Who is Allen Hurns? (3 Viewers)

Did anyone see that ball he dropped? If he didn't drop that ball he would have had a huge stat line. He's gonna go on my IR I'll stash him. Bortles loves him.

Hopefully his injury isn't serious. If it is a sprained ankle then he could miss two weeks for a mild sprain or 4-6 weeks for a high sprain. I won't be dropping him in dynasty unless it is a season ending injury, but in redraft he is droppable if he misses more than 2 weeks. I hope it isn't too serious as that will enable the naysayers to claim he had no talent and the truth is we will won't likely know for a long time now.

This story suggests a sprained ankle: http://jacksonville.com/sports/football/jaguars/2014-09-14/story/jaguars-notes-allen-hurns-day-injury-added-insult

Any word on his injury? Like a lot of people, week 4 is my huge bye week. It'd be nice to hear that he'll be back.

Kerry Taylor - WR - Jaguars

Jaguars signed WR Kerry Taylor off their practice squad.

The Jaguars waived S Craig Loston in a corresponding move. Taylor will serve as insurance in case Cecil Shorts (hamstring) or Allen Hurns (ankle) suffer a setback.

Someone dropped him in my league. Tempted to pick him up but Id have to drop Davante Adams for him so think Im going to hold for now.

Hurns or Allen Robinson? Hurns only had 1 catch yikes.
Hurns TD was on some horrible tackling by Indy. I like Robinson, but I can envision a scenario where both have garbage time value (which should be often with this defense). Robinson fits the WR1 mold better so I'm going with him.

I thought it was Hurns showing some great strength in running. I guess you could blame the tackling...who's to say but bottom line is that he broke two tackles and caught a pass with three defenders around him, avoided or broke away from all of them to score.

very interesting to see how this develops. You have all your receivers getting healthy and have Shorts, Robinson, Lee, and Hurns... and Hurns continues to make plays, so don't brush him aside just yet.

They're close to the same size and so far Hurns has shown much more at the pro level. Any reason why you say Robinson fits the WR1 mold better?

Robinson: 3 games played, 12/154/0

Hurns: 3 games played 7/186/3

Much more at the pro level:

Hurns:

7 catches for 186 yards 3 TDs on 18 targets

Robinson:

12 catches for 154 yards 0 TDs on 19 targets

Considering that Robinson missed a fair amount of training camp, I'd say it's pretty early for both of them to be establishing one has shown "much more" than the other. Also Robinson is 15 pounds heavier, for what it's worth. Being under 2 bills isn't a death knell for fantasy success, but it's something to think about.

Also, Robinson started over Hurns this week for the first time.

robinson missed the preseason and was barely targeted in the game. hurns had the big first half and has been quiet since. robinson, in weeks 2 and 3, has 15 targets. the results? 11 receptions, 150 yards.

i don't have any idea about whether that kind of production will continue once Lee returns. however, if i was a Hurns owner, i would be pretty damn nervous.

Very true.

Hurns' targets have been 9-6-3.

Robinson's have been 3-6-10.

So, Robinson is clearly trending up, even though Hurns hit the big play for a score yesterday. Both should be good from this point forward, assuming Bortles plays. We know the Jags will constantly be playing from behind and throwing a lot.

The targets just tell us the story of who has been healthy and when IMO. Robinson wasn't healthy early. Hurns wasn't healthy recently. Hurns, aside from his terrible drop, has looked better in the games this far. Maybe that's because Robinson missed time in camp, maybe not. This is going to be a tough situation to read moving forward. Especially when Lee and Shorts are back in the fold.

Most importantly (for me) Bortles is in now. Full reset as far as I'm concerned - and the targets were still in Robinson's favor in the second half yesterday. One full game with Bortles starting, and I think we'll understand their roles.

I'm not sure how much of a dent Lee will make this year. Word is that he is struggling to learn the offense, and with Hurns and Robinson supposedly both knowing it already, and Shorts, the veteran, always solid, Lee might be stuck as the 4th WR all year. Granted, he was the higher draft pick, and they will want to get a return on their investment, but it's hard to sit down guys who are producing this early as rookie WRs like Hurns and Robinson are.

Whose do you guys like better Robinson or Hurns?
They both seem worth a gamble. I went with Hurns given what he's actually done on the field to this point. The team definitely went out of its way to put the ball in Robinson's hands this week. But Bortles loves Hurns. I think we won't have a verdict until we see a couple of games with Bortles starting.

Lee was the higher pick but both him and Robinson were 2nd round picks, so I wouldnt put much value into what the organization expects/wants (as Lee was touted as the better talent throughout his collegiate career and higher rated prospect).

As a Penn State fan, all I can say is I think the NFL undervalued Robinson going into the draft. He's not fast, but some would say speed is one of his negatives which I wouldnt agree with. Has great RAC ability and knows how to get open. As a college player, he reminded me of someone who at the pro level translated to Derrick Mason and Muhsin Muhammad. He's more similar in size to Muhammad but IMO closer to Mason with his skillset. Im not expecting him to have the longevity of those guys, and maybe that comparison would disappoint some as far as Robinson's upside, but I wouldnt think so.

How does Bortles love Hurns when Robinson had more targets?

Another busted coverage on Hurns in this game. Wide open for the easiest TD most NFL WRs will ever see (no one within 20 yards, he was practically fielding a punt), but he bobbles the ball, barely hangs on, and falls over short of the endzone and gets tackled as he tries to get up.

I love how open he always seems to be, but man I can't recall someone blowing more of those opportunities.

The mental mistakes are understandable for a rookie, but a rookie who gets that open is a rare thing.

Brandon Marshall circa 2011 as a Miami Dolphin. I watched him flat out drop 8 sure fire easy TD's.

Was insane.

Agreed. And on my dynasty team, if he turns into Marshall I'll be bragging for a decade.

I don't know about Marshall heights....but this kid is for real. A solid WR. Again....I was shocked he went un-drafted. 40 times are over analyzed to a fault by too many front offices. He has great football speed. A crisp and precise route runner. And I am a little surprised with his case of the dropsies....because he had hands of glue at UM.

He's pressing a bit. He'll get over it I believe.

Hurns has been the top fantasy WR in all 4 games for Jax this season. Seems he's just not going away.

60 yards receiving in the first half of Bortles' first start.
He's a top-10 WR in my "First Half Only" fantasy league.
He's a rookie whose points just assured me a win in a dynasty league where I have twelve players on a bye.I'm glad I didn't start Robinson instead.
Speak for yourself. Robinson secured my victory in my 50PPT (50 points per target) league. I would have lost if I'd started Hurns.

until the 2nd half.

Since the 1st quarter of week 1 he's had two big plays - the 63 yard TD week 3 and the 44 yard catch today.

Outside of those two plays he has 5 catches for 37 yards. I'm not taking away those big plays but he's still very flukish to me.
