Julian Edelman Concussion (1 Viewer)

Edelman suddenly popped up on the injury report with a concussion. Not good to hear, but he did practice partially today. Anyone have any more info on this?

We wont know until practice Thursday. If he practices he got the injury Sunday and is probably going through the contact part of the protocol. If he doesnt practice Thursday its most likely he was injured today in practice and is probably out Sunday.

Belichick injury report...
If he wanted to play games with the injury report with one of his most important offensive players, theres alot easier ways to go about it other than sending Edelman to an independent Neurologist every day of the week.

If hes listed with a concussion, hes seeing the Doc.

He should rest up for the post season...no reason to risk it

(going against him obviously this weekend)

Julian Edelman (concussion) is practicing again Thursday.
We have no word on if Edelman has merely been cleared for practice, or if he's been cleared for full contact. But given his presence each of the last two days, he's on track to suit up as a WR2 against the Jets Sunday.

I think you can make the argument that this is a problem.

The concussion wasn't mentioned until yesterday, but the Patriot werent in pads wednesday. Aside from some freak accident, Edelman seems to have been concussed during the Dolphins game. But he seemed fine and gave a postgame. Which in turn likely means the symptoms showed up some time after. Thats probably not good. If he just got his bell wrung and was under observation thats one thing, but to a day or two later start slurring his speech or forgetting things or having bad headaches is something else entirely.

Even assuming Edelman is cleared, he's on the concussion radar screen now. Championship weekend is a bad time to be one routine hit away from losing a WR.... or even just seeing his snaps trimmed as a precaution before the the playoffs.

That's some awful spin and speculation on his symptoms. He might have had a light headache, and BB decided to have him tested. Not all concussions are the same severity, but all go through the same protocol. If he had minor symptoms on Monday or Tuesday, he cleared the first protocol immediately to participate on Wed. Pats locked up a playoff spot, and their division. Do you really think he'd be on the field yesterday and today if he wasn't already medically cleared?

He does, however, have to pass one more test to be able to play. I'd worry about the snaps being trimmed, but he's been productive in several games with limited snaps. Not to mention, BB will not lose to the Jets.

He's 'on the field' in the same sense that I am on the field walking down the street. Theres no contact happening. My point is that a light headache a day or two after the game doesnt seem like the kind of thing a player would report. Now if it was something lingering after an initial observation after a hit, thats different. Maybe thats indeed what happened. But for him to pop up on the injury report days later with no indications that there was a problem at the time should raise some red flags. For Edelman to volunteer that he was having symptoms, I think you should conclude they were more than a mild hangover.

Do you get tackled walking down the street?

Not trying to bicker, but there's a lot of wild speculation in this angle. Fact is, he's listed on the report. Also a fact that he's participated in practice 2 days in a row. We don't know how much contact he took, but we do know he wasn't red-shirted. Now, if he doesn't get cleared to play, that's a different story. But Edelman has never been a concussion risk, nor is it an "aggrivatable" injury. Either you're cleared or you're not. Read up on the concussion protocol.

Seems like he's just well-educated on concussions, spoke up, and now is going through the process.

Welker and (What's his name? guy from the colts played there last year) have been his teammates and had more than their fair share.

Doc needs to clear him, but usually if they're practicing the doc's word is positive

Austin Collie?

pretty sure he'll play

"There's something wrong with me," Johnson, 34, told the Times in a story posted on its Web site Thursday night. "There's something wrong with my brain. And I know when it started."

The Boston Globe, which is owned by the Times, posted a similar story on its Web site.

Johnson, who played 10 years in the NFL, said he began to deteriorate in August 2002 with a concussion during an exhibition game against the New York Giants. He sustained another concussion four days later after Belichick prodded him to participate in a full-contact practice, even though he was supposed to be avoiding hits, Johnson said.

A concussion would be the worst thing in the world for Belicheck to embellish. Any player with a "public" concussion has to go through the protocol, so this is one case where there is not a "Belicheck-spin" to it.

Not too worried at this point. He had to go through protocol, and he has practiced 2 days in a row. I'd be willing to be he's cleared for full contact today.

Julian Edelman (concussion) was limited in practice again Friday and is listed as questionable for Week 16.
Due to the nature of his injury and the Patriots' unwillingness to reveal any injury-related info, Edelman's status is entirely unclear for Sunday's game against the Jets. The good news is Pats-Jets has a 1PM ET start, so we'll know Edelman's status early. Rob Gronkowski and Brandon LaFell could add a few targets if Edelman can't play, with Danny Amendola's role possibly increasing.

Since the Pats don't reveal any injury info, Edelman is likely on my bench during the finals. I'm sure I'll regret it, but I can't risk it. As long as Julio doesn't play, I can roll with Douglas.

I think the doctor's clearance is an automatic type press release and BB can't hide it. I haven't noticed any team hiding it during this concussion protocol and I believe the NFL wants/expects teams to be vocal about it since it was handled so poorly in years past.

I guess there could be a last minute filing of a doctor's report or somesuch, but...really figure we'll know if he's cleared.
