear out completely
Could you be more specific? This is my first time doing a job like this.

I think a steamer is out of the budget right now. If I try to remove the wallpaper scorer and goo it still wont come easy and it takes the sheetrock paper with it. It is onn1/2 inch sheet rock and under that is concrete. I was thinking of just taking it off completely and plastering a new wall but ive never done anything like that

if you are good enough to float a wall you are good enough to tear off the sheet rock paper or demo it

Forget the steamer and just re-drywall the kitchen. Trust me it will be cheaper in the long run.
It isnt my house it is my mother in laws. I was going to put plaster mesh over the walls and float over it to make a smooth surface to paint

You can try diluting fabric softener in water and spaying that on the wallpaper to get it off

If not steamer or new drywall

just paint over the wall paper then
I cant because there are a lot of old poorly done patches and crumbled out sections I want to smooth overI was planning to put the stick mesh over the original wallpaper and putting a coat of plaster over that and the soffets and sand them smooth to paint

I dont know if this ok to do because I have no experience in this. Only painting

So your plan is to frame mesh and plaster over sheet rock instead of tearing out sheet rock and putting new rock up? Is it plaster or sheet rock now?

Measure, cut, screw, tape spackle the screws and seams paint. It's a hell of a lot easier then what your were going to do

She doesnt want me to do that. She wants me to do it the way I mentioned. I would be in over my head trying to shhetrock, especislly the soffet along the ceiling.

Ive a

I just spoke to her. We will get a steamer. Underneath the walpaper is Venetian plaster that I can float a new layer, then I will strip the soffet down to the brown paper and spackle them.

I hope it works

I think you're underestimating the amount of work your chosen path will be. Lol at the MIL deciding how the work should be done. Floating a whole wall and soffit sounds easy. Fixing the crumbles, spackling and sanding probably three times to get it smooth enough to paint is a huge mess and a lot of work.

She is the one buying the atuff at home depot ppl l

Dude. If you tried your original idea of plastering the whole thing and sanding to smooth your arm would fall off from all the sanding. Hanging new drywall is significantly much easier.

You're in over your head. The correct move is to tear out and replace. You'll find out you are getting, and not taking, good advice.

Im going to strip it down to the original plaster and put a new coat of plaster to paint on. Im going to plaster the soffet too.

She doesnt want me to rip out the old plaster. I dont mind a lot of sanding. Im more concerned about having to sand and stain the cabinets

The large wall is paper ocer Venetian plaster with some damage at the bottom

The soffet over the door I stripped down to the paper surface and plan to do that to tge rest of the soffet areound the room

The other picks of the soffet and wall with grill have only had the top surface of the more recent paper torb off. It is going to be scored and stripped with the blue goo

All I have to work with is compound, plaster of paris, taping knives and sanding blocks to prep it to be painted.

Stain the cabinets. While it's drying you'll have time to sand the floated wall.
I will do this. The cabinet doors will ve easy because I can take them off but the cabinet surface will be a pain because I have to stand on a ladder to do it.

I am under no time frame fortunately

I'm not sure I'm considered an expert but I was the construction worker in my fifth grade talent show performance of YMCA, but I would paste over it.
