Which TV would you choose? (1 Viewer)

How well lit is the room? Is glare a concern with the plasma?
Room is well lit, but TV will be directly across from a large bay window with a large over hang on front porch. Direct light is negligible and current TV has zero glare issues.

Which one would you choose? Currently using an 10yr old 32" Vizio LCD HDTV, so this will be an upgrade.

TV will only be about 8' - 9' away so the 50" will be plenty big.

VIZIO 50" Class 1080p 120Hz LED Smart HDTV

or

LG 50" 1080p Plasma HDTV
I'm biased towards plasmas, so I'd almost always go with a comparably-priced plasma vs. an LED TV. I'd check a bunch of reviews first.
The LG is ranked significantly higher by Consumer Reports. LG ranked 13th (overall score of 66) in the 46-52inch category and the Vizio is ranked 31 (overall score of 59).

If you have Costco, Vizio 55 for $699.

ETA: I have had one of these for 6 months and I love it. They double standard warranty automatically, and a 3 year extension is $60. Costco is great on returns too.

Yeah, I guess the only the thing to be concerned with CR is their value rating. IOW, are they comparing the value cross-format, or are they comparing value rating to other plasmas?

Regardless, happy hunting. I have a Panasonic UT 50" plasma, and I'm thrilled with it.

We just upgraded from a 52 to 60 lcd at about the same distance and we love it. Don't assume a few extra inches wouldn't be enjoyed. 60" is so affordable right now.

I had a 60" in my den, sitting about 8 feet away. Decided it was just too big for that distance. Moved down to a 50" and it's in the sweet spot.

Crutchfield is one of the best Audio/Video stores. If I could afford to buy all my stuff from them I would. Here is an article from them about best size TV based on distance.

I have a 50" Panasonic Plasma in my basement and 50" LG LED in our family room. I'd recommend LED if you think the room is going to get too much sunlight. Plasmas look so much better in dark areas with no glare around.

I think I'd lean towards the LG here. Smart TVs aren't all that great and you can always buy Chromecast for $35 and then you basically have a smart TV.
