Kyle Juszczyk, FB Ravens - anything to see here? (1 Viewer)

[(KFFL)Baltimore Ravens rookie TE Crockett Gillmore will receive the start at tight end in Week 8 against the Cincinnati Bengals, and the Ravens appear to have plenty of confidence in him. "He gets better every day as a receiver," head coach John Harbaugh said. "He's not the fastest guy in the world --- not to be confused with a speed merchant -- but he has good hands. He has very good body control. The big tight ends are really valuable in this league because they have catch radius and they can get away from a defender. It's hard to cover them one-on-one. That'd be a big asset for us if he could keep growing that way." However, FB Kyle Juszczyk could be the one that replaces TE Owen Daniels (knee) in the passing game. Juszczyk is more polished as a receiver than Gillmore and can play down the seam. Juszczyk led the team with 10 catches for 90 yards in the preseason. The Bengals have allowed opposing tight ends to average 121 receiving yards and four touchdowns in the last three weeks.]

The Ravens TE situation is a valuable one. Back in week 3, when Dennis Pitta got hurt and eventually to IR, a little known fullback with an impossible name to spell came in and got 3/54/1 on 4 targets. Since then, Pitta's replacement, Owen Daniels has turned in some fantasy worthy starts. And Joe Flacco has been on fire this year.

Juszczyk is listed as a RB in MFL, but I'd argue he has a lot of value there, depending on how Daniels knee recovers.

There was some talk of him last month here and I picked him up and he did nothing. So not much to see.

James Casey (when he was in Hou) type numbers is what I would expect
Actually I'm glad to see someone mention Juszczyk so maybe let's discuss....

Casey actually had the occasional good game. I remember one game vs the Saints in the Dome where he absolutely had a huge day. He was just in the gameplan that day but he came out the backfield and was terrific catching passes all over the place. He went 5/126/1, plus 1 rush 1/11/0.

Now why FBs don't get used like this more, I have no idea. I've said it before, the FB needs to be reimagined and it is the last unexploited skill position in modern football. But anyway, Casey could have value on occasion when the TEs were out and in this situation Bal is down to its 3rd TE. I don't know, maybe Gilmore will be great, but Juszczyk was a coaching favorite in PS (let the team in PS receiving), has a receiving TD this year in RS, and was very good in preseason (I saw him play the Saints in the Dome as well).

Just talking football here, as we all know betting on the FB in FF is always a risky proposition, there hasn't been a useful one since Alstott. Marcel Reese absolutely tears it up every time he is given a chance (again due to injuries always) but then the Raiders just send him back to blocking when one of their crummy HBs is semi-healthy again.
