2010 Shark Pool Mock Draft – v. 1

Last year we did the first Shark Pool mock draft right after the Super Bowl so I thought it would be time for the first 2010 version.

Please let me know what team(s) you want to GM. Same rules as last year’s first one – no trades and you have to provide a short (or long if you prefer) write-up for your pick. You can feel free to co-manage the team, select players based on what you want to see done or based on how you think the team will actually operate. Please also PM the person after you once you have made your pick.

We will start this week after the GM positions are filled. When you make your pick, please put the player, position and school in bold and use font size 5 or bigger to make it easier to pick out the pick selection posts through all of the other posts.

I will take the Giants but am open to input from other NYG fans on who to select.

For the sake of the draft Ill take the Raiders but since its my first time involved hopefully I can get some good input from some Raiders fans when the time comes.

I'm motivated to come out of retirement to handle the Ravens for v.1 of the annual Shark Pool Mock Draft here.

With the #1 overall pick in the 2010 NFL Draft, the St. Louis Rams select...

1.01 Ndamukong Suh, DT, Nebraska

Not gonna get cute here. I feel that the Rams can't afford a miss here, and Suh looks like the surest thing in the draft. The Rams' defensive line had some adequate performances over the course of the season, but 'adequate' simply doesn't cut it. They need a disruptive, dominant presence in the line, and "House of Spears" Suh has shown over and over that he can be that guy. Just an incredible total package. Should they stay healthy, Suh, Carriker and Long would make for a very promising young D-line.

I considered Bradford here too, but I'd rather not take him before we find out how his shoulder's doing, and the last thing the Rams need right now is another QB who can't stay healthy. For the sake of this mock draft, I'm working on the premise that they'll address the QB position in free agency.

I just wanted to add how happy I am that I've got to wait for the rest of the 31 of you to pick before I go :goodposting:

I understand it was a no brainer pick but.....

2010 - #1 pick overall = DL

2008 - #2 pick overall = DL

2007 - #13 pick overall = DL

What percentage of the Rams total team salary will be on the DL? 25%? :kicksrock:

As much crap as the Lions have taken about drafting WR's in the 1st round, the Rams deserve a little of that.

With the #2 overall pick in the 2010 NFL Draft, the Detroit Lions select...

1.02 Russell Okung, OT, Oklahoma State

My absolute gut instinct here this far out is Russell Okung. First I'll say this, McCoy is a hell of a prospect and fit's Detroit's needs very well IMO. He's the pick that, as a fan, I'd love at this spot with Suh off the board.

Having said that, they need an investment here to protect Matt Stafford. Taking Stafford #1 overall last year, as well as passing on Oher later on in the first round, leads me to believe that there's a better chance than we think that they will heavily consider Okung here.

Also...PM sent to Lash.
