Leodis McKelvin was placed on injured reserve this week, but it’s no lock that Ron Brooks will be back playing every down. He rotated with Aaron Williams and Justin Rogers last week – though both Williams and Rogers are on the injury report this week – and could do so again. George Wilson and Da’Norris Searcy continue to rotate at strong safety.

Koa Misi is out again this week. Jason Trusnik will replace him, but is not a fantasy option against the Bills’ spread option.

Nick Roach will continue to play every down for Brian Urlacher this week. Tim Jennings is expected back. Henry Melton was limited in practice all week but is listed doubtful and unlikely to play. Stephen Paea played almost every down last week in Melton’s place last week, with Amobi Okoye rotating in on some passing downs.

Ike Taylor is still out, but the Steelers should get Cortez Allen back today, which would leave Josh Victorian and Curtis Brown fighting for slot corner snaps. Troy Polamalu played every down for the first time since returning from his calf injury last week, but isn’t yet himself in run support.

Wes Woodyard played every down last week and should again today. DJ Williams and Danny Trevathan will continue to rotate in subpackages.

Kavell Conner is out again with a hamstring injury, giving Pat Angerer full time duty in the base defense. He could again see 40+ snaps against Kansas City – assuming the game stays close – as the Chiefs don’t force a large amount of subpackage snaps. That could make Angerer a solid LB4 today, but there’s not enough upside to trust him as a LB3 today.

Brian Robison struggled to practice through a shoulder injury this week. He’s listed questionable but is more doubtful than probable. Antoine Winfield is not on the injury report this week and could return to his every-down role against a nice Houston matchup. Jasper Brinkley and Erin Henderson continue to rotate in subpackages, but the Vikings are likely to play mostly base defense today.

Chandler Jones was still rotating heavily last week, but Justin Francis was the rotational body, not Trevor Scott. Dont’a Hightower again played nearly every down against the 49ers. Expect him to do the same against Jacksonville.

Dwight Lowery was placed on injured reserve, putting Chris Prosinski back in the lineup at safety for Jacksonville. The Jaguars activated Daryl Smith. Mike Mularkey said he’d play a “significant role” but his availability will depend on how he responds early. There’s upside with Smith today, but it’s risky.

Patrick Robinson is questionable with a groin injury. I don’t see anything specific on him one way or the other; call him a GTD.

Ernie Sims is expected to be active today after last week’s concussion. Alex Albright would start and play every down if Sims is inactive, but has no upside if Sims plays.

Both Justin Tuck and Kenny Phillips are listed questionable. Tuck sounded very unlikely to play most of the week, but made the trip to Baltimore. I’d avoid him even if he’s active. Phillips said he’d play earlier in the week, but expect Stevie Brown to continue to play every down.

Ray Lewis won’t be activated for the regular season and Jameel McClain is on injured reserve. Dannell Ellerbe remains questionable and was limited in practice all week. Josh Bynes played well enough last week to expect him to play every down if Ellerbe returns, but Brendon Ayanbedejo could be in the mix for subpackage snaps. If Ellerbe is out, consider Bynes a LB2. If Ellerbe plays, I think Bynes is worthy of a start but it’s a more risky play. Bernard Pollard looks to be out again this week. Jimmy Smith could see more rotational snaps today, but early week comments suggest Corey Graham will continue to see a full time role.

Tyvon Branch is questionable and not 100% but he played last week and should again today.

Donald Butler returns this week from his groin injury and with Takeo Spikes (hamstring-probable) and Demorrio Williams (ankle-questionable) fighting injury, Butler is a reasonable bet to play every down immediately. Call him an upside LB3. The Chargers have finally made the move to sit Corey Lynch for rookie Brandon Taylor. Taylor is a two-way safety prospect with some upside, but probably too risky to use in fantasy lineups yet.

Cortland Finnegan is questionable with a thigh injury and didn’t practice this week. The team doesn’t let players who don’t practice talk to the media and there are no local reports suggesting he’s anything other than a GTD. Trumaine Johnson would start if Finnegan is inactive.

Colin McCarthy is hoping to play today, but is considered a GTD. Tim Shaw will again replace him in the base defense if he’s unable to play, but the Titans are likely to be in a subpackage against the Packers almost exclusively. Neither McCarthy or Shaw is a safe LB3 today. If McCarthy is out, Will Witherspoon is the desperation LB3+ option.

Charles Woodson is still not cleared to play and may not be until the playoffs.

Kurt Coleman should be back for the Eagles today, but the Eagles will keep Colt Anderson in the lineup over Nate Allen.

Justin Smith will likely do everything he can to convince the staff to allow him to play tonight, but consider him doubtful to be active and a rotational player at best if he is active. EDIT > Adam Schefter reporting that Smith is OUT tonight.

Richard Sherman will play this week. Walter Thurmond and Marcus Trufant are practicing but questionable. Jeremy Lane started last week, but may move back into a rotational role if either Thurmond or Trufant play.

@AdamSchefter: SF DE Justin Smith will not play tonight vs. Seattle due to elbow injury, 49ers hoping he will be recovered enough to return for postseason.

Also, a huge Thank You to Jene for this thread on a weekly basis!

Colin McCarthy, Brandon Spikes, Brian Robison and Demorrio Williams are inactive.

Cortland Finnegan, Ernie Sims, Tyvon Branch active.

Daryl Smith and Brooks Reed back and starting.

Dmitri Patterson starting over Nolan Carroll. May be some CB value here.
