Not going to lie, Smashing Pumpkins discography between 93 and 98 (3 regular albums, 1 double-album) is on-par with any non-Beatles 5 year run.
You see, in your middle-years a phenomenon called "Rock N Roll" came to have significant influence in the music and culture of not just the USA, but the entire industrialized world. Gone were the big band and ragtime hits of your youth, replaced by smaller bands that featured drums, bass and guitar. Get this: the guitars were electrified! Some 40 years later, a band called "Smashing Pumpkins" began releasing "CDs".
I am suggesting that those same CDs represent a very high quality of work.
