Cool Ideas For a Trip With My 9yo Son (1 Viewer)

I will have about a week in late October with my son and I am looking for something cool to do with him while my wife is away with our daughter.

Anything theme park related is out.

One idea is going to look at Polar Bears in Churchill, Manitoba.

Anyone other ideas?

A really good bonding experience that he will never forget it is to have the chauffeur teach him to drive

In all seriousness, if you would have thought of this in May you could have taken him to the Derby with Pesci. File that nugget away for next year.

Take the helicopter out and fly lower over Africa with vials of Ebola vaccine hanging on a string. See how many people you can catch.

True fact: Joe Pesci hates the ponies, he's never been to the Derby. Said something about every time he went to the track they would try to #### him. So, he steadfastly refuses to ever set foot in Churchill Downs.

Clydsdale races?

Seriously, San Diego is an awesome family destination.

Vegas would be cool....well....it would be

When i was about that age my dad took me to the playboy club in new jersey. Unfortunstely i do not have any wild memories of the time but, maybe my dad does. That particular place has been sold a gew times over since then, but ...you get the idea.

My gb has been going to see polar bears every year for the last 10 or so years... all over the world- is crazy about it. The combination of travelling deep into the wild and seeing these rare, endangered and beautiful animals in their natural environment is something he finds life-changing (and the pictures back it up). The last time he went (somewhere in or above Norway), he met a 23 yo Russian chick who incredibly bonded with him over the bears and everything else- they just clicked. And then had tons of crazy sex you can only have with a young Russian chick. Get him a young Russian chick.

FBG has their Draft Dominator Camp up and running, don't they?

Would be a great learning experience for the both of you.

Just get him a user ID to FBG, and open a thread titled "My 9yo has some questions...can you guys answer them?"

He'll never be the same.

Caves Branch Adventure Company and Jungle Lodge - Belize - sleep in a treehouse, go cave tubing, climb waterfalls, the "black hole drop". Place is awesome and they're great with kids.

Or if you're really looking for an adventure, October is when the Bull Red Drum migrate and you'll never have a better time to catch one in the surf. Rent a 4WD pickup camper and take the ferry over to Portsmouth Island, NC. There are no roads on the 13-mile long island, you just drive/sleep on the beach. Be sure to bring everything you need. They only sell 2 things there, ice and diesel. :)

did hebrew his own beer too?

Space camp
:goodposting:

they have a family program there: http://www.spacecamp.com/space/family

also, they have other stuff to do at the museum - rock climbing wall, a ride or 2, etc.

if your son digs space/science, this would be a great trip.
I am definitely going to look at space camp closely. I think he'd love it.

One idea is a resort where he could learn scuba diving and go surfing and fishing. The issue is that since it's off season, I'm not sure there will be a lot of other children around.

Another is a Disney cruise. I've never been on any kind of cruise but there will certainly be kids and fun activities for him.

Doesn't he have school in late October?

Can't imagine that outside of school trips there would be a lot of kids around.

Churchhill is a hell hole. Unless you plan on flying in and out in a day or two, don't waste your time.

They have the last week of October off.
well ok then. first I've heard of that week being taken.

gotta say- space camp sounds pretty great. my BIL took his oldest there a few years' back- probably about the same age as yours. Loved it.

I also like the idea of an outdoor adventure thing (sea kayak tour or similar)- although, as you say, probably not many other kids. That said- a week doing that with your son would be pretty amazing life-long bonding experience IMO.

still think a 23yo russian broad is your best bet.

So theme parks are out, but tack on the added risk of listeria or norovirus and it's a-ok?

That Belize trip looks awesome. That's definitely on the list when the kids get a few years older.

Do that in Belize on the barrier reef there, the only reef better is the great barrier in Australia. And scuba is amazing, but snorkeling is also a blast and if he likes fish/ocean life he will love it.

I like the Polar Bear viewing idea, but hunting them would be better.

Or maybe find a desert island with some castaways and hunt a human. :o
