Let's say you have four random teams, one from each sport... You take the toughest guy on each team and they fight the toughest guy from the other sport. Which sport would have the last man standing?

Baseball loses. Hockey has tough players and fighters but I don't think they have extreme upper body strength and the fight wouldn't be on skates. I think it comes down to basketball/football. Basketball has reach and I don't see anyone taking Dwight or Shaq but football has some insane guys.

I'd actually like to put together a bracket for toughest athlete... I'd nominate:

Zach Randolph, Justin Smith, JJ Watt, Cousins, James Harrison, Suh to start.

Shaq would probably swing and miss so I don't think he would take anyone.

Of those 4, football. But as far as team sports go, I'd have to say pro rugby players are toughest.

Not a fan at all, but hockey is the clear answer. Those guys destroy each other with wooden weapons at insane speeds.

There are a few outliers but in general Hockey or Football guy would absolutely murder Baseball or Basketball guy.

What NHL player is going to knock out Dwight Howard? The best fighters in hockey are the tallest ones with the longest reaches. So while Chara is one of if no the best fighters, do you really think he beats Howard?

Ray Lewis is 6'1. JJ Watt is 6'5 with a 6.875' wing span compared to Dwight at 6'10 with a 7.3' wing span. Even if Dwight Howard is a #####, half the guys in the NFL would struggle to hit him in the face and he could just keep them at a distance.

Football, any day, any time. Hockey players play through incredible stuff, but football has the best physical specimens, IMO. I would never, ever cross an NFL guy.

Almost all fights end up on the ground

NBA players can't fight and don't get hit for a living. Hockey goon or football player would eliminate that reach advantage really quick.

JJ Watt runs through Dwight. Then kills him.

Basketball players are soft.

Baseball players act tough, but they are really soft.

Football players are tough.

Hockey players are tough and they don't give a ####.

Is this a boxing match or mma?

If mma,

The baseball guys will drop out due to being on the DL with a hang nail

The NBA guys are all but dead but too dumb to know just how screwed they are, so they will at least fight

The hockey guys won't know when to quit and might be tough on the ground

The NFL guys have the size, strength and speed needed to win in MMA as many football players have a background in wrestling which is a core foundation of mma.

Basketball players aren't soft. They just have to act that way on the court because Stern didn't want to scare off white fans.

Tough call between hockey and football. Could have been a 2 sport poll. Voted hockey for the crazy factor, but football has had a few real life killers.

:lmao:

Have you ever actually seen a fight?

He has to be fishing.

As a man that once got in

Way too many fights I can tell you that the "best" fighters are those that can take a punch, not give one.

Hockey guys are tiny compared to NFL players. NBA players are taller but too light. LOL at baseball.

Football players easily. Guys are freaks of nature in the ways that matter most in hand to hand combat.

I suspect the best offensive lineman on each NFL team could beat the snot out of almost all comers. These guys take abuse from 300+ pound guys for a living and dish it right back; you don't get good at that without some kind of nasty streak within. They would toss NHLers around like rag dolls. Baseball players would get hospitalized. Maybe there are some NBA players that could give them a run for their money, but I doubt many.

It doesn't matter how much size advantage you have if you can't fight. I've never seen an NBA player other than Barkley who can actually throw down at all, and he took Shaq onto the floor in about a tenth of a second.

Football.

What football players have you seen that can really throw down?

People are ripping the on court/field fighting in basketball and baseball, but I don't recall seeing too many good fights in football. Seems any punch thrown is usually a shrimpy little WR/CB battle where tough guys take a few swings while wearing a helmet.

With football taking 45% of the vote here, you'd think you'd see football player fights with 2 tough guys taking off their helmet and going to fisticuffs with some regularity. With all those tough guys, you know. I'm not sure if I've ever seen it though. I know they'd get flagged immediately, but hey, if you're a tough guy, what do you care.

Hockey and it is not even close. I've seen football players carted off for arm injuries and I've also seen hockey players skate off with a severed juggler veins, bleeding like a stuck pig.

Basketball shouldn't even be an option, those guys are the biggest p***ies I've ever seen.

Punching isn't the only way to fight. Every single NFL player is capable of throwing a 275 lb. man to the ground violently. Including kickers.

A number of ex-NFL players have gone on to be MMA fighters and won multiple fights. Matt Mitrione beat internet sensation Kimbo Slice. I'm not aware of NBA players who have done the same.

The question seemed more like who would win a fight (last man standing). Hockey players are toughest, but not he biggest/strongest.

NBA players fight like little girls....they shouldnt even be in this pole ...same goes for baseball ...id rather see Rugby or boxing/mma as options

And I've seen football players carried to the pocket with a broken leg to take a snap and play QB. Or taking hits to the chest wearing kevlar for a fractured sternum. Or playing safety with casts on both hands. Or finishing a game and taking off a glove before realizing part of his finger was amputated inside the glove during the game.

Or Anquan Boldin holding on for a touchdown despite a hit that required plates in his skull and surgery to keep his CSF from leaking out.

Ice skating in a sweater for 45 seconds before you get too tired and have to go sit down for a while is pretty much the opposite of tough.

Shaq wouldn't fight Jose Canseco. Basketball is out. I've seen Canseco fight so baseball is out. I don't watch hockey anymore so they are out. That leaves football.

Unless they are fighting on skates, I can't see the toughest hockey player beating the toughest football player.

True, though it might be that the NBA doesn't do as good a job as the NFL at leaving players broke, beat up, and desperate enough to try to their hand at MMA.

I'd probably vote football too, but basketball players aren't the ####### they are being made out to be in here.

Certainly though, the influx of all these euros from soccer cultures hasn't helped.

Yes, NFL players are so beat up that they go kick the #### out of professional fighters in professional fights. I see what you mean.

4 votes for baseball players :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

It would be very interesting to see how football and hockey players would do against each other in fights and I think it would be a lot closer than many think simply because some of the goons in hockey are some pretty big boys who can throw down and even some of the smaller guys have skills.Of course this is done on skates but I'm sure it translates well on solid ground.

Slight edge to football because of the size advantage but it would not shock me to see some of the NHL guys hand the NFL players a beating.

This is the right perspective.

Fighting is a weird way to define of "tough" anyway, isn't it? It's a very specific skill set. And obviously the hockey players are gonna be the best fighters, because fighting is part of the sport, they do it all the time. Teams have guys who are on the team in part for that exact purpose. It's like asking which sport's players are the most athletic and then measuring it by who can perform the best dunks.
