Storm Johnson dynasty buy? (1 Viewer)

I couldn't find a thread on him and know he is third in the pecking order. All reports say he is good at everything but not great. Anything to see or stash away?

Is he third in the pecking order? My understanding was Gerhart, Todman, Robinson, Johnson...

ETA - Henry Josey on the practice squad throws another body in the mix. Explosive athlete at 5'8" 195 lbs. He's probably not a between the tackles banger but he's clearly talented and could push for touches eventually.

3rd best RB in this draft (behind Hyde and Sankey for those wondering). Really like Storm and I grabbed him everywhere I could. Gerhart is no slouch, so the window may end up being 2 years out but I'm anxious to see this guy in action.

Is this kid gonna get a shot soon? He couldn't look any worse than what they have running the ball right now.

Storm was pedestrian, at best, in the preseason. He was frankly pretty fortunate that they didn't have much competition for the 4th RB spot, or he might not have made the team.

Denard outplayed him, and was a higher draft choice merely a year ago. Recent news reports suggest more playing time.

You are looking at the wrong backup.

Picked Johnson up in a couple places, there is definitely an opportunity that can be had as a Jags RB. I'm wondering if Henry Josey (practice squad) might come into play later in the season. DIdn't he have a pretty solid pre-season with the eagles?

Can he protect the QB? Or Is Any other "playing" RB superior at pass protection?

I do believe some Guru's do like Storm, but Im sure he needs to progress.

I like Storm a bit. I actually had hoped to draft Bortles, and then add Storm, for a sorta cover my bases type move (Team could be wrong on one or the other, but not both LOL)

There is probably no way I could add the guy, but Id still enjoy knowing whats the consensus..

p.s. This might be something to watch/wait for Bortles to turn the corner so to speak. I mean if the Coachs can trust the QB, and spend some time focusing on their young RB, Good things could happen..

(fwiw Im already somewhat impressed w/ Bortles/ However I would be concerned w/ getting him hurt too) just sayin

He's a slow, stiff fumbler. All you need to know.
Can ya quantify that w/ something for reference? For example who would ya say is hands down the best RB for the team?
Well, if you couldn't tell, I don't think he has NFL starting RB talent. Talent-wise, he is the 4th best RB on the roster, maybe even 5th. And that's on a roster that LACKS talent at RB compared to other teams. If he gets a chance to start, it's beacuse Gerhart, Robinson, and Todman are all injured.

Plus he fumbles. A LOT. He's a career special teams player IMO.

fwiw I didn't really doubt ya, I just found it hard to believe. I mean that I did not like Gerhard from the get-go.

Thank-you for your response!

I plan on claiming Storm this week. Reports were high enough on him during the draft and he appears to have a wide open opportunity that he just may seize. I do own Bortles, Lee, and Allen Robinson too nd that is a few too many Jags. But I think this offense could really be league average next year and potentially very potent in two years. Picked up Charles Sms to stash last week too. Btween Sims and Johnson, I like the upside stashes for my last rb spots.

Just got done watching his 4 carries vs. PIT and holy ####, I'm impressed. I actually think it's possible for there to be redraft value for him this year. On his first run in Q2, the OL actually did a nice job opening up the entire right side for him but he also made a nice cut in the open field to dodge a defender to pick up some extra yards. Sadly, that 9 yard run got called back. On his 20-yard run, he showed off some long speed and I'm certain Toby would have only been able to rip off maybe 10 on that play. His most impressive play was actually his 6-yard run, where he should have been tackled for a loss but made an outstanding cut behind the LOS and moved up field to gain 6. This guy is the real deal and seems to be the perfect mix of Toby and Robinson, as far as this offensive is concerned. If you miss out on one of the no-brainers this week, be happy if you can grab Storm.

TL:DR Grab him now.

Don't sell him, short - he's a tremendous slouch. :P

Yeah he did something here that Gerhart can't -- make something outta nothing & quickly change direction.

He's worth a bench stash in redraft if you have room. Not sure that they wind up moving away from 4 RBBC but worth a week or two look in case they do. He definitely looked the most impressive vs. the Steelers.

Storm is in a great spot and will have redraft value this season. I posted in the RB breakout thread that he has a chance to be this year's Zac Stacy.

Reading between the lines of the coachspeak it just sounds like they're dying to get him on the field more as soon as they develop trust in him. (likely referring to ball security and pass protection) Gerhart is the starter in name only at this point if you look at the snap counts, and the other 2 guys have proven to be no more than CoP backs.

All the Jags RBs appear to be suffering from foot issues this week (Johnson included) so maybe that's a good enough excuse to get him more touches in week 6. I'm expecting a mini-breakout so grab him while he's cheap.

Yeah, I don't want to get too far ahead of myself here, as it's still JAC and Robinson, Gerhart and Todman may very well remain in the mix but he's the only RB I'd be willing to stash from the team. He seems like the most complete back from an athletic and skill set standpoint, although I'm not quite sure about his pass pro. I remember reading that it was a weakness coming into the draft.

Ya got me. I prefer to look at the fact I'm a Storm believer. I don't think anyone thought Gerhart would be this bad, so the opportunity presented itself sooner than my "2 years"

But really buy while you still can :moneybag:

trying to decide between Reggie bush, Jerick Mckinon or this guy STORM to play for my rb2. I think he gets over 10 touches against putrid titan d

Gus Bradley when asked whether the RB position is an open competition right now...

