"Parenthood": New NBC Show (1 Viewer)

 illegal interntet streaming cut out with 10 minutes to go. Guess I'll have to wait til I get home and catch the DCR to finish this live blog. Hope Haddie shows some titteis! This show better be around for another season.

So they got down in the hospital bed? Clunky storyline. The soldier's mom is from Brotherhood.

Overall thought the season was a disappointment. Not much inspiration. Lot of water treading. Romano was good but they didn't really stretch anyone else out much.

Ryan's mother is Annabeth Gish. She's been in a lot of stuff including the end of X-Files and the Bridge

Thought the Haddie stuff was pretty silly. Like the writers finally remembered she existed and just wanted some storyline reason for her returning home.

She's away at college in real life, so it's hard to get her on the show.

It didn't seem like they were reaching for a storyline to get her home. She's a college kid. Many of them come home for the summer after extended absences.

Even better if they come home with a hot lesbian friend.

It was great to have her back, and I loved every scene with her, the girlfriend, Adam, and/or Kristina.

The Bridge,

Wow I was drunk last night, hard delete my last five posts please.
Nothing wrong with drunken live-posting here in the Parenthood thread. It's been needed for a long time. If we are blessed with another season, I hope you'll have a bottle and laptop ready every Thursday night.

Joel wasn't in the final scene. Thought it was set up for him and the wife to get back together ... Then he's not in that scene.

Wouldn't read to much into that. Hank wasn't there either... it was time for family less the drama.. plus they needed to a possible opening for a story line IF they have another season. The second they showed Amber about to do the nasty with solider boy I told my wife "if there is a next season it will involve her being pregnant" viola, next scene with her is buying a pregency test. :)

I'm pretty sure it hasn't been picked up yet. Like every other year, cancellation's a real possibility.

I hope like hell they get one more season to finish it on their own terms.

:goodposting: they did the samething the last couple years. The writers have no idea if there will be a next season or not so they do their best to end story lines while at the same time leaving possibilities open just in case.

If cancellation is possible I'm glad they used the season to resolve the issue as to whether to sell the house or not.

I hope to hell we get at least one more season, great season and great episode IMO. Still do not understand selling of the house but just like in real life things change so this really was a good way to reflect that I guess.

Romano is killing me, loved Men of a Certain Age and it was sadly cancelled now he could be involved in another disappointing cancellation.

Romano is definitely killing it, and it would be a disappointing cancellation.

But it's reached the Friday Night Lights and Chuck point where, given the viewership, it's already a major victory that it got to 5 seasons (NBC really was the king of great shows that nobody watched). Unlike those 2 though, the S5 finale didn't feel like the endpoint that that the writers would've wanted. Hopefully, that means they have some clue that another season has a real chance of happening.

I'm still betting the series ends with a Hank/Sarah wedding.

Thought it was a decent finale. Not sure why they brought back Haddie after all these years, other than to put Adam/Christina higher on a pedestal for being so open-minded and accepting.

Ray Romano was definitely the star of the season, as was Christina last year when she battled cancer.

Year after year they seem to have a Braverman clan get together at the end, not knowing if the show will be picked up.

They did leave the Joel/Julia thing hanging, but I guess can't wrap up everything.

Parenthood (renewed for one final 13-episode season) :)
Glad to hear.. one of my favorite shows in years, and one more season sounds about right...enough time to wrap all the story lines up and not overstay its welcome..
Happy to hear that there iwll be another season, but I thought they did a pretty good job wrapping up most of the story lines for this season's finale just in case it ended up being the series finale. I thought that showed a real respect for the fans of the show.

They done that the last two season as the writers never knew if it would be the last season or not.. Have to give the writers credit for leaving a few story lines open, but not leaving you completely in the dark in case the show got cancelled..

God, I missed the Bravermans. Great premiere.

It's such a shame nobody ever watched this show becase I think it's unlikely that we will ever see a cast this great again on network TV.

Parenthood and FNL's suffered the same fate. Premiered when cable shows were really garnering all the attention and everyone was giving up on network shows. Both shows that would have been huge hits pre-2000.

The premiere was decent. I was thinking Zeke knew something about his health and did not want anyone to know but it doesn't look like it. Thinking having him hide some bad diagnosis would have really added a layer to the season. Missed opportunity.

The Julia/Joel storyline is the only one with teeth right now. With the time lapse would have hoped they would have setup a bit more.

Been an enjoyable run but not sure where they are headed. Would think they have something good in store. I wouldn't be surprised if Zeke's health scare is a misdirect and Kristina's cancer comes back. Krause and Potter along with Max have been the heart of the show. Plus Haddie back as a regular. Could see Kristina passing then Amber names her daughter Kristina. Flash forward last episode Hank and Sarah wedding episode. My prediction.

Did Krause get a rug? Or as I call it a little "help" up front.

I'd say the Amber and Sarah/Romano storylines have plenty of teeth too.

If this season is going to showcase Amber, then it should be very entertaining. For as much as Sarah has been a wasted/frustrating character since the beginning, I can see some interesting things happening with Romano and the kid moving back in.

Not much with Adam/Kristina really intrigues me. Adam, in particular, doesn't seem like he'll have much to do. Seeing what Nathan Fisher is up to is probably the main reason I ever started watching the show in the first place.

This thread is slowly dying, just like the show.

Finished the waiting room episode. The Julia & fb arc is a little more interesting knowing that they have a past and he isn't just a random coworker bang. Hopefully Joel moves on quickly, plenty of young hot tail in the bay area for a guy like him. Adam's subtle mental game with Crosby, getting him to go to Abq for the singer was smooth. Drew looks like such a #### with that hair but his talk with Amber in WY was one of the better/manly moments in his Parenthood career. Of course it got a little misty as Zeke was about to get wheeled off to the OR, can't imagine being in that spot one day.

One of the things I've enjoyed about this show over the years is that it realistically addresses many of the major life moments we all will face. As the hustle and bustle of the grind goes on, this show many times has caused me to pause and think of the people who are important to me and appreciate the times had and to come.

I think the show is doing fine. I think the cast is probably just too big though. It seems like they lose a lot of momentum bouncing around to much. In the next episode, for instance, Amber/Drew/Haddie aren't even in it.

I still don't believe Julia and Joel will actually end up getting divorced. I can't remember, did he ever bang hot bosslady, Penny from Lost last last year?

Every week when they state "The Final season" my wife yells "What do you mean the final season!!! "

Really enjoyed every season.. Only question is..

Who gets killed before the end.. The way this show has gone not everything is rose's, it's "real life" and I just get the feeling someone is going to take a final  before all is said and done..

I have seen rumors of such a thing on the internet. I can't even bring myself to speculate.

When Zeke got sick, II wondered if they might do a cycle of life thing with him dying around the time Amber's baby is born.

Yep, felt that Zeke was done for.. Then when Crosby wiped out on his cycle thought  Really, Crosby..

Of course that did leave us with that line when he was talking to his wife about his ribs "If they were broken there would be bones sticking out" :lmao:

Having a drunk holiday binge. This thread is as slow as my desire to keep up with the show. I got bored with the sappiness for a month or two, but watching these back to back I am appreciating PH. All the Braverman storylines are setting up for a solid finish.

Looking more and more like this is where they are going.. :(

2 episodes left of this show...

Bad feelings regarding Zeke...Bonnie B has been spectacular this season IMO.

everything else predictable unless there are any twists to be had...

Sara getting married to Raymond.

Julia and Joel living happy ever after.

the whole school plot line an afterthought.

Luncheonette will survive.

Amber will have her child and Zeke will get to see him.

They rarely cover all story lines in one episode. I actually thoght they did a lot of tying upof loose ends with two shows left. It is looking iffier, but I will stick with my bet that Zeke dies in time for the baby to be his namesake.

Well, I guess I was half right. And it looks like they threw us a curve ball about some story lines being wrapped up last week. Luncheonette off again and Julia/Joel in question.

You and me both...

Joel and Julia in the last bedroom scene looking happy though...

Previews showed Zeke at the wedding..

luncheonette done for.

Would've liked more dialogue between Zeke and family regarding surgery, rather that more fighting between Crosby and Adam.

Is next week still an hour ?

Last one tonight. What is the over/under on Lauren Graham crying? 3 times?

She must be exhausted after filming.

Decent finale, seemed truncated, like the ep would have benefited from at least a few additional minutes of length, if not another hour. The flash forwards could have been fleshed out a bit more, IMO. Certainly does not rank with MASH or Six Feet Under in the pantheon of finales.

I will miss the hell out of this show, though.

I think they did a great job in how Zeke passes. Most likely the way he would have wanted.

I watched the montage a few times just to see everything they put into it.

Do agree that everything seemed rushed to finish, could've used more time. But you did see the closure of all the story lines (I think). Very well written and played out.

One of my favorite shows ever. Under-watched and Under-appreciated.

Good Night to the Braverman Family !

That may be how many times I cried during it. I thought they did a good job wrapping it up. The Victor's sister thing was a little odd, but I guess they wanted to show that Julia and Joel were committed to a fresh start.

Nice little reflection video by the cast:

ETA- ANd here is the last few minutes of the show if anyone else wants to rewatch the forward look montage.

Haven't watched for the last season and a half, but tuned in to see the finale. I think they did a good job wrapping things up, taking a little from each potential endings of a "happily ever after" tone a more overtly sad and depressing one. A little bit of both.

I'm sure I beat Lauren Graham ... Cried more than three times.

Can't believe its over. Agree that a two-hour finale would have been nice. Or six hours.

Really enjoyed that ending.

Hated the killed off Zeke but guess it had to be done.

Wished it were longer.

Damn...gonna miss this show...weird how much I enjoyed it.

Loved the Joel/Julia storyline.

She is victor's sister. She is already our's. Pitch perfect. Then they had another kid. Was great.

Peter Krause really is terrific. So many scenes throughout the series where he is just watching the action. Says nothing but communicates so much. Fantastic.

I've experienced it with my father and my sisters. But the show does justice to the father/daughter relationship. Enjoyed that.