"Yeah I would say. How can you argue the fact that Storm and the little plays that he had that he showed up and did some good things? It’s not surprising to me, I mentioned two weeks ago he had a good practice, last week he had a good week and it’s that trust and he’s building trust. For him to go in there and perform and really capture his opportunity was pretty cool to see. Then he came out, he hurt his ankle so I think with Storm it’s that process where he’s continuing to build trust with his teammates. But the runs he had were very impressive."

C'mon Gus...hand the kid the keys to the car this week. Obviously not on passing downs but give him 15 carries and see what he can do.

I'm on board. I watch the condensed version of every game every week while I work out. Football season really helps my workout routines fly by since I enjoy scouting the games so much. Anyway I will see 4-5 games live so I don't rewatch those, but I replay all the others and I try to watch the potential WW pickup games on Monday and Tuesday before getting in bids and I have to agree with SameSong&Dance. It's night and day watching Storm out there vs the other JAX backs. He is a natural and while I didnt see him catch any passes I know he is rated high for that so he has a chance to be a 3 down guy. He has a legit chance to take the every down back role if these types of runs continue. Those were the best 4 runs of the entire year for JAX. There is no way the coaching staff did not see it. Initially I was a little worried as to why the coaches didn't keep him in there after those runs. They must be totally inept , but then I heard he tweaked his ankle so that was the reason. This guy should get more carries next game. He has great feel and vision with enough physical ability to take advantage of it.

yea but jack being inept isn't anything new. Hopefully they give the kid 15-20 touches and see what he can do. Im so tempted to roll him out there over Reggie bush in my ppr money league.

Seems like the best opportunity right now. 0-5 team, coaches are willing to try anything at this point I'm on board!

It's worth mentioning Storm Johnson was originally a Miami Hurricane recruit (the U RB history) .. then transferred to UCF probably shadowing Duke Johnson among others ... was Blake Bortles RB for 1.5 yrs (split carries 2012, lead dog 2013) ... where he did catch 30 balls for 260 yds 3 TD's .. there's gotta be comfort in having a backfield as rookies in the NFL with 2 yrs experience together

I'm interested, but not sure how interested. What kind of rookie pick would you think would be fair to offer/what would it take for you to give him up?

It seems like if this guy is going to be any good at all then now is the perfect time to buy. Then again, after this week, this forum could never speak his name ever again.

I have to admit that I trust Matt Waldman's opinion in his RSP quite a bit and he was not very high on him. Obviously he's not perfect with his scouting, but I trust his opinion more than my own.

I picked up Storm for 0 bidding bucks this week. Do I think he is going to be a star? No. I really don't because I don't think the problem is Gerhart. I think the problem is the offensive line. That being said, he may get an opportunity and you never know. So, since the cost is so minimal you might as well pick him up as you churn the waiver wire.

Picked him up in may in our rookie draft but wonder how long anyone can last with that line. You may need 3 backups.

I completely disagree. I am very high on him (drafted him as high as the #12 pick this year), and as of right now I think he could be had for an early 2nd? I wouldn't take it because he's more than that to me but that's where the market probably is. There are probably a lot of his owners that would gladly cash him in for a 2nd round pick when they either drafted him in the 3rd, later, or was a WW pickup. I for one am holding and hoping, trusting myself that I saw something in the way he played. That's all we can do is trust our own opinions on guys from our research (weather that's tape, or compiling other opinions to form our own). I'll live/die by my own opinion.

Expectations need to be tempered a little though. I didn't realize the o-line was in this bad of shape during the pre-season, so I see him sharing carries 3 ways with Robinson/Gerhart similar to how CLE is going about it with Storm playing the Crowell role. There will be a lot of people who just want nothing to do with this backfield for that + the o-line issues. But this guy is a natural at the position and worth owning.

Gus said Storm Johnson got more reps in practice today. Looks good running the ball but has to improve in protection. #Jaguars
So yeah, his pass pro. is in question. This will likely be his biggest hurdle to overcome. BTW, I'm reading that Gerhart put in a full practice today. Kind of suspicious if he has a sprained foot. I'll update this when I know more.
True, when you have the franchise QB in Bortles back there, Storm won't be fully trusted unless he's good enough at pass pro. No reason he can't impove there, of course.

this may have more to do with this year than future years but... the situation reminds me a bit of the 2013 rams.

through 4 games, rams had 62 carries for 160 yards. and nobody really wanted much to do with their RBs. stacy only had one carry up to that point.

through 4 games, jags have 80 carries for 242 yards. and everybody's kinda low on their guys for rest of year FF points.

we all know what happened last year with stacy and the rams... and the funny thing is it really took people a couple weeks to realize stacy was the guy to own there. he could still be had for pretty cheap even after his breakout game in week 5. consensus was he wasn't explosive or fast enough and wasn't much of an answer. granted he hasn't looked great this year but he definitely helped some dynasty teams last year who went out and grabbed him.

who knows how it will turn out, but i'm willing to gamble on backup RBs on crappy offensive teams since they seem to be pretty easy to acquire.

i'm buying.
